Hey everyone. Forgive my ignorance I just started playing EQ2 recently (been playing for 2 days now).

I got a few questions if anyone can answer, any info would be greatly appreciated.

-Im lvling up toward being a Crusader/Shadowknight and citizen of Freeport, what is the role that my class plays in a group?

-I sorta understand how the macroing system works, any suggestions on what macros I should make?, any general party friendly warnings etc.

-As a future shadowknight should I go with one-handed or 2-handed weapons?

Sorry for the noob questions guys, but the game manual isnt much help and I dont know where else to look. If anyone can answer these questions it would help me out a lot. Thanks

You are the tank of the group that uses your taunts to get the enemy to face you and not the other party members. So always make sure your armor and skills are the best you can afford.

Needless spam during combat is not very useful, and may make someone miss an important debuff warning message. Best one to have is this: "/g Inc t%!"
/g = say in group chat
Inc = Incoming
t% = target that you have selected

So when you click on a goblin and click your macro, it will be somethinglike this,

Eagertolearn says, "Inc a goblin!"

Then you pull the mob ans start fighting. You just told everyone in the party that you are pulling a specific mob.

When you pull a group of mobs, always target and take down the casters, especially the healers.

That is a matter of taste. A two-handed weapon does more damage but is slower. A shield gives you better protection. When picking a weapon, look at it's damage rating, the higher the better.
If you have an ability that does extra damage (also known as a proc) when you hit, then a faster weapon means you will land blows more often, and proc more often.
I could be wrong, but you may have a special ability that does damage to an opponent like Shiled Rush - you'd need a shield for it.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply Tutan, info helped clear things up =)

Got a few more questions if anyone has time to answer them any help would be great,

-Im comming from playing FFXI, in that game it was common courtesy to give everyone a few seconds rest between fights to regen HP/MP is that still the case here? ( i dont wanna seem like an impatient player.)

- Im I correct in understanding that its the tanks job to do the pulling or is another class the "designated puller?" If so whats the unwritten rules when pulling, (pull red ^^^ mobs or lower?)

-Ive read numerous posts thats its impossible to solo in this game, and an equal amount that says you can, I dont have the time to play marathon 18 hour sessions. Am I forced to group to advance at all mid-late game?
Any more infor anyone can offer would help me out a lot, Thanks again.

Regen is lightning fast compared to FFXI. You will all be back to full health/power in a few minutes, less with good food/drink. The smart group leader will wait until the Healer is at full power, then consider the next pull.

The tank is the guy/gal that stands there, taking a beating, and taunting the mobs to keep attacking him. The healers will keep you alive, the DPS'ers will kill it. If there is an add that attacks another member, you quickly target that new add, taunt it onto you, then go back to your orignal target. The casters with paper-thin armor will love you for it. OF course if you have an Enchanter in the group, they can mez the add for you.

It's really up to the group to decide who is the puller. I've seen where a Ranger with long range bow does it, or a Conjurer with the pet can pull. Then the tank does the Taunts to get the mob onto him. Usually the group decides what their targets are, then the tank keeps pulling until he's told to stop. Remember the above comment about waiting for Healer mana to regen first.

You will also learn how much your group can handle. Red^^^ will definately wipe the group like yesterdays news. You may find that blue^^ is too easy, so move up to yellow^, then yellow^^. Each group has different dynamics and abilities...observe, adjust, overcome.

You will be able to solo from day-1 to day-1-million. There is an abundance of solo mobs in all zones for all levels. Keep in mind that solo mobs only drop solo-type loot. Group and Heroic mobs drop much better loot. Many quests require the added strength of a group, especially Heritage Quests. But since there are literally thousands of quests, you will always have something to do.

Good luck!
