Is it worth playing if I plan to solo?Follow

I played for the free month and stopped, and then was invited back to WoW for 7 days. I find that a lot has changed in WoW but it is still very solo friendly, that's what got me thinking of EQ2. I know there is a lot to complete, especially Lore and Legend, I like those. But is it worth going into EQ2 to solo about 95 percent of the time?

My main was a wizard and since they can't heal themselves, will that be a problem? What are some things one can do solo? Also, how hard is it to find a group for an occasional dungeon? Thanks for the help in advance.

It is entirely possible to play EQ2 solo and love it! Wizard is one of the classes people seem to prefer for soloing, 'cause they have high DPS. Want to find a group? Talk in the world-based level channels! Join a guild!

There's LOTS to do: Solo Progression (EQ2)

EQ2 managed to support several different playstyles very well, I think you'd like it. (PS: I solo about 95% pf the time)

A couple years ago I left my guild and since that time (and up until a couple weeks ago) I soloed for 100% of my time in game. Before that I probably still soloed 75% of the time... I just joined a new guild (well, new to me... they've been around FOREVER!!!) and while we are all getting used to one another (and as I find people who want to group with me regularly and vice-versa) I am still playing solo more than half the time...

Draw your own conclusions!

I solo 99% of the time. I'm in a guild of soloers. We help each other out with crafting and suchlike, but generally solo unless someone needs help with something in particular. My zerker main is at level cap and has probably not grouped more than about 20 times ever.

If your main is a Wizard, you need to 'root & nuke'. You don't want the mob in spitting distance of you, so make sure your snare spells are up to scratch - adept quality or higher once you're above about level 30 (waste of money before that because you'll out-level them so quickly)

I see, thank you very much, and one more question, if you don't have an active subscription, do they delete the characters on your account or do they keep them around in case you resubscribe? I hope they keep them because I got the title for getting to 20 in 14 days and I put a lot of work into it, not to mention all of the Lore and Legend I did, thanks again.

No they do not delete, they have however recently gone thru some server merges, and inactive folks on one server had xx's added to their name if somebody more active on the other server with the same name merged onto the server.

Example: My name is Blakkmantis, it would have been changed to Blakkmantisxx.

They do give you a chance to rename your character tho if this has been done. Welcome back to EQ2. =)

One more odd thing I noticed, it says a recommended race for Swashbucklers is Arasai, but I thought they are evil and the Swashbuckler is good, so is it not a possible choice? I wanted to make one as an alternate and I was just curious, thanks.

Yeah, that's an impossible choice.

I take that back, it's not impossible.

If you were really that persistant about being, say, an Arasai Swashbuckler, you could create as an Arasai Brigand and at level 10 go through betrayal. Once you joined a good aligned city you could change your class to Swashbuckler, then you'd be an Arasai Swashbuckler.

Sorry about that. Those race-class recommendations are based on what the devs published as "packages" of racial traits when racials were redone. Arasai got the "Scout" package, lol.

To be honest, your race really doesn't affect your choice of class that much & vice versa. There are a few racial traits that may or may not be useful to particular classes, but not even slightly to the extent that you *have* to pick a particular one. Go with whichever race & class you fancy playing.

Frogloks get waterbreathing, that's a massive asset at certain points in the game that include underwater quests.

And if you make it a monk, you get a perfect killing machine!!!

Seriously, underwater breathing, invisibility, devastating fist,...

Great at soloing, although there are better classes if you really want to fight in tough instances on your own, there's only two heals (one spell, one ability through AA's).

No pressure! :D

So since druids & shamen all get waterbreathing spells and since woodworkers can make waterbreathing totems, does that make it redundant to make a druid, shaman or woodworker frog? Or barring any of those, you could always just buy a bunch of totems...

As noted above, I agree and don't see any racial trait (or the lack of it) being a game maker/breaker...

Can a paladin dual wield? I was planning on sword and shield but curious if I have the option of dual wielding? Thanks.

IRRC, zerkers are the only tanks who can dual wield. If so, that would limit pallys to either sword & board or 2 hander...

Or just keep Hadden's Fishbone Earring in your inventory :)

Guardians can dual wield now, too. I don't believe Paladins or Shadowknights can, however.

Sadly, no, Paladins and Shadowknights cannot dual wield. They do however gain combat arts that offer knockback when using a shield (or are shields still required for that?) Those knockbacks/stuns are not only useful in PvE but in Battlegrounds as well. Grrrr...hate those stuns.
They have 2 knockbacks actually, one using a shield and the either is a nice little kick.

I am amazed at the number of insects in the game that are able to knockback/stun. Reminds me of those EQ I snakes with the ability to KICK.

All classes can be soloable just some slower than others. I would say zerkers are awesome at soloing, they have good dps and can keep themselves healed even at lower tier. Inquisitor rock at soloing. Warlocks and wiz are good too.

Wow is solo friendly?
In Wow if you don't have guild friends, you get nothing, you have to go to instances to get decent drops, and you are looked down on and thrown out of groups if you don't have the gear. And you will probley be told at one time or another, they only play with pro's not the casual player.Wow players are a tough, bitter bunch. They don't wast time on Newbies or solo people.

Wow IS solo friendly, apparently your on a bad server, if it wasn't for the solo players there would be many raids that would never materialize!

I too did not find WOW solo friendly .. but EQ2 seems more solo friendly to me IMO

Just asking. Why would you play a game like EQ2 and solo most of the time? Why not just play Dragon Age or some other solo game? Eq2 (assuming it ever comes up again) is built around grouping and as such none of the end-game content is solo-able. You can probably only get to 50% maybe even less of the content soloing. Sure you can get to level 90, but you cant get any raid gear, or any of the stuff that really lets you kick-butt.

I understand the need to solo every once in a while, but it's grouping that really makes the game fun.

I'm a guild leader so I am biased.
