Just wondering for those of you in the beta, is there an option to use a controller for WoW or is keyboard the only option supported now. And can you change the keyboard configuration, I hate awsd movement I'd at leat like to use the number pad if I can't use my controller.

You can reconfigure all keys and/or map them to two separate keys. The movement defaults to WASD (QE strafe) and also the arrow keys.

As far as I know, there is no way to use a controller, but...do people actually use controllers any more on computers? I can't think of how long it's been since I retired my Gravis.

Actually I got the adapter to use my PS2 controller for FFXI, and I'm a little dissapointed I won't be able to use it for WoW. But that's alright as long as I can set the keyboard up my way I'll be fine.

As far as i know you are unable to use a controller, but, the buttons can be remapped.

My only gripe is the distance for the Tab key.

they have to be (in perspective) about 10-20 feet away from you. in FFXI chances are if you can see it, you can use the tab key to select anything on screen.

this one they have to be pretty close. and that is devistating, i use the mouse to select anything from a distance, and thats a pain to do.

EDIT Spelling issues

sweet, found the thread finally to answer my question about controller use. not what i wanted to hear, but oh well. i think this game will be great when i only have 1-2 hrs to play instead of ff. my question would be tho, i've never played a pc game b4, how tough is it to learn to play w/ keyboard and/or mouse for the pc challanged player? of course that would be me. thanks

Actually, the mouse interface is very well done. Having not touched my gami ng computer's mouse in a year because of FFXI, I must say Bliz did well. I'd gotten used to my Nostromo pad and keyboard for FFXI, the mouse interface on that game blew beyond belief. Anywho, give the mouse a try, I'd recommend remapping the middle click to toggle autorun ^^

MMOs are far easier to play with a kb and mouse than a controller. FFXI is known in MMO circles for having the worst UI in history (it worked fine for a console, but it didn't take advantage of the power of PCs). Its pretty simple and flexible. Movement is arrowkeys. Ability hotkeys are 1-0 along the top. Mouse selects stuff. F1-F5 autoselects party members. Tab cycles through nearby targets. If you don't like any of these keys, you can reasign it to another key. No tabbing through menus because you couldn't fit in enough macros. Don't like the on screen HUD? Write your own in XML, or check out the dozen or so fan made ones. All this and you don't need a separate keyboard to type. Try it out, if you don't absolutely love it within a week, there's a money back garuntee*

*Note: since you paid no money for beta, the money back is also $0

You do know why FFXI has a crappy UI for PCs right? Most people don't know/realize/remember till they read it that FFXI on PC is a port from a PS2 game. In japan FFXI is on PS2 only (as far as I know), and was made to be a console game. In NA we were supposed to get FFXI on PS2 only, or at least before PC, but sony kept ******* the HDD so we got the PC port first.

actually there might be a possibility u can use a controller you can try using a program called joy to key

JoyToKey English Version

About this software
This software is a keyboard emulator for joysticks.
It converts joystick input into keyboard input (and mouse input).

Use it when you want to control an application with joysticks that doesn't support joystick input. If you wish, you can control even Word, Excel, etc. with joysticks!

You can download this program at http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA016823/joytokey/english.html
