Hi...is going to be my first time playing any type of everquest. I am actually commin from playing ffxi. My question is I am thinking of being a kerra/fighter and I dont really understand wehter the berserker class is good or evil? Also can a berserker class tank pretty well? or would the paladin be the best choice for tanking and can still do physical damage? The reason I ask this is because the paladin in ffxi are the ultimate tanks and can still do decent damage, but someone told me that is not the same in eq2. Thanks for any future advice givin to me. Also what would be your guys advice for fun fighter class using kerra?

Beserker & Guardian are neutral classes; they can be trained in either city.

Beserker is geared torwards offense, while Guardian is more defensive. As Fighter subclasses they can still tank.

I can't say much about Paladin, but it definitely isn't the same as in FFXI. Don't expect any class in EQ2 to function the way they did in FFXI. :)

cool...thanks for the info it really helps me out. Just to make sure we are on the same page. your character will tank the same when in the fighter class. But the unique abilities and the tanking will change once u finalize the class?...for example picking guardian over berserker, u will tank better but not do as much damage. Is that correct?

in FFXI terms, you had pld, war and nin tanks...
pld tanks didnt do much dmg, but could take a beating.
Ninja tanks didnt get hit often;
and warriors were good dmg dealers, with decent def...
While the 2 games' paladins are not same, the setup is
each tank in EQ2 can tank well, they are just different in regards to dmg and defense capabilities. Monks will evade more, but have less hp. brawlers will be able to take a beating more, but they wont evade much.

I've been doing fighter/warrior/berserker in EQ2 beta and have had no issues with being tank for my duo/trio group or in full groups. I think all fighter types can tank. At higher levels there may be more difference as the armor types allowed may affect 'tankness'. I'm planning on doing berserker again for the live game.

Suposedly all fighter sub classes can tank just as effectively as the other but we shall see.

berserker really sux in EQ 1, tank even worse than Shadowknight and Pally. his dps less than mage and rogue. so no one will border to group a berserker.

they created this class because they want a class under Warrior/pure tanker category with a high DPS. and Berserkers can only use 2 hand weapons.

but maybe its different in EQ 2.

SOE knows they messed up makeing the berserker in EQL .... Too high of damage out put for no tanking abilities.EQ2 is very different from EQL . Remember what SOE is saying ... " This is not EQL "

Well, berserkers in EQ2 can definitely use 1 handed weapons plus shield, though the nice berserker 2-handed axe just looks too good to pass up. :)

As a basis from an EQ player, in comparison to FFXI. Pally/war in FFXI is the ultimate meat shield. In EQ, it the Warrior. In the high end EQ game (65 +) most groups try as hard as they can to find a warrior as tank because first, they have the most hit points than any other class, and second, the highest AC (armor class). Secondary tanks would be a Pally, or a SK. There are no other medians, there, berserks can't take for anything, much less hold aggro. Pally's and SK don't have much trouble holding aggro, but still can't tank nearly as good as warrior of the same calibre. No other class though would attempt to tank unless it was a lower lvl 65 zone like Bastion of Thunder, or something where a Beastlord or Monk with the right defensive Alternate Ability points could get away with tanking. In places like the Elemental Planes or Omens of War zones or Gates of Discord zones the only people that will tank period are Warriors/Pallys/or SK's...and really only Warriors 70% of the time unless the group cannot find one LFG. This might be completly irrelevant to EQ2, but I think some of it might slightly bleed over into EQ2 in some manner.
