I haven’t played EQ2 yet, but on pre-order, so will have it tomorrow. I just came across this though: eq2.gamergod.com/quest.cfm?sortfield=quest_name&sortdir=asc&offset=0 and it makes me think, so I wanted to ask if anyone here has played it and knows.... Is the quest system this in-depth? I mean, these are just level 20 and under quests originating in the Qeynos area by the looks of it. Are there THAT many quests in EQ2!?

There are many many more than that. One person in Beta completed over 450 seperate quests on one character.

There is a ton of quests (a lot you will start seeing right here on eq2.allakhazam.com). Way more than what you see there. A lot of them are just deliver an item or kill a creature. However, these simple and quick quests are still a fun way to explore the land and get some great loot.

Also, as you progress you will come across a lot of more in-depth quests with many steps to them. A lot of these will come up when you unlock keyed dungeons (like Firemyst Gully which is a level 15+ instanced keyed zone).

Hail all,

As others have said already, there are indeed many more quests then listed on that site. The basic quests are a great way to explore the starting cities. But you don't have to do the deliver type quests if you want, I had one character do just battle oriented quests and it worked out great. All depends how you want to play your character =)

The quest system is pretty in-depth. In fact, quests are alot different in EQ2 then they are in EQ1.

For starters, most quests will require that you actually kill mobs involved or visit certain places where the quest takes place yourself. In fact, most quest items dropped from mobs are actually just flags you get after killing the mob. For example, if a quest has you bringing back insect shells, your journal will update whenever an insect you kill drops a shell for that quest. You won't physically loot or see it, it'll simply say "Quest Journal Updated: Insect Shell Found" and go in an invisible bag for the most part. Another example is a quest that has you looking for mineral samples. You won't actually have to look for ground spawns, you'll simply have to visit a specific area of the zone those samples are in. Your journal will update if you visit the location of the zone it's found in and assume you found the sample there. Some quests, such as collection quests, will allow for you to buy, sell, and trade quest pieces, but they are few and far between.

Another aspect of this quest system is that a good chunk of quests have to be done in the order it's presented. The tour of Antonica is a good example of this. This quest will detail some historical sights found throughout the Antonica zone and have you visit each one. However, you have to visit each site in the order the quest journal gives it to you. For example, you won't get credit for having visited Qeynos Hills in the past or visiting it before, say, Coldwind Point. You will have to revisit Qeynos Hills later when the quest journal tells you to in order to get credit for it.

These two aspects of the quest system alone effectively kill multi-questing and farming quest drops. While there will be some exceptions, most quests will require that you actually participate in completing them vs. just buying drops on the open market or having someone do a turn-in for you. One last aspect of this quest system is that most quests can only be done once. 99% of the quests are this way and allow for nicer rewards while preventing people from over-abusing them for easy money. There are a few that can be repeated such as the Civil Service quest in Qeynos, but they are few and far between and most likely won't be easy money quests.

I think probably the best evidence that the EQ2 quests are going to be much more a part of the game than most were in EQ1 is the fact that Quests are billed as a legitimate levelling method in and of themselves as an alternative to the old 'Kill Foozle' way of levelling.

Face it: all but a handful of EQ1 Quests were huge timesinks with a mediocre reward as compared to effort expended. With a very few exceptions, I don't think that doing Quests was a viable way to level- certainly not past the low teens maybe.

If this has changed in EQ2- and almost all indications are that it has- then we're all about to experience a truly immersive gaming experience no matter what your chosen method of levelling up is (aside from PvP and that >probably< will happen eventually).

One of the best ways to get gear is to do the starter quests in eq2. you can get pretty decent gear with some fairly easy quests.

the only long quests in eq that i felt were worth it were...epics and the VT key. Epics were long for a reason...i mean they are ur epic weapon lol and should be hard cause it should be an honor to have achieved that quest and gotta that. Also VT key...that zone had some of the craziest loot and u could easily get 25-30 drops a night that are all upgrades. I know that quest was long a boring...but hey to enter a zone like VT you had to prove that u could handle it...I think those are the only exceptions to the long quest rule. And i think others would agree with me :)

Kryo,

I think you are posting in the wrong forum. All you were talking about was EQLive. This is the EQ2 Forum.
