Importance of Primary stats in EQ2?Follow

I was just wondering if any beta testers or others know how important having high starting stats is in EQ2. I mainly ask since i was leaning towards a half elf mage, but since gnomes, dark elves and erudites all have int near 26-30 and the half elf only has 21 i was worried that losing almost 1/6 of the stat pool would affect my effectiveness (Or is this not the case in EQ2 with so many stat items prevalent).
Even though u can be "any race/class combination", is it viable?

Cheers

In my Beta time I noticed very little in the way of stats affecting the new charactor. Everyone I've talked to say that as you choose your other professions when you lvl, your stats will just get adjusted to fit anyway.

So basically to answer your question, Primary stats arent a big deal. And the only time they really seem to matter at all is really early on.

Don't worry about them. Just pick the race you want and as long as your stats are at least average for the class you pick, (like STR for warriors, etc.) I doubt you'll have any problems at all.

So, like we don't have to jack up INT for an INT based toon and then fill in with other items later? is it really that different?

What about something like a High Elf or Dark Elf Fighter? They both have below 15 in STR. Even if you could make up the difference with armor so can any other race with 20+ in STR. So you would never be able to catch up. Unless the base stats are really changed as you go up to even you out with other races.

It helps slightly on the newbie island, but its not game defining. Your equipment and training choices have much more influence over the long term.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Here's the deal.

Stats really do matter, in the long run and in the beginning. A stat of 15 compared to 30 has a fairly real meaning.

However, at lower levels you don't need the complicated fighting techniques, the arts don't take much power, and you will have at least one stat worthy of being called good. In the long run, the class you are give syou the stats you need -- not to mention gear.

So, yes stats do matter, but no they won't ruin a game.

Pick what you want to play, and play it. Don't compare stats, since you can't even see them when you are creating a character.

At lvl 14, I compared power stats of my Shaman (Kerra) to a lvl 14 Druid (High Elf). I only had about 90% power compared to hers...but...better agility, could wear heavier armour etc. Its all swings and roundabouts. Yes she could probably outlast me when it came to power use, but maybe, just maybe, I could take more hits as the armour I could use would be stronger, and avoid more due to agility.

Please don't say that as either druid or shaman you shouldn't be getting hit, the game is designed that you do!

I have considered different races to make the best I could for my shaman, but I don't think there is a 'best' suited character. It's down to the individual and how you play, and who you play with.
