I don't know if anyone else saw this, but a few days ago the patch notes for the upcoming update were put on the test realm forum. They're ... amazing! As a new player, I can't wait for the travel update. That will be so awesome.

I know! I'm saving my last available new character slot for the new starting area.

Shiny! *hop*

I already have one char with a fully stuffed house impatiently awaiting her move, and my namesake might follow suit. :) I truly suggest hopping onto Test if you're interested in checking out the housing, it's beautiful!

I checked out the Halas housing on the forums the other day. I agree, they look amazing! HOWEVER, tile floors in a landscape covered in snow all year long, with no central heat... MY FEET ARE GONNA FREEZE! What were they thinking?!?!?!?! Smiley: yikes

They're thinking you have already purchased plenty of rugs and will bring them from your old house!

Eh, they need to revamp the travel revamp, IMO. A lot of it doesn't make any sense. But there will be lots of changes to this stuff before it hits lives. Lots of little bugs in the new area.

So there's new updates to the GU56 notes that say that freeport and qeynos are being disabled as starting cities. Needless to say, the forums erupted. Anyway, if this change goes through, what can we do until then to ensure that we get as many of the soon-to-be lost quests done as possible? Anyone know what sorts of quests this entails? I've never been to either of these cities, so I don't know. I'm evil, so probably freeport is the only quests I could do.

As far as I'm aware, this is only affecting the starting islands at this point, which you can only go to when you create a char that starts in Freeport and Qeynos. You can run through the main parts and suburbs of the cities and you should be able to pick up quests (not sure about Qeynos quests for an evil toon though), but I don't believe those quests are being removed.

Oh, that's okay then. The starting islands are kind of vestigial.

Remember when you HAD to do those? And there were quests on the boats, as well?

Yup! I started playing when there was still the boat ordeal and choosing your subclass and class. Went away for a couple of years (but came back for a month or so every once in a blue moon) and the entire game had changed. :)

I still prefer the starting islands--nice source of t1 rares and transmute fodder, as well as an easy place to get E-Day and NotD candies. :)

I understand why they're taking the islands away. From a lore standpoint, they don't make much sense anymore. I mean, 5 years later and people are *still* washing up on this island??

I will miss them, though.

You're too late for some though, they did a revamp a while back, I think when Faydwer came online, and got rid of a couple back then. I believe they split the islands then too, I think anyway as it's been awhile, at the very beginning there was only one island and you chose between Freeport or Qeynos when you left it. Ofcourse, that was also the time of not getting your final class before you hit 20. A good thing they changed that though.

Any eta on that GU56? I'm on hiatus till then, at the very least, I got a bit disappointed with the latest expansion to be quite honest.

I'll miss the island(s) too. (but then I already miss the original beginning to the game where you start out on the boat that delivers you to the island) It was always a nice quiet way to begin the game. You knew there were no level capped characters running around to get in your way! No mounts, no housing... just a nice clean 'sheltered' environment in which to learn the basic mechanics of the game.

Oh man, and I just started farming Queen's with a lowbie for transmuting gear. Better get on it before they're gone!

Hopefully there will be similar in the new incarnation, but I'll have to delete that lowbie to start another.
