I was trying out a defiler, but I read on a forum that they are horrible to solo, I mostly play solo, so is this true? Thanks.

I dont have high level experience with one, but as of level 30 my defiler seems to be soloing pretty well. You wont be smashing mobs down flat like some other classes, but you have a very high survival rate due to your wards and heals.

As a rule healers (clerics, shamans, druid) are not dps monsters...though with some TLC they can dish out decent damage while still keeping their group healed.

Would it be a good class for a new player? I tried a Necro and swashbuckler and I didn't really like them.

That really depends on the player. I don't see it being too difficult to get used, but each person is going to have their own preference, and may find one class easier than the next.

Like you said you didn't really like necro...I'm the exact opposite. Having played one in every Everquest title, I really enjoy the class and the mechanics of it.

The best advice I can give you is create more and more alts, and play them all until you find one that really seems to be your niche. You may need to get past level 20 with a class before you start getting an idea of what the rest of your leveling will be like.

I see, I know this is a hard question to answer but how hard is a wizard or Inquisitor?

Well Inquisitors are plate healers, and they have very low dps until later in game with more AA points. So as OldBlue would say...You dont kill the mobs, you wait for them to die out of boredom.

Wizards are, well Wizards. They blow stuff up, very quickly. However if what they are fighting gets a chance to hit them...they will probably die (as with any class that can only wear dresses :)

I see, I was trying out a paladin but they seemed kind of boring, I mean I want to level and all of that but more than anything I want a class I can use to explore, do decent dps, and maybe get into a group now and then. I am really interested in the card game and crafting although I am new to the game, any other suggestions?

I guess a melee fighter (besides Paladin). Monks, Brawlers, and Sk's are going to be the best 'survivable' dps classes for a new player. A monk/brawler should be able to easily join any group as dps..where Sk's are primarily tanks that also do dps.

The only issues with Sk's are: 1) most people think they are drastically over powered, and so they are very prone to SOE meddling to balance them, 2) most every server has more Sk's than it does mobs. So you may not get into a group unless its specifically to tank something, provided you are good at holding aggro.

I had a monk once, and they are a fun class, since they can dual wield they also have some nice dps.

Thank you, do the monks heal at all? Mainly I ask for solo purpose.

They get a self heal, not very strong, and usable every 3 minutes.

These is an excellent synopsis!

Lol sorry for all the questions, after playing WoW, EQ2 is very new to me in many respects. It seems a bit harder to solo. Although, just because WoW claims to be solo friendly, doesn't mean that the questlines and such have great solo support.

EQ2 is in general a more difficult game to play (than WoW) because WoW is like MMO lite. Everything in it is simplified so that anyone - gamer or non-gamer alike - can understand the concepts and succeed.

You won't find the kind of "pat hands" in EQ12 that you do in WoW - meaning that you won't find situations like ideal character builds - there are instead always many ways to skin any given cat...

Because of this, the game will often seem harder to play or understand. The trade off is that you will also find it more satisfying and rewarding. When you have built a character up to level cap from scratch you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that your character is unique and distinct - not a cookie cutter copy of every other character of that class on the server...

Remember that in EQ2, character classes are VERY WELL balanced so everything is a trade off... A class that can dish out massive damage will have a weakness somewhere else (like being required to wear tissue paper for armor). And a class that seems to be a "jack of all trades" will truly be a "master of none"!

This was done intentionally by the designers so that there would never be a single class that players would feel "required" to play in order to be the "best" and also so that there would not be a class that no one would want to play (or group with) because of a overall weakness.

If a class you are looking at (or experimenting with) doesn't seem to have a strong point, you just haven't found it yet!

Plate healers are a perfect example... while it's true that they don't hit well (making them seem weak as solo characters) they are extremely survivable and are also the strongest healers in the game and as such, are always in high demand for raids and groups.

On the other hand, tank hybrids like monks and zerkers tend to hit harder than other tanks - and may even hit harder than some DPS classes but as a trade off they will be less survivable and will really need a healer in more small group situations.

So Ive read what you said and I wanted some feedback on my final class choices in terms of solo, grouping, and anything else you may want to add if you please. defiler, paladin(although not so much), inquisitor, and templar. Thank you for being so patient with me. I played a paladin in WoW and loved that I could solo and tank well, but from what ive seen, a templar is closer than the EQ2 paladin, thank you again.

My friend, I personally like the paladin class in EQ2. You are right, it is NOTHING like the WoW paladin. EQ2's Paladin is closer to what a paladin should be, IMHO. It is a holy warrior! I can smack down ANYTHING, but I take longer than other tanks. I can also survive ALMOST anything solo, as I can also heal.

Now, MOST people think a paladin is a horrible tank. That's because they have never grouped with one who knows how to play the class. It is hard to get into a group as a paladin, because "common knowledge" says they cannot keep aggro. Well, if the healer keeps me alive, I can keep aggro. I can also peel a mob off of a wizard who is going all out dps and has full aggro in under 2 seconds. You see, it all depends on the AA specs you choose, as well as whether the player knows the class or now.

Now, that said, if you have played one and did not enjoy it, then it is not the class for you. I thoroughly enjoy the class. I also enjoy soloing, so not getting groups does not bother me much...

For me personally, I wouldn't trade my mystic for anything. I have about 5 other alts that I can't seem to level past 30-35. I always end up going back to my mystic. :P
