Good or Evil?Follow

Not that it really makes a difference, I'm just wondering how many people are going to choose Qeynos and how many are going to choose Freeport. I know it'll depend mainly on what race you want, but I'm just curious as to how balanced things will be.

Qeynos

I'm gonna be a Dwarf and don't plan on doing the betrayal quest.

I'm going to freeport.
Though I can make a good guess based of populations during beta and other polls I've seen. Qeynos will be more populated.

Qeynos here as well. Hunting in Atonica is much more fun.

At the beginning, you will see a good split between cities. But as people get close to Level 20, you will see a big shift to Qeynos for all those players who want to be evil-race paladins/rangers/monks because those classes only have trainers in Qeynos.

Which city you choose to start in is based on what race you are for some races (a few can start in either), but your ultimate choice will be based on what class you wish to play. Any race can be any class, but not all subclass trainers are available in each city.

For instance, if you wish to be a Monk you must be in Qeynos (either starting or after doing Betrayal quest L14-19 from Freeport). There are no trainers for Monks in Freeport and you cannot get into Qeynos at all if you are evil (you get ported away.. you cannot enter at all). You can be a Ratonga Paladin, but you have to start in Freeport and then betray to Qeynos in order to access a Paladin trainer.

So, for all you wanna-be darkelf rangers and troll monks and ratonga paladins and ogre conjurers... you will start in Freeport and not get to Qeynos until you are about level 15. Same goes for woodelf necromancers and high elf shadowknights starting in Qeynos and moving to Freeport, although I think these will be much less common.

Freeport is likely to be a ghost town compared to Qeynos once the mass of players gets over level 20, as there is no way to *faction* yourself into being accepted by Qeynos if you are playing an evil class.

Qeynos here too. During Beta, I tried to play a Ratonga more out of curiousity, but found Freeport way too depressing. The voice overs combined with the architecture of Freeport gave me a feeling of living in a dangerous slum where people wanted nothing to do with you or were out to get you. Guess I'm a bit too soft-hearted hehe.

Kind of a shame to be honest. I plan to be a Ratonga Necromancer and I hate to think that there'll be less people around in Freeport. Oh well, we'll see.

You can play a shadowknight *starting in Qeynos* if you choose a good/neutral race, but you will be FORCED to change to Freeport before you can become a shadowknight.

And don't forget all the rain in Freeport, never saw it rain in Qeynos.

Hail all,

My first character will be in Freeport. Mainly because some friends in real life want to be evil. Although I did play Freeport in the beta and I really enjoyed it. Which is pretty unique for me since I normally only play Paladin and other good type roles. The NPCs and atmosphere really made you feel pretty low, but in return it makes you want to rise up and become stronger. Advancing in quests really made you feel like you were moving up and becomming more important in Freeport. I'll see you guys in Freeport!

Freeport is very depressing and the NPCs are rude. Does it surprise anyone that the heart of evil would be this way? If you adjust some of the video settings you can brighten up Freeport a bit, but it won't be nearly as dreary and depressingly evil as intended.

If you want goodness and light and sweetness and flowers, by all means play a good-class character in Qeynos with the 1000 paladins and darkelf rangers seeking to slay evil. =))

I will be starting out as I did in beta, in Qeynos as a Barbarian fighter and future Paladin.

I doubt Freeport will be deserted. It certainly wasn't as populated in beta and won't be when the game launches. However I think enough people have the inkling of evil in them to supply plenty squinty eyed, sketchy citizens to Lucan Land. Plus as posted above that betrayal quest doesn't sound like a walk in the park.

Freeport is definatly a depressing, arrogant, and rude place but many of the comments I got from the NPC's towards my mage made me laugh. Plus I think it has more character than Qeynos, but I know the quests and areas in Antonica better. I also am trying two new character aspects, a good tank. I always play an evil/neutral caster in fantasy games so I want to change it up.

As a side note, I generally don't like to post huge spoilers of quests in advance, but the betrayal quest is very harsh and I feel it's only fair to atleast show people what to expect if they're going to persue it. I doubt most people will appreciate finding out their play time is pretty much hosed till they finish the quest after spending whatever time it took them to develop their character prior to the betrayal quest.
