Hey!

From everything I've heard, you cannot use a game card to buy a gold membership. However, you should be able to use Station Cash for it. If there's a retailer around you that sells Station Cash cards (they are Free Realms branded but work universally for any SOE games that use SC) pick it up and give it a go! Smiley: smile

Yup, that. Smiley: smile

EQ2X is the free-to-play version of EQ2. It also has more RMT type items in its Marketplace. Basically, gold membership is akin to the regular $14.99/month membership from the normal servers, but with some more restrictions than normal. For example, a gold member on EQ2X only has access to 4 character races and must purchase the rest whereas there are no such restrictions on the normal subscription servers.

Hope that made some sense because I haven't drank my morning coffee yet! Smiley: lol

That was a great plug for EQ2 Live but in defense of EQ2x, word around the office is Live is full of endgame players only and if you want people to level up with you should play EQ2x.

Note I'm awesomely thrilled people are replying to my thread, thank you all. Although you are the only ones saying word up on this subject so I'm despritely seeking a second opion. My original question better worded is this: CAN I BUY A GOLD ACCOUNT ON EVERQUEST 2 EXTENDED WITH A GAME CARD AND/OR SC PNTS? And if I cannot buy gold with a game card, why the blip not???

*I'm old enough to come from the era that all caps meant emphasis, not screaming. But heck, you wanna believe I"m screaming, your hang up.

We haven't any answers different from the EQ2X forums, sorry.

With a Game Card: No, it appears not. Why the blip not? I haven't seen a satisfactory answer to that, but my hypothesis is" different revenue stream, and they aren't hooked together.
With SC: Absolutely, check the marketplace online. I'm wrong on this one.

Em-phasis is okay with me. Smiley: wink

Looking into this some more, the last quote I can find from Smokejumper on 10/4 states that "Planning to do so. Not just yet. Still one more department to check in with." regarding use to game cards.

I really have no idea why, that would have to be a question for SOE. I wish I had a solution for you but at this point I would suggest posting on this thread on SOE's EQ2X forums and adding your voice to the others that want to be able to pay with game cards.

edit: Just double checked in game and it appears that Station Cash is in the same boat as game cards. Again, let SOE hear your voice and hopefully they'll do something about it!

Yes, I've had an ongoing thread on EQ2x official forums concerning this issue.

Not to beat a dead horse to undeath, but let me come at this from another angle. Will the game card work to give me a fully functinal account on EQ2Live? If so I will dish Extended and join Live.

Where do I download Live? I don't want to accidently download Extended again (and I googled but could not find the exact download for Live - looks like Sony is pushing Extended like maybe they want to some day get rid of Live???).

Yes, game cards do work on Live.

There's a streaming client you can use to download it, but personally I prefer the Station Launcher: http://launcher.station.sony.com/

It will take longer to download because it grabs the entire game, though you can copy over any files from your EQ2X directory to the EQ2 one to save time. EQ2X and EQ2 are the same game with the same content, it's just that EQ2X has a different subscription model, so copying the files over won't hurt anything. Smiley: smile You can go into your account management for EQ2 and add on a game card through there.

I see EQ2Live for sale at Best Buy. Does that mean I have to buy EQ2Live in the box ($20) in addition to paying for a subscription ($15)? Do I have to buy the box even if I have downloaded EQ2Live already via the 14-day free trail?

If I do have to pay for EQ2Live a preliminary box fee besides the subscription fee, does that mean EQ2x is truly free in the sense that there is no inicial box fee?

If I do not pay for EQ2Live's box then what is the box at Best Buy about (there were two I figured at least one of them was some kind of expansion pack)?

To get the entire game on either EQ2Live or EQ2X you'll have to buy the game at some point. You'll be capped at level 80 and missing some content until you do. It's probably not necessary to have it as you start out.

Live: You can get all content through Rise of Kunark (two expansions back) free through the Recruit a Friend program.

Extended: All content through The Shadow Odyssey (one expansion back) free.

The box content is also available through the Station Store, but if you lurk you'll see people post that it's on sale here and there. Recently Sentinel's Fate was on sale for less than $10 at Amazon.

But yes, it's set up so that if you want 100% of the game content, you'll eventually have to buy something.

What a concept! Even F2P doesn't mean FREE...it just means "go ahead and pay us incrementally while you decide if you wanna stay here or not and when you're ready you can pay to play like everybody else"!!!

Seriously, EQ2 is one of the best games available in the MMO business (if not the best) and with seven years of research & development and implementation behind them, SOE has every right to charge for the use of the pieces...
