Coming back to eq2, how have classes changed?Follow

#1 Jan 11 2010 at 3:14 AM Rating: Decent
Hey Everyone,

I know there are tons of these threads around but none of them seem to be quite up to date. I stopped playing eq2 about two years ago because of school but now i have more time and im looking to get back into it.

Was wondering what has changed with classes? just from browsing a bit i gather that rangers are rather upset at being underpowered, and most think birg and shadowknights are OP at the moment.

If someone would be willing to give me a quick rundown on how the game has changed in the last two years and what the major class changes have been i would really appreciate it.

I assume the new expansion will change things too, any speculation so far on how it will affect classes? Thanks!

All I've heard about the new expansion so far vis-a-vis classes is that shadow knights are getting nerfed. No one seems to know how badly, though.

I've only been back for about six months or so. I won't be much help for the rest of your questions.

Just looking for a basic explanation of where most classes stand at this point. any of them broken? any considered wildly OP? just a brief description of your opinion on each would be really great. Thanks!

It's all rumor to me, since my characters are all pretty low level (highest is a 57 dirge).

What I'm hearing: paladins struggle to tank, in comparison with SKs. Berserkers are great for tanking and do good dps. I don't know how bruisers and monks stack up with regards to tanking, but for melee dps they seem pretty solid.

Assassins are (apparently) the highest melee dps, brigands have good AOE and swashbucklers good buffs? Is that right? I may have mixed up brigs and swashes since I don't play either.

Necromancers are very, very easy to play; dunno if that's just traditional or what. Conjurers seem to struggle a little more, but well geared and well played they should hold their own. Wizards are mad dps, of course.

I see people calling for bards and illusionists/coercers pretty frequently.

Templars are, as one would expect, the premier healers. I don't know how healing classes stack up - guess I'll find out when my warden hits 80.

sweet thanks Samira,

after reading around a bit more im considering starting a pally, monk, fury, wizard, or conj when i come back, which may not be till after the expansion is released. Anything i should be aware of with these classes? any rumors of changes after expansion release? I guess their going to alter all classes a little right?

oh I should also mention that ill be starting from scratch with 2 friends, so fun factor from 1-80, well be taking it pretty slow, is a big consideration. Thanks for all the helpful responses so far!

they have beta testers on the expansion right now that could rank my class choices in terms of how well their going to be treated after its out?

That'd be a violation of the NDA, right now.

Also remember - no matter what they may change about the classes in the expansion, the very next update might change them again.

Bottom line: play what you like.

I deff will play what i like, just wanted to make sure none of the classes i was interested in playing (pally, monk, fury, wizard, or conj) were seriously broken, or if they had gotten any major boosts since ive been gone that might make them more interesting to play.

I honestly can't think of any class that's considered "seriously broken". But I don't usually pay attention to the general chat and posts on the official forums because it's almost always more whining and usually not very productive.

Except that rangers really are always underpowered!

<3 rangers, some of the most fun people around.
