Buying EQ2 (was forum=1)Follow

#1 Jun 20 2009 at 10:02 AM Rating: Decent
Hello,

I was playing an Everquest 2 trial from station.com and i wanted to buy the game.
My friend can sell me a cd-key of EQ2 The Shadow Odyssey.
Can I activate a trial account with this key? Or do i have to got somethin else?
Also i have now 12 days trial left and if i activate it, will i have 42 days of play? Or just 30?

This probably should be in the EQ2 forums but hey, it's a Sony related thing so here goes....

If your "friend" is selling you a cd-key, I question his "friendship". Why not just give you cd-key if he has no use for it. If the package is not opened and your friend is willing to let you make sure the key works, then ya I could see him asking for some of his money back. You will need to purchase the full version of the game anyway as right now it sounds like you're stuck to the first island. Once you leave the first island your trial period ends and your subscription starts. Buy the game if you're going to do that anyway, it should include in most cases 30 days free anyway - these 30 day free periods will not stack. Just using the CD-key without buying the full version will be of no help to you either as the only program files you have are restricted to the first zone.

Personally I recommend you buying your own version of EQ2 at the store in a clean unopened package. No need to risk having a friend unknowingly lead you astray or allowing yourself to be taken for a few bucks.

Last I checked the 30 days fee are only for brand new Station Accounts.

Calthine is correct, the extra 30 days free would only be with a brand new account. If you activated the game fully from your trial account, you would not get an extra 30 days.

From my understanding, once you activate the game with a purchased key (which, personally I agree with tripodvi, you should consider purchasing TSO yourself from SOE's web site or a retailer), the game will automatically convert and your trial period will end.

I know from a couple of EQ friends who ran the trial recently that it can be pretty limiting (no houses, broker, trading, or going past level 20--eek!), so if you feel that you have exhausted all that you can in the trial, then now would be the time to move on. Otherwise, use up your remaining free days while you can. :) Free == good! (though the full EQ2 experience == better!)
