Coming back to EQ2Follow

#1 Jun 01 2010 at 9:05 AM Rating: Decent
Hello,

I played EQ2 when it was first released. But, only, made it to level 22 as a dark elf warlock. This was due to bad soloing. I am currently downloading the game, and am starting new as I like the server where you can buy things from sony. Any thing change for soloing? Anything i should know about? I noticed the druid rings have returned, are the sprires returning too?

The latest changes I can't say much of, but soloing is a valid option in the game now. Just about everyone can get from 1 to 90 on their own, ofcourse you have to accept that there is content you will not see or only greyed out if you do not group, that's only natural. And things slow down a bit at some levels, although SOE tried to remedy that too.

EQII from the release and the EQII today are almost completely different, no more starting on one island, no more doing quests to get your class at 20, a lot of ways to travel (boats, spires, rings, bells, spells, ...), huge amounts of quests and zones.

With the latest GU, there's a new beginner's zone, might be a good idea to start at Halas, you should find a lot of people there checking everything out.

And welcome back!

Yeah, the game between launch and now has undergone a lot of changes - almost all for the better IMO. For example, you can get up to level 20 in a couple hours now, remember how long it used to take? Crafting has been simplified - no subcombines! Travel got a total overhaul recently, so yes, the Spires are integrated and there's a new World Bell system too.

Play it like an all-new game, you'll have a blast.

Huge changes for soloing. All classes can solo effectively now, at least for leveling purposes. You'll still need a group to finish some quests and to see most dungeons all the way through, at level anyway.

Travel has just recently been streamlined to be more WoW-like. You just call up a map and click your destination. You don't need to collect the blessed shrubs to use the druid rings anymore, etc. etc.

I'm not sure I'm fully on board with all the travel changes, but it is much easier. I'll give it that.

Edit: changed "most quests" to "some quests". Really just optional heroic quests for the most part.
