General Armor hierarchy QuestionFollow

#1 Aug 25 2010 at 2:35 PM Rating: Decent
So I have been reading several of the forums and I am trying to get a sense of the Hierarchy of the Armor in the near end and end game. This is in the most general sense so any help would be appreciated.

So in general would this order be generaly true from best to worst?

T4 Shard
SF Mark Armor
T3 Shard
Legendary Vellious (while in Vellious)
Battleground level 90
Battleground level 80
Group instence drops level 80
T2 Shard
Master crafted level 90
T1 Shard
Kunark faction
Master crafted level 80

Is the order correct ? Would you add any significant categories ? Adorned ?

Would love to get a solid handle on this. Again only in the most general sence. Obviously PvE, Pvp, Solo, Group, and Raid might influence this.

Thanks for you help

I'd say that's in the ballpark.

Thanks for the note. OK so will work my way up to the Battleground gear while continuing to work the T2 Shard gear. I do have a group but we do not meet up that often. Raiding seems so problimatic but would love to give it a try.

Ok so now that we are in a new expac. with all of the changes to Crit mit, where does the Armor from Vellious fit in? Or rather how does the order stack up in the vellious zones. For us non raider who are likely to be wearing T1 or T2 shard or maybe Battleground gear. What should we wear in Vellious ?

Really going to need Crit Mit, So take off our Battleground Armor put on our shard Armor ?

The quest reward armour I was getting was better than the mastercrafted set I was wearing.

So is it worth all the effort harvesting rares for a mastercrafted set? No. My armourer is now pretty much redundant. The quest rewards have killed off any M/C market, just like the researcher has killed off the spell market to a certain extent. Move along now, no profit to see here.

At least there is a new crafting HQ, and I suppose the guild hall status rent still needs paying...

The Velious rewards are better than Mastercrafted, yes. You also can't do those quests until you've levle 85-86, so Mastercrafted is stilla good step-up. My main is level 90, and I was still wearing some MC pieces when I stepped into Velious.

The new rewards also seem to improve on the T1 shard armour. Hopefully so cause my first encounters with the local mobs indicated that they are very tough. I don't know if it's normal or not, but I ended up in the yellow against a blue non hard mob with one blue three arrow down gnoll fighting against me.

I also died against a blue turtle, but that's mostly because I didn't take that much notice of the 800 damage I got from each hit against that turtle. Not a good thing to overlook.

Predicting the death of crafting with rares may be a bit premature... first of all, as far as armor goes, the MC makes a great place holder and can be used at lvl 82 where as Calthine noted, the new quested items need at least lvl 85 or 86 to obtain (so if nothing else you have something viable to wear while you quest for the new stuff!)

And regarding spell upgrades, can't you only upgrade each spell once? My understanding was that you could go from whatever level your (purchased or dropped) spell was to one step higher. So if you wanna go master, you're still gonna need to buy or make spells that take a rare...

Sadly for most crafters, all tiers of spells can be researched now. Not so sad for classes that have that one strange spell they get maybe only 3 of (or in some cases one). I was leveling a sage just for that reason, to get all the ancient teachings done because they seem to never be crafted and sitting on the broker (I'm too lazy to spam the world chat for a sage to make them also).

I would definetely not give up on crafting still hugely useful and helpful. If you have use the reasercher at high levels you do not want to go from Apprentice to Master via the reasearcher will take forever. I always try to aquire the Master crafted experts then reaserch to Master.

Back on topic:

So I am sensing that the concensus on Armor in Vellious is use the quest reward stuff. Seems like the Critmit on it and Crit chance puts in on par with T3 raid gear even if it is much lower on regular mitigation.

Also seems that now T1 and T2 shard armor is just a waste of time. For a non raider you are better served just leveling past it all in Master Crafted at each tier. If you want to do the harder instances in the 70's and 80's then the BG gear is still the solo players best bet untill you get to Vellious. Then just switch out to the Legendary Vellius stuff as you get it.

Don't get me wrong, I love crafting. It's the main reason I chose to get the Velious expansion, rather than jump ship to Risk (which is rather good) - the crafting is rubbish. The thought of a crafting-based HQ was too much to resist...

I suppose there are new recipes based on raid rewards, but my guild is not a raiding guild & I don't go touting for work unless a guildie requests.
