Why am I forced to be in a guild - Tips for being a solo QFollow

#1 Jun 22 2009 at 8:17 AM Rating: Decent
Well I just wanting to say first that I am autistic and sometimes understanding whats being said I miss things bit. So if my replies seem a bit off, I am sorry also :) You people are nicer than the official forums.

I was just wondering because I have only begun playing this year, why Everquest has set up everything so that you have to be in a guild? I left my guild not to long ago, because someone was making me unhappy and I wanted to be happy. So I have been playing on my own. I am only a level 54 wizard but I have 1 million status point and 85 achievement points. I decided I like trying to do everything I can because I level, not for the points but because it is fun stories and funny.

Teleporting back to Qeynos.

I am lucky I am a wizard, the first thing I noticed was without a guild call, I could not teleport easily. But I found I can use Antonica Translocate, and using a portal and ending up at North Qeynos gate :) (thats a good trick to remembr if your a Wizard anda ll your calls are down or you need to take your entire group back to Qeynos and some of them don't have a guild call, you can use the Group one and then the depart group portal.

Housing

The next thing I realized is I can't upgrade my house. For some reason and I don't know why, you need to be in a guild to buy a big house. Even though a hosue has nothing to do with a guild. Does sony decide that everyone not in a guild is a bad player and not successful?

A good tip for having a house solo, if your on the Qeynos side is to get the one right infront of the broker and have your call of qeynos there. Then your call will take you straight to a broker, your player house and! If your a tailor like me, theres a loom RIGHT above the stairs of the broker... so I have figured out how to get to a loom/broker/my house rather easily.

Mounts

Then I realized I can't get good mounts, but luckily I found that since the Lavastorm change you can quest to get the flaming Rhino (sootfoot spikey Lava Cow) (I think the carpet to but I do not have it) It took a lot of work but it looks neat and is better than anything else you can get solo, apart from that pretty Unicorn but getting 40,000 faction is hard with Far Seas Supply Division. and since last update theres that new rhino I am not sure of the name from the questline but you need to be around level 70 for that I was told?

(I nearly have my unicorn to, 6 more days and I will have the right faction for my Unicorn, I already have enough coins!!! I am excited, I have never seen any other first time players at level 50 with the unicorn on my server, I think everyones in a mad rush to reach 80 and not enjoy the game sometimes.)

Travelling...

This is the hardest thing I noticed, if you get recruited to join a guild straight away around the starting area as many do, you may never know how to travel... the bells are located in Qeynos Harbor you buy a ticket from the npc there and use the Sea Journey? bell, its labled something like that I will edit that when I go in. It does cost gold though. It took me a bit to figure it out. Alternatively you can use a combination of bells to get places. I do that a bit, which is where I figured a neat trick out.

If your solo this is going to be one of your best friends ever, goto the Island of Mara and buy the Return to Mara teleport orb from the faction merchant for 6gold. This orb can only have one charge you can only have one at a time so everytime you use it, remember to buy another. It will teleport you right to the Island of Mara, this is not just useful for the far seas quests but also those harvesting obsession ones. Also this will allow you to choose between Thundering Stepps and Nektulos on the bell, so this orb is really important, that way you can travel around easily! Just remember to buy another everytime you zone in because I have forgotten that.

Oh also the Steamfront teleport orb takes you to the top of Gnomeland Security in steam front. I would pick one of those up to, I think you can only have three teleport orbs at a time it would not let me buy all 4. Theymaybe for quests but they work so well for a solo player who maybe out of calls or stuck.

Things that are really unfair! and maybe you can help me with?

Insignias

But what really made me a bit grumpy is not being able to get a lot of the Insignias, I am on a PVP server and I find this makes it hard. Because a lot of people buy the ones that are resistant to stuns and things and that puts me at a disadvantage just because I am not in a Guild. Though I guess there might be some that do the same thing that don't require you to be in a guild?

Druid circle teleporting...

Ok there is probablys a way to does it but... how do I teleport using the duit circle, I always used the guild hall druit teleporter but I don't know where to go to use the druid circles without being in a guild? Thank you if you can.

Harvesting

Harvesting and crafting have always been easy solo but I did find that without a harvesting box to put everything into its really hard to store everything I have harvested. being a Tailor and althuogh I am only level 67 so far. I like being able to make everything from every level set without having to buy everything each time. having so many stacks of 200 gets annoying. I am not sure if there is a harvesting box like the guild hall ahs for your home? Does anyone know? At least then I can use it as a kind of storage bank or something then my bank would not have many piles.

thanks everyone...

Being in a guild I think should give all sorts of benefits, so I am not saying everytone should be allowed everything! guilds work hard for a lot of it... But what does owning a big house have to do with being in a guild? If I earned all the status points for it and the money for it and the items to put in it from questing then why shouldn't I be allowed a house thats big? (I guess there is the loot card one) Also for mounts its the same thing if I can earn all the status and money for one without being in a guild I should be allowed it?

