Ridiculous Lag. Any suggestions?Follow

#1 Nov 11 2004 at 3:20 AM Rating: Excellent
So, ever since reaching Qeynos, I've been experiencing lag like I've never seen before. I know that I could stand to up my RAM a bit, but otherwise I'm ok. I don't run on the highest visual or performance settings, but as I run around town, I'm experiencing near PC stopping lag. Has anyone else experienced this?

I love this game, and I really would like to play it for a long time. (A RAM upgrade is in the cards for the near future). But when I can't even walk 10 feet without my PC practically stuttering to a halt, I have to wonder if it's worth it right now.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to clear up some of this? Perhaps there is something I should change in my settings to help things along?

Yeah, go to Freeport. People choose Qeynos to Freeport about 3 to 1.

Otherwise, not much you can do. Assuming all other programs are turned off as you play.

Well, that's a not so cheerful option. :/ It doesn't help that I'm on Antonia Bayle.

I had the same problem. I have enough computer and video card, but only 512 ram so the lag was horrible. I can't afford more ram yet so what worked for me was changing my graphics option from Balanced to High Performance and lower resolution to 1024x768. It still looks pretty good and is not really any lag at all. It will work until I buy more ram.

Good luck

I had same problem, ridiculous lag. Decided to try upgrading memory from 500MB to 1GB, wow, what a difference. Character runs through all zones with NPC's talking like real life, all zone transitions now at about 20 seconds versus 4 minutes before. I should have tried this in EQ1.

I had the same problem with also only 512mb RAM. I added another 512mb RAM and upgraded my video card from 128mb to 256mb. Now I can play with no lag on Balanced settings. Now if the servers would just back online.

This is a repost from earlier yesterday. But very buried with all the new threads being generated. It may help regarding lag, by allowing you to select a server on your geographic coast that is faster. If on the West Coast, pick a West Coast server, and same with East Coast. It did make a difference to me.

Results:

Interesting to note the same times of the original testing
from East Coast to East Coast destination where acheived from
the West coast. Very good times from this location to West Coast servers. Pretty good pipes here.

Test Information:

Campbell, California.
Orchard Valley Coffee Shop
Wireless link with
Direct Ethernet Feed to ISP, with DS3 backhaul to Globix in Santa Clara, CA.
