Najena and Unrest will be coming down around midnight PST tonight for their server merge. It is estimated to take 24 hours.

Throughout the day we'll update this thread with any updates we see posted by SOE regarding the merge. Based on last week's merge, progress updates were given about every 4 hours.

During the long downtime those from Najena and Unrest are more then welcome to join us in our IRC chat (#EQ2 channel). Head over to http://eq2.zam.com/wiki/IRC for instructions or you can use EQ2 Wire's java portal at http://eq2wire.com/zamchat/. You're also welcome to post here of course!

Quote:
The Najena and Unrest servers will be merging on Tuesday, December 14, 2010. Both servers will be offline for an estimated 24 hours, beginning at 12:00 am on Tuesday, December 14. The merged Unrest server is scheduled to come back online around 12:00 am on Wednesday, December 15.

Players on other servers can expect potential outages in world-wide chat channels, friends list, in-game mail and server chat channels while any merge is in progress.

Quote:
The following services will be affected for all EQII servers during this downtime and may experience interruptions:

* Cross-server chat
* Chat channels
* In-game mail
* Friends Lists

The official thread for this particular merge on the SOE forums is available here. The original announcement for the merge is here. The EQ2 Players announcement for the merge (including affected services information for other servers) is here.

For additional information on the merges please see our Server Mergers 2010 guide.

Now to add my personal experiences from the Blackburrow to Everfrost merge last week!

1. House item ownership was not wiped like many feared. That means that no-trade items you've placed in others' homes or guild halls (and vice versa) will retain their appropriate owner. So no need to fear or rush around mailing items back to people. Smiley: grin

2. Houses and guild halls did not have all of their items picked up, so no need to rush around saving layouts or anything.

3. The only housing oddity with items during the BB -> EF merge were salesman crates. Some characters had to re-place their crates.. in my case, all of my Everfrost characters had to replace theirs, but my two Blackburrow alts did not.

4. During the BB -> EF merge, there was originally an issue with names, but this was an oversight that was quickly resolved and the correct rule should be in place now for merges. For character names: In the case of a duplicate name, a player who has logged in in the last 60 days will keep the name. If both players of the same name either have or have not logged in in the past 60 days, the player with the most play time (/played) will keep the name. Account name and creation date have nothing to do with character names! Characters who lose their name will get an "X" at the end and a free /rename.

5. During the BB -> EF merge, there was originally an issue with some guild names, but this was a database error and it was also quickly resolved. This issue should not reoccur for any other merges. The rule for guild names: Whichever guild was created first keeps the name. Activity has nothing to do with it. Guilds who lose their name will get an "X" at the end and a free guild rename.

6. Another small issue which also hit other servers was the mail for the Frostfell Fanatic quest starter. This disappeared from some characters' mail boxes. They remailed this mail today and the issue is not expected to occur again, and may not have been connected to the merge.

7. Server heritage titles will take a few days to process. If you were on a server that gets one of these titles it should appear in your overflow when granted.

8. Many players could not enter their guild hall through the Magic Door to Guild Hall nor with the Call to Guild Hall spell. To counter this, one player had to enter the guild hall through its normal entrance, then the issue did not reoccur. It's unknown whether or not it's expected to happen again.

A small update from Rothgar about 2 1/2 hours ago (sorry, just woke up!):

Rothgar wrote:
Two hours down, everything is on schedule and no issues.

Najena/Unrest people that are peeping in on here today, see the OP for instructions on how to join us in IRC chat! Smiley: grin (it's much better than that silly "real life" thing!)

I got my title on two characters so far. But when you examine the item, nothing happens. I know they're looking into that but there's a workaround now. Put the piece of paper in a broker slot, then remove it. Voila - heritage title!

Ahh very good to know.. my two BB alts actually haven't gotten theirs still. :)

The merge is about 8 hours in now and there's been no further updates yet from SOE. I'm guessing they'll give another one soon though.

IRC chat is hopping quite a bit now, come join us! http://eq2.zam.com/wiki/IRC

Rothgar posted an update around 9:15am PST:

Rothgar wrote:
The merge process is moving along and still on schedule. Nothing interesting to report, so I guess that's good.

The chat system has been brought down as you've probably noticed. This is because we are moving all universal chat data for Najena characters to the new server, Unrest. As soon as this process is complete, we'll bring chat back up for everyone.

Another update was posted around 11:30am PST:

Rothgar wrote:
The merge is still progressing very well. We are hoping to bring chat back online around 1pm PST. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for bringing Unrest up earlier than anticipated.

Server merge titles will be granted after the next hotfix. We found an issue with the auto-consume code that was causing players to not receive the title. If you're reading this and were part of the Butcherblock [Blackburrow] merge, and already have the title item in your inventory, this item will convert into the title after the next hotfix.

A 1:45pm PST update:

Rothgar wrote:
The merge process is still going very well. The chat merge is complete but we are running one more maintenance script while it is down. This script should recover mail that was orphaned after the Everfrost/Blackburrow merge. As soon as this is done, we will bring chat back up.

Rothgar announced the start times and dates for the remaining U.S. merges. Euro servers will be announced after January 1st.

Rothgar wrote:
Tonight will complete the second merge of U.S. servers leaving us with 4 remaining merges to perform (8 servers). During the next two merge windows we will be performing two merges at a time.

Our current schedule is as follows:

Wednesday Dec. 15th
Mistmoore -> Permafrost (10:00pm PST)
Kithicor -> Butcherblock (11:59pm PST)

Sunday Dec. 19th
Befallen -> Oasis (10:00pm PST)
Nektulos -> Guk (11:59pm PST)

The schedule for the remaining non-U.S. servers will be announced after Jan 1st. We understand that the extra downtime during this process is an inconvenience and we appreciate your patience as we work through it. We have some fun promotions coming up in December so keep your ears open for announcements.

Still keeping an eye out for any additional info on the Najena->Unrest merge. It seems at this point that no news is good news. Smiley: grin

I'm not updating everywhere like Cyliena did :) Watch Server Mergers 2010 (EQ2) for updates.

Okay, one post. Rothgar hopes about a half hour from now.

Known side effects of these merges:

Problem: All of your characters show as "Offline" and you know that the server is up. Another variation of this is that only 4 of your characters display.
Solution: "Try deleting your cache or logincache directory. If that doesn't help, try making a new character on [your server]. You can delete it later, but that should force a new fetch of your characters if clearing your directories didn't work." - posted by Rothgar

Problem: Unable to enter their guild hall through the Magic Door to Guild Hall nor with the Call to Guild Hall spell.
Solution: One player needs to enter the guild hall through its normal entrance; after this then the issue should not reoccur.

Found a bug last night too (/bugged it already)...

I went to deposit status into guildhall escrow and it did not update my previous constributions....instead, it created a second chracter with the same name and began a new total :D Both totals were shown for the 2 "Filmore's" in the deposit history list.
