Lame QuestsFollow

Will EQ2 have the lame quests like EQ did? There were some quests that would take hours only to get some tiny reward for it. Do you know what I mean?!?

I've found there are all kinds of quests in EQ2 so far. Everything from running a message between a couple of npcs to killing certain mobs, plus the collection quests which are items you might find as ground spawns in your travels.

Rewards range from coin and exp to some very nice items that I equipped immediately. Others I just sold for more cash. The content is far beyond what EQLive had at launch. My 16 druid has completed close to 80 quests already.

The quests in EQ2 are many, and the exp is super given the simplicity of some of them, One of my characters has done over 100 quests since starting it and most of them give decent cash and awesome loot. Some of items given for the quests are suited well for beginning players and the stuff that can't be used right away can be sold for quick cash. Also, the quests give the player a chance to explore the zones and see things without having to go to a spoiler site to get the info on how to do it. The quest journal holds all the info in one conveinent place so you can go to any quest at any time. Another really nice thing about the quests is that, if someone has gotten a quest, and they are to get so many of said item, and they ask you to group to get that item, You accumulate the item as well, so when the items are gotten you get the reward for the quest also, just for being there. Great instant exp for just hanging out!

Are quests able to be done multiple times or do they become unavailable once completed?

Also, if I miss a quest somewhere along the line, will it still be available when I am higher level or not?

There are TONS of quests to do. So many and in so many differant zones that I tended to forget where the NPC was that gave it to me. I was pretty much hailing every NPC I saw at the start and had a ton of quests in process. I have played eq2 for about 2 weeks now and dinged lvl 15. Most of the exp has been from quests. The gear from quests also tends to come freely, I think I have changed all my gear at least once already, some pieces more then that. I have not figured out the tradeskills though. Only stuff I did was as part of a quest on the newbie island. Graphics are awesome!!!

Most of the quest look like you can only do them once. I have heard talk of a repeatable one, but I have not done it myself yet.

There are tons of lame quests. TONS. The only good ones were the class specific or "hallmark" quests. One that have continued story. Its such a pay in the butt to find a decent quest. That is why i want Alla's site to get going so everyone can submit there quest and i can find some decent quests to do.

I am also in the WoW beta. I think WoW is a very polished product unlike EQ2. It has a lot of quests that 90% of them are worth the reward. EQ2 still needs to be in beta for another 4-5 months hah.

If you don't like questing, EQ2 is probably not the game for you. However, if you hate grinding and would rather quest for xp, you should consider Everquest.

While I am yet to be convinced that EQII is the game for me, I have to say the quest rewards are a lot better than EQI.

Yes, there are a lot that only give you a few coppers - but there are some (even below lvl 10) that can give you decent armour for your level. There are a couple in the low to mid-teen range that provide nice weapons and a decent set of boots. (Danes Light Boots and the Coldwind Coast selection of weapons).

Another nice thing is that when you complete some quests, you get a choice of item, ie. In the 'Building Fawns Garden' quest, when you complete it, you get a choice of a Coldwind Coast Hammer (2hb), Mace (I think - 1hb), Rapier (Dual Wield) or Longsword (1hs). At the end of the Dane's Boots quest, there is a set for each of very light, light, medium and heavy armour skills.

Some other quests are less rewarding, and some seem a complete waste of time. There are loads I've yet to do yet, so I may have only scratched the surface. EQII has its flaws, but in my opinion, the quest system isn't one of them - except for the fact that they put a 50 active quest cap on this week - you can almost get to that purely on collection quests.... Smiley: disappointed

I have enjoyed doing the quest in EQ2. They allow you to learn the game well. Without grinding for exp. What i don't like about the quest in EQ2 is that you can only have 50 at a time. There is lots of differant kinds of quest from exploring 9my favorite of these was touring the commonlands which gave Exp cash and a 10 slot bag) and mastery quest which qive extra attacks. Collection quests ( these r more long term quest, Kinda pick things up as you find them lyign around) access quest, language quest. And halmark quest which r character advancement quest. I've found that even the lame quest r fun. They don't take that long and give decent exp.

