The quest system is pretty in-depth. In fact, quests are alot different in EQ2 then they are in EQ1.
For starters, most quests will require that you actually kill mobs involved or visit certain places where the quest takes place yourself. In fact, most quest items dropped from mobs are actually just flags you get after killing the mob. For example, if a quest has you bringing back insect shells, your journal will update whenever an insect you kill drops a shell for that quest. You won't physically loot or see it, it'll simply say "Quest Journal Updated: Insect Shell Found" and go in an invisible bag for the most part. Another example is a quest that has you looking for mineral samples. You won't actually have to look for ground spawns, you'll simply have to visit a specific area of the zone those samples are in. Your journal will update if you visit the location of the zone it's found in and assume you found the sample there. Some quests, such as collection quests, will allow for you to buy, sell, and trade quest pieces, but they are few and far between.
Another aspect of this quest system is that a good chunk of quests have to be done in the order it's presented. The tour of Antonica is a good example of this. This quest will detail some historical sights found throughout the Antonica zone and have you visit each one. However, you have to visit each site in the order the quest journal gives it to you. For example, you won't get credit for having visited Qeynos Hills in the past or visiting it before, say, Coldwind Point. You will have to revisit Qeynos Hills later when the quest journal tells you to in order to get credit for it.
These two aspects of the quest system alone effectively kill multi-questing and farming quest drops. While there will be some exceptions, most quests will require that you actually participate in completing them vs. just buying drops on the open market or having someone do a turn-in for you. One last aspect of this quest system is that most quests can only be done once. 99% of the quests are this way and allow for nicer rewards while preventing people from over-abusing them for easy money. There are a few that can be repeated such as the Civil Service quest in Qeynos, but they are few and far between and most likely won't be easy money quests.
