Only 250 AAs?Follow

#1 Nov 02 2010 at 3:33 AM Rating: Decent
I am curious as to why they felt it necessary to limit toons to 250 AAs. I am an original EQ player and I loved in the increase in power that AAs gave in that version.

So after a toon hits lvl 80, has 250 AAs, what more is there to do with that toon in game? Is there any other way to increase its power and abilities after that?

This might be a typo, but the level cap is 90.

I know a whole bunch of lvl 90 people that haven't reached 250 AA's yet. After about 200 or so, the rate at which you get AA exp really seems to slow down. My main has only 202 now, but mostly that's because I don't raid or get a chance to group much. But even a lot of the folks in my guild that do raid and group a lot still aren't at 250.

I can't remember how fast it went in EQ1 (haven't played since EQ2 came out), but I've read that EQ2 is much slower when gaining AA. So if you're coming at this from the perspective of EQ1, yeah 250 might not seem like enough. But I don't think you're going to hit that cap in just a few hours of playing.

Then when Velious comes out, we're getting more AA. You should always have a way to advance your character.

The major difference is in the AA choices, which in EQ1 you HAD to get GROUP/RAID AA...choices that EVERYONE got. The group leader had to have target of target in EQ1...that comes standard in EQ2 without AA.

There are very few AA that every class has access to. These are the 'general' AA in the Sundered Frontier line (harvesting, mana pool, food duration, etc). Instead all the AA tabs are class/subclass specific. So there really isn't a need to have 1500 AA. I'm sure OBD or someone will give you a more detailed breakdown.

But like Nadenu said, once you get over 200 AA it does seem to take a lot longer to get those last 50. My main hit the 250 cap a few months after the last expansion was out..being a solo player who groups every now and then (and raids even farther in-between that). Once you reach the cap you will find that you won't need to, or even want, to have every thing filled up. As you grow you will no doubt change it many times around until you find a setup that works well with your playstyle and class, but once you do you should notice that 250 is a very good amount to play with.

That, and EQ has been doing AA since before EQ2 launched - they've just had longer to build them up!

So then based on what I have been told in this thread that AAxp gain is not constant like it was in EQ but graduated based on the number of AAs you have. In other words, your first AA point takes less xp than the 200th AA point? Is this a fair assumption?

If so, that is a significant difference from EQ.

I am also wondering if the enhancements you get cause a more noticeable difference in the character's ability than they did in EQ?

Yes, AA is gained like regular adventure or crafting experience. So if your first one takes 10 points to get, AA #2 takes 15, #3 takes 26, etc. (All numbers pulled out of my butt, haha).