EQ2 has a huge variety of quests. I've taken my troll berserker from 1 to 21 almost totally via questing (including the xp from kill-mob-X style quests of course). During that period I've completed 202 quests and have about 50 active right now. Some quest types include:

FedEx (take x to y then bring back z).
Kill (kill x mobs).
Book (read a story and do tasks based on what you read).
Mastery (gather specific creature parts for abilities).
Access (do something to unlock new areas).
Tours (find the special locations in various zones).
Enforcer (go strongarm hapless civilians).
Collection (gather specific collections of items).
Hallmark (gain your class progression abilities).
Crafting (make a bunch of something - new).
Harvest (gather a bunch of specific raw materials - new).

I've really enjoyed the quests overall, and over the last month or so of beta many many quests have had rewards adjusted to better suit the quest. Most item quests also give choices so people can be rewarded in a meaningful way. Close to 80% of my current weapons and armor was quested, and that doesn't include the special L20 armor quests.

Good points: variety, decent rewards, good xp.
Bad points: 50 active quest limit (major bummer), tedious 'hunt the NPC' aspect, some quests are hopelessly bugged.

Overall I give EQ2 quests high marks. Devs are actively slaughtering the buggy stuff, and the 'NPC finder' features recently implemented help with the NPC hunt tedium. The 50 quest limit is really painful though (Had over 20 collection quests active when that was implemented) :(

One of the most appealling features to EQ2 that I've heard of (I'm not in beta) is that you can level up thru typical whack-a-mole hunting, Questing or a combination of the two. Any game that provides more than one valid path to 'victory' gets my interest right quickly. All the quests can't be five star world beaters with constant challenge and a compelling storyline- after all, there was only one quest for the Holy Grail (and I never could find that dang shrubbery).

I'm hoping that SoE will avoid the EverCamp tendencies and the hideously long spawns that made some EQ1 quests about as much fun as a proctological exam by a doctor with cold, fat fingers.

Status Points quest are repeatable.
You earn status points and are able to use them to purchase items and it also gains you status in the city.
The quest are also color coded like cons for the levels they are for and if you dont want to do a quest you can pass on it or delete it from your journal.

Yes some quest you can do more then once, but most are a one time deal then a better quest will be avaible, but not right away.

I have not seen where you can not get a quest you missed, but at a higher lvl you will not worrie about it. you have a quest log with check marks that will appear after doing 1 part of the quest then when all done will go your compleated quest list.

This is my honest opinion. Once you bring up WoW in an EQ2 forum you loose the whole intredity of your post. It makes you sound like your bashing EQ2 to win favors for WoW. It comes down to this, if your a fanboy of WoW, then by all means stick with it. EQ2 doesn't need you in the game.

Then if it is SO bad, why the HELL are you playing it? Quit and play something else if you don't like it. Hate people that ***** and moan about something, yet STILL do it! Sheesh!!! Obviously you should uninstall your eq2 beta and just play WoW to your heart's content and leave this message board for relevent material and not some loser ranting about how a game called EverQUEST has way too many quests!

On another note, I saw on the last patch announcement they now have basically scouting quests. You go survey certain creatures (no kill quests)in different zones.

This thread has made me feel warm and fuzzy inside. The countless hours of my life wasted away camping something in EQ for some piddly item that slightly get me along my way on some huge quest is something I was hopeing to get away from. Great example for all you non-EQ, FFXI converters out there, the Goblin Gazuhgi Ring (not sure on spelling but thats close enouph) drops off a rare spawn....but fancy this, its a rare drop too!! This was ment for lvl 20ish people to attain because the effect on the ring is instant invis vs animals. Now that is one of the most useless spells in the game slightly holding a candle above bind sight. But the wonderful thing about it, is that its instant, and any self respecting bard would love to get his dirty little hands on this the break charm during swarm/charm kiting, however you want to call it. Keep in mind, sony/verant really didn't have this in mind when they made the ring, but the decided to find it in there hearts to not break the "nurf bat" out and beat the crap outta it. So, keeping this in mind, I go to this zone hunting this guy down with my 65 beastlord and my big ol' pet. A 65 beaslord and his pet kill much more efficiently non-stop than AE nuking the zone apart cause you eventually run out of mana and so on, my my pet completly unbuffed can beat these level 20 som-odd mobs in a couple of wacks, so needless to say I didn't figure this was going to take very long........boy was I wrong. 12 hours and lots of pain and heartache later, I walked off with my new shiny Goblin Gazuhgi Ring. I highly doubt there was anything content wise in FFXI that even holds a candle to some of the BS camp or quests in EQ, so this isn't even a matter you should even try to start an arguement about. Worthless quests??? Ha!.