By the way I really like grouping, I like helping people... I just had a bad guild experience and nots ready for new one yet. :) If anyone can answer my questions that would be great or if you have any other tips and help for being solo to make things easier for being without a guild that would be neat to.

THANK YOU!

The short answer is that it is a multi-player game and thus, while it supports the solo play style, the greatest rewards and amenities are only made available to those who gather with other players. This applies to groups, raids and yes, guilds.

If you aren't interested in being an active member of a guild, but want to be able to purchase guild rewards with your status, I'm sure you can find a guild that would be accommodating to your needs. There are guilds that started out as simply groups of solo'ers who wanted to be able to spend their accrued status points, but who didn't really want to be bothered with guild-style play or commitments.

Edit - as for the larger, exclusive housing having "nothing to do" with being in a big guild; think of it like an upscale, gated community. If you don't meet certain qualifications the homeowners' association isn't going to let you move in..sort of protecting the image of the neighborhood from having riff-raff or a bad element moving in.

I think thats an American thing, its not like that in New Zealand, anyone can live anywhere if they can buy it really, unless the owner says no but never heard of that happening. :) But then again maybe I should just try get one of those loot card houses.

Thank you for explaining, I guess it makes sense.

I don't like anything guild right now... I would rather choose who I chat to than be forced.

I understand its a social game, I like doing a lot of things. One guild put me on friends list for their Hall, Just in case I wanted to use it, I chose not to, it does not feel right for my character to be doing that.

I am almost tempted to get a guild and level it up myself. I have never played a game where what I can earn on my own is so limited. I think its just frustraighting.I remember when the guild was level 78 or so that I was in previous, I did 30 writs in a row and they went up a lot in experience. Maybe if I get my own guild (but I can't start one on my own) I can level it up by doing 80 writs in a row or something? I have 50 masters and 40 fables weapons and armor in the bank, and 150 platnium right now. I think status would be a problem I guess, I only have 1 million right now, how much does the smallest hall cost?

I think being forced to do certain things that should be player choices is a bit out-dated in games today so I am a bit unfamiliar with it.

I know group play should be rewarding though. There are quests I can never do on my own. I love groups I look for them all the time. But that being said the game should not make it so easy to do so much on your own and limit it.

Like yesterday I figured out how to beat every named monster in Klak Anon and level 54... I was told that was not possible, but its just a combination of jumps, arcane shadows, manashield, stuns and knockdowns with roots in between. But I have a visual memory and remember everything I did the first time and it is basic puzzle solving.

I have noticed the difference though between how much harder Klak Anon is and how easy the new lavastorm is at the back.

When I went to begin the To Speak Like a Dragon quest, I beat that zone on my own a lot easier than I did beat that Medcial named clockwork that was level 54 in Klak Anon.

Have you considered starting your own guild? Maybe you could find 5 other players who are willing to stash an alt in your guild to help keep it open) but don't actually need to be in the guild...

If there's one thing that has been added quite a lot, it's the transport systems. About every city part (Qeynos and Freeport anyway) has a bell and when you're at one of those, you can get to almost all old shattered zones without having to run very far.

There's the druid rings (just find a druid who wants to open a portal), the city call, the Maj'Dul call, the spires and the teleporters between the three KoS zones, the Kunark zones have the griffin transport (not called that, but I can't recall it). Granted, you have to have found all the druid rings and griffin transports before you can use them, but that's not all that hard.

As for mounts, I've always just used the carpet quest reward from the Ro expansion, up untill I replaced it with the Order of the Flame carpet. You have to be lvl 80 to get it, or rather survive the quests to get enough faction, or close to it anyway.

Never buy a ticket in Qeynos harbour to get to Thundering Steppes or Nektulos Forest. It's a waste of money with the improved bells.

I've always been part of a guild and have no bad experiences with them, rather on the contrary, it's what kept me playing and coming back to play all these years now.

I would advice to try again, but a small family style guild. There's little pressure (normally) to group and they can help out with a lot of things. If you find one that has been around for a while, you should be in a higher level guild and have access to good housing and mounts. And ofcourse, usually also have fellow players who can help out with crafting food, drinks and perhaps armour and weapons.

I'm in a guild, but as I do crafting to make money, I prefer not to use the guild harvest box when I'm crafting for business (as that would be taking guild material to enrich myself). I use redwood boxes, and I have two them on in my shared bank with all the items my woodworker and carpenter need (wood, leather, rares, fuel, etc). It's all organized within the boxes. When I want to craft, I have my toon put two of their bags in their bank and pull out the crafting material boxes and I'm all set.

And to add, as for housing and mounts, you don't need to be in a guild to own them, only to purchase them. I had a friend who was in a guild that didn't have enough status to allow him to purchase what he wanted, so he found a higher level guild that was agreeable, joined it long enough to purchase the items, and then returned to his original guild.
