So what is the sequence of the new spell system. I assume the apprentice system is replaced by names (expert etc). So what is this sequence?

I looked at a research assistant and am not sure what they do. The notes say that only one alt per account can use them, or am I mistaken? Once they research a spell, do you then have to buy it? They had no prices, only days needed to research.

spell qualities are as follows:

Apprentice (formerly Apprentice I)
Journeyman (formerly Apprentice IV)
Adept (formerly Adept I)
Expert (formerly Adept III)
Master (formerly Master I)
Grand Master (formerly Master II)

as for how the research assistants work, I got the research assistants researching something now, show will have a firm answer tomorrow sometime, but if anyone has a quicker answer before then, feel free to speak up. But I do know and confirm that it is one character per account, one spell at a time. so it can take a while to try to upgrade all your spells to Master at the end levels (about 1 month per spell). Hope I could help some.

I set the research fella to gettin' me a copy of Death March (Master). I don't play zones at that level anymore and it's one of the higher priced SK masters so I figured why the hell not, right?

What this is going to do is drop the prices on the very very high priced masters. The class defining masters. The mid-range stuff will still sell on the broker out of convenience, but nobody is going to spend the time saving the hundreds of plat anymore on the "signature" masters for their class if they can have it researched for free in a few weeks. This is a good thing imo.

A side note: Read my first player created "book" yesterday. Just..just wow. Serious douche chills.

Thanks for the info. So it appears the Research Assistants are free except for the time it takes to research the spell? When it says one character per account, I assume that means at a time, and then when one spell is done, another character can ask for a spell, right?

Correct. There is no monetary cost to set the research assistant to the task of making you a spell; only the time investment. The research assistant will only research one spell at a time per account, so if you have him researching say a Master Charm for your coercer, the Master Backstab for your assassin will have to wait until he is finished.

Stug has it right. I have the RA researching Dispatch for my Brigand at the moment. When its done I'll probably start researching for my Fury. Since I rarely raid, the RA work perfectly for me as they are. :)

My necro just researched his level 18 heart summon spell, 24 hours for that since its a low level spell (and since they made it scale). I found out today when I logged in that the game actually sends you an in-game mail letting you know your spell is done. So you can save some time by not having to check the RA to see the progress on a spell if you are certain that you want to spend the amount of time on it.

Out of habit I will still check it in the future, just so I know when a spell will be ready.

just a reminder to everyone, you will need to click on "Pick it up" when you go back to the research assistant when the research is done. Then you can have the assistant start researching a new spell on the same or different character.

OK, so I went to the RA, and was shocked by 2 things.

1st. Instead of 30 days for the level 80 spells, it was only 17... Perhaps I am bugged (in a good way), or perhaps my various items and buffs that reduce spell recast time affects the RA?

2nd. In no way is there anywhere near enough spells, either master or adept, offered by the RA. There were like 20 total. Lets just say at level 80, I have a HELL of a lot more spells than that... Yes, I have some masters already, but not enough to have him only offer 20 spells or so...

Anyone have any ideas on these 2 items?

As far as I could tell last night, the RA will only offer you spells for ones you haven't upgraded.

He will only offer you:
- Adept if you have Apprentice/Journeyman
- Master if you have Expert

He will not offer you spells that you already have at Adept or Master level. If, like me, you have a lot of spells at Adept level (I'm not a raider) he won't offer you many, as you'd still need to upgrade yourself to Expert (Adept III) to be offered the Master version.

By doing this, SOE has not killed the master-crafted spell business and silicate loam is still selling for over 5 plat on my server. Edit: Incarnadine clusters meanwhile are around 10 gold!

(I could be wrong, as only spent 15 mins playing around last night)

I have an 80 Warden and he has all Adept 3's and the Research Assistant won't give him the Master for all of his spells, I finished upgrading them before the Research assistants came out can that have anything to do with it? I only have about 15 choices on the list and a only couple of them are for 70 and up. Any suggestions on what to do?

OK, I can comfirm that buying the ADept III version, or whatever the hell its called now, will allow you to have the researcher research your spell. However, my son had bought all the adept III spells BEFORE the researcher went into the game, and he only has a few spells he can get Masters for.

Any idea how to fix this for him? (Other than petitioning, that is...)

Unfortunately, I would say you both need to petition. Long before this update I had all of my spells to Adept III (now Expert), and I've not had any spells missing from the list. (A specific post there did say that Necromancers were not missing any spells, and since that is my main I have not checked with the RA on my alts, since they mostly all run with Adept versions anyway).

You may want to check out some of the posts in THIS thread on the official forums, as it seems others are also experiencing the same issues with a variety of classes.

I know this isn't the answer you are looking for, but perhaps if that thread gets more activity you will have a better chance of getting your issues looked into.

Or petition and get a GM to respond, in which case please post what they say here so we can all continue to get more information on this issue.

/sigh. Typical SOE customer support. Apparently they were "able" to log in my sons character, and supposedly saw all of his masters available to be researched. Their solution was for us to send them a list of the spells that are unavailable.

Well, I'll keep you all posted. Smiley: banghead

Oh, and their big, extremely helpful suggestion was to sort the few spells he IS offered by level... I think we can look at the very few spells he has, and see that he is not offered NEARLY what he should be able to get. Smiley: motz

OK, here's the scoop.

The GM told me they were able to log on Haloek and saw all of his spells on the RA, however, if we still felt there were missing spells to compose a list and send it to him.

Well, needless to say, my son logged on Haloek as soon as he got this message, an, LO and BEHOLD! Every spell he should have had listed was available. There are EASILY 3-4 times as many spells available to him now. The GM insists he did nothing, but the problem magically got fixed.

Well, I always wanted to say this in a non-sarcastic way...

Thanks for nothing, SOE GM's! WTG! Smiley: yippee
