SOE has announced Velious Winter Rewards, where players can quality for six great items over three months. While four of the rewards are being kept under wraps, the February rewards are an Ice Wolf Mount and the "New Freeblood Vampire Race".

EQ2 Live and EQ2X Gold and Platinum accounts in good standing on December 14, 2010 will qualify for the first two items. Meeting the same qualifications on January 17, 2011 will earn you the second set of rewards. The final set of rewards will be awarded to players who met the December and January requirements and order the Destiny of Velious expansion pack by December 31, 2011.

Read more about this promotion here!

Translation: If your account is paid up and in good standing on the dates, and you buy and activate the expansion, you get cool free stuff!

Anybody else think it's sort of wierd SOE would announce this without even knowing what other rewards they are going to offer over the course of these next 3 months? Not too interested in the wolf mount they have announced, the vampire race might be interesting, but only if they aren't the ***** looking ones we have had appearance items to look like. What I'm wondering is, are they going to rework vampires like they have the goblins in the game?

All in all this could be sort of cool. Thanks Sony!

Oh, I'm sure they *know* what the other rewards are, they just aren't telling us. Smiley: nod Over on the SOE forums they have promised some more details next week.

Ive said it before and I will say it again... it's "Hetero", because a gay design team would do a fantastic job. Please don't call things gay or ***** unless you are coming out of the closet.

Well, if you wanna be technical.. Hehe. Gay originally meant happy. And dictionary.com defines '*****' as "strange or odd from a conventional viewpoint; unusually different". So.. um. There! :P

Of course they know! But if they make them all Mystery Gifts, then unveil the Vampires in 3 months, there will be this huge outcry of "Well, I *WOULD* have subscribed if I'd only known there was a free vampire!!!"

Oh, Kindergartners are more mature than that. Right about 2nd grade is when everything becomes a fart joke...

OK, so if we have to have bought and registered the expansion before 12/31, where do we buy it from? It is a pre-order thing? Or is the game expansion actually going to be available by then? If it's a pre-order (or even if it's not) do we have to purchase it directly through them? And if it is not released yet, how are we to activate it?

Sorry, but I thought the expansion was not due out till February?... I got the email today also, and was a bit confused by it all...

WHEN: The scheduled release date for EverQuest II: Destiny of Velious is February 8, 2011

HOW: Tiffany "Amnerys" Spence (of SOE) says, "you do not have to have pre-ordered the expansion before launch. You only have to meet the stated qualifiers (active subscription in good standing on the stated dates) and purchase the expansion before the end of 2011...not the end of 2010."

It seems to me that you can choose to buy whichever version you prefer... Digital download direct from SOE or from someone like Steam or DD direct. Or the box from any store you choose. They seem to be tying the reward to activation not purchase.

I'm also guessing this means that if you wait until after launch to purchase the Xpac you will still get the reward (as long as you met the other two qualifications).

I think this is an attempt to finally quash the complaints from players who purchase the "wrong" version of the game (digital DL -vs- basic box -vs- deluxe box) and then cry when they don't get the reward(s) they felt entitled to. It seems like SOE is saying "here is the reward for buying the expansion, qualify and it's yours!"

Well, there has been a release in the past for which only the US players qualified for the reward. It's nice of SOE to try and level the playing field.

Good point! If they tie the reward to an in-game pay out instead of linking it to the package they can issue it to everyone...

Yeah, I think that's what they're doing here. The SF release was a fiasco so hopefully they learned.

You have to buy it before the end of NEXT year, not this year. December 2011, not 2010. So no, you don't have to pre-order.

It's too bad the most innocent remark can get such a nasty response, especially on the internet. I was trying to be careful when I made my above "*****" remark about the way the Vampires in EQ2 appear to seem. And more directly the "male" Vampires. It's been pretty much an accepted feeling among most all EQ2 players over the years the male vamps don't seem too manly. I was not meaning any ill remark in my statement, just making a remark about my opinion, and opinions of most others who play the game, the male vamps could be changed a bit, so they don't look so fem. Not that anything is wrong with that, just making as I said an opinion, and voicing my hopes the playable race would give us more options, so we could make our toons look differently. I imagine they will be.

I sort of hope this discussion about the use of my previous wording on this subject ends with this. I consider this sort of stuff just ridiculous, and a bit vile to be honest. I am somewhat disappointed this particular site would partake in such talk. As I've always found this site to be so helpful, and friendly in the past. Surely one should be able to just innocently voice their own opinion, and not be subject to slams and jabs, and name calling.

Thanks.

I'm sorry that you feel my remark was 'vile'...I assure you it could have been worse. Instead of trying to defend your word choices though, perhaps you could have just realized that the words themselves were not ones you should have used, and that they were not fit for a public forum.

If you still feel that I owe you more of an apology, please wait by your mailbox.

Back on topic: I've never considered the current Vamp models to be feminine, at least not compared to most vampire lore that I have grown up with. Vampires are generally supposed to be very alluring and captivating. Lestat, Armand, even Dracula, all wore elegant clothes if you could look past the blood stains on them.

Nope, most of the dates are 2010 but the fine print at the end of the EQ2Players article for the expansion activation always said 2011. :)
