Returning playerFollow

#1 Feb 19 2011 at 8:17 PM Rating: Decent
Hey all,

It has been almost 2 years since playing this game and me and my friend were thinking of returning but wanted to know if this game still has a good population as well as how much has changed and is it for the better or worse?

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Quite a few servers have recently merged, so if you were on one of those, or return and play on one of those you will be quite happy with the surplus of players that are around now.

As far as whats changed, that is a long list of things both big and small. In general most players do like the changes, while some are not as happy. Neither of those should influence you or your friends decision though. My advice would be to try it with your friend, since the game is always more fun with a buddy.

One thing to keep in mind, especially if you plan on starting fresh with a new account, the latest expansion Destiny of Velious is set to release next Tuesday (Feb 22nd). Purchasing that expansion would include all previous packs and get you everything that there is in the game currently (Note: the expansion is for higher level players, but for the price of $40 getting everything is pretty nice).

If you have any more questions feel free to post and the community here will try it's best to answer them.

If you're not sure, there's now s special once-a-month "sub" that lets you play three days for $5. You could pop in a take a look around! It's a bonus XP weekend so it'd be a great time to pop in.

So i booted it up and started playing again but the one thing that I still can't get over now is the graphics. They seem out dated when compared to whats new out there....

For the entire month of Febuary the game has run like crap. First they did a "loader upgrade" that caused the game to crash every time you went to the New Halas map. Now that they supposedly fixed it the time to move from zone to zone is as high as 30-40 min virtually making the game unplayable. The rub is Sony has said they have a fix for it, for the past week, but won't take the time to fix it because they are too busy with the new expansion. This is the worst customer support and game performance that I have ever seen. As a lame attempt to placate the outraged customers they have made everything double experience but that is meaningless if you can't play the game, isn't it?

Depending on what level of quality you play on, that would affect the graphics quite a lot. I play on "High Quality" when not in a raid, or intense group. To be honest I have not seen any game that has comparable graphics (aside from maybe Crysis). I was playing the Rift beta and it looked exactly the same on equal settings. Maybe the spells were a bit more flashy, but in all honesty if you are playing a game for that reason then perhaps EQ2 isn't the best option for you (not trying to sound rude there, sorry if I did).

1- Turn on Alternate Models
2- Try running on a higher quality graphic setting.
3- Try out some of the newer zones, instead of old world content.

I'm sorry you are having these issues. Perhaps you could give us some more information, such as your system specs and what graphic detail you are running the game at. I have NEVER had a 30 minute load time even zoning into raid zones (thats with 23 other people loading in at the same time). If you are playing the 'streaming launcher' then that is your biggest issue right there. Try downloading the full game.

Also that really isnt very constructive to just say what you dont like about the game, without adding feedback as to what you think may be causing it.

first I've heard of any of this and personally, the game hasn't run any different this month than it ever has before (and by that I mean smoothly and efficiently).

1st post from this guy... troll much?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. The Freeport (Extended) server has been having zoning issues. Doesn't seem to be happening on Live servers.

Near as I can tell, this is still one of the most graphically beautiful games available.

Every time I come back from a break I am blown away by how pretty everything looks. Once you've seen the game world with everything maxed out you realize what a stunning achievement the graphics team has made here.

I am playing the extended on Freeport now along side FFXIV (if FFXIV is ever shut down I plan to make a full switch to paying for this game) and while graphically EQ2 is inferior, it is a much more enjoyable game with quests that actually seem to matter. Really, if FFXIV does not perk up soon (I have been in since day 1), then I will gladly take on this game. Until then, I will enjoy my casual solo friendly content nightly.

Ps. No offense to EQ2, I am just a die hard FF fan, literally ... we are dieing hard :)

Edit: I went Swashbuckler!!!
