Well I never played EQ before and the first was FFXII and I think am going to quit once EQ2 or WOW comes in , but as far as I know you can solo in WOW , but I don’t know about EQ2 , its not that I hate party’s , but due to my work I only have 2 hours a day and I only can make it into party’s at week ends , so that’s why am asking about being able to solo for exp.
thanks

In Eq / Eq 2 u can solo as much as u want to. But group EXP are faster, 2 men can kill 3 times faster then 1 single man.

Soloing in Everquest 2 will be possible. From my experience in Everquest, EQ game developers did a good job of balancing solo and party exp. A party will be able to train pull a lot more effectively, but solo exp is still good considering the down time. FFXI is such a great game, and an excellent first release by Square Enix into the MMORPG lpaying field, however, the importance of partying for ANY exp is pretty ridiculous.

From the EQII FAQ:

Will I be able to solo whenever I want to?

Yes. We want players to enjoy themselves regardless of their preferred play style or how many hours a day they can log in. Our game has significant amounts of content designed for all classes to be able to solo at all levels, including quests, jobs assigned by NPCs, and areas where opponents can be fought solo rather than in a group.

There seems to be a lot of stuff in the works for the casual gamer as well as the die hard "powergamers".

Yes you will be able to solo in EQII. In fact one of thier producers demained it because he like to solo also. You will even get special buffs you can cast on yourself while soloing though you won't want to use them when your in a group. They will take to many consentration points.
Most of the soloing will take place in the outside zones. The best loot and exprience will still be for the groups though.

From reading the replies, I'm assuming all classes will be able to solo? At any level?

Certainly you can solo in Eq 1, but conventional wisdom is that certain classes (rogue, warrior, cleric spring to mind - but I'm no expert) it becomes very hard, if not impossible, at the higher end.

I'm not saying it is good or bad, I just would like to know.

I hope we will be able to solo in EQ2, because with all the new expansions for EQ1 that have been coming out they all require groups and not just duos but full groups. Most of the experience that i have had in grouping stucks and i dont me the leveling experience, i mean the people in the groups.

All classes should be able to solo fairly well. There are mobs which are marked as "Solo" and those which are marked as "Group". I currently have a level 16 summoner, and can solo even/yellow con Solo mobs fairly well. "Group" intended mobs however are balanced against a group of 3 or more, and I can only solo a Green con about 50% of the time depending on luck and whether I can keep it on my pet. If it comes at me, I'm done.

When I disbanded from my group last night my warrior friend was 17% from lvl 13, so he went on his way. Took him less then 30 minutes to solo the rest of his lvl, I was impressed.

The nice part is the solo HO. As a Shaman, I cast Regen which is my starter, then I follow up with Contagion (a DoT), and close it with Smite. Tic-Tac-Toe rapid HO giving me some nice extra damage (basically doubling my Smite at the end).

Solo warriors also have no problem setting up HO, my friend likes his Kick -> Wild Swing -> Taunt (like most warriors).

You can easily tell which mobs are meant for solo players, they have "Solo" marked in their info. Taking out a white (equal lvl) solo is not too hard. Yellow give better xp but are tougher.

I read one of the irc discussions with the devs and from what that was saying, there should be plenty of solo quests and such to get you from lvl 1-50.

I am lvl 15 Shaman in the Beta and have done a little over 100 quests. Most important thing to do when pulling is read the con. Target the mob you want, highlights on names around him means how many will come with the pull. It may say solo but pay attention if three mob's names are highlighted that is how many will come when you pull one. If it says solo under mobs name means you can solo it. If it says group then you better read the con and see if you need a group to take it even if it is a blue con. A description is on each mob once you target it take the time to read it even if you are in a group.
Sometimes it even tells you if it is a undercon. Through most of my time I have soloed only because you get a group and the puller over-pulls the group has to out run the mobs (in Antonica) to survive. I am slightly disapointed that there is not more solo mobs available as most feel the same way about grouping.
Another thing I cannot find mentioned much anywhere is the aggro factor. Tank pulls group of 4 mobs of course I have to regen and heal and ward the group by the time I am casting the second one 3 of the mobs is on me and tank cannot get aggro back. Not sure how the issue is for all but my view I would rather take my chances soloing than die.

I've been playing the EQ2 beta for a few days, and I've soloed just fine. The best help in soloing is the ability to sprint (as long as you have enough left in your power bar). And mobs won't keep chasing you until you zone. I've noticed that when I sprint far enough away (your sprint seems fast enough to outrun most mobs just fine) you get a message saying "this battle will no longer grant you experience or rewards", or something like that. When I've turned around after that message, the mob has stopped chasing me (usually just standing there, and eventually turning around and walking away). I even walked up to a rat after doing this, and it didn't attack me. Now this was at level 9, and I'm sure mobs will be a lot more persistent at higher levels. But in these low levels, soloing is a snap and there isn't much downtime (you seem to regen pretty quickly).

Yes you will be able to solo to 50 in EQ2.
Yes ALL classes can solo. My 29 Bruiser solos as well as my roommates 28 sorcerer.

Yes group experience is faster but 95% of my experience has come from my over 180 quests I have completed...NOT from mob deaths.

But as they ahve stated many times in the private forums :)....
EQ2 is about the JOURNEY....not the DESTINATION. IF you wanna rush levels...play WoW. If you want a rich and enjoyable MMORPG full of gripping quests and fabulous storylines...and wicked graphics too..play EQ2 and enjoy the ride. (It isn't a race to get to 50 ya know.)

BTW...many of the coolest encounters are set to be gray at 50 so if you rush it, you will not even be able to enjoy it.

I would say you can solo, but the trend of the last few beta patches has been to remove solo content from dungeons and increase the difficulty of soloing in general. While there is still solo content available, at least one dev has stated on the beta boards that dungeons are not designed for solo play.

Also many of the quests through my current level (21st Berserker) have required killing group con mobs. Depending on the current 'state of the patch' this can be challenging, difficult or impossible solo depending on the mob and your class.

In general soloing is much easier in EQ2 than FFXI (the reason I stopped playing FFXI was lack of solo play). I'm a bit disturbed by the latest trends towards limiting solo play, but I think solo is still viable in EQ2.

During limited playtimes, you can solo a bit for EXP. Keep in mind it may not be as fast as grouping, and you are somewhat limited in the variety of content you can explore, but during limited time periods you can solo for EXP.

any game that allows you to solo effectively while waiting for a group is a great game.. = )

I hated FFXI having to sit around expless because you couldnt effectively solo an exp mob.....

My sorcerer can solo mobs that con yellow all the time. Sometimes even an orange con. I say that EQ2 is a vast improvement for solo content and makes it easy to get xp while waiting for groups.

At fan fair, there was a contest. There were a number of people in a 24 hour EQ2 beta marathon. The one with the most exp at the end won. The one that won soloed to level 16, or so my information says. A good soloer will do better than a sloppy groups any day.

To be honest it really depends on how well you play your character as far as you being able to solo. It doesn't get easier as you progress to solo thats for sure.

There are a few things you must group for though. For example, the last armor quest on the Isle of Refuge, your subclass (level 20) quest, and your level 20 armor quests. You could conceivably do without the armor quests, but it would be foolish...however, you can't skip the subclass quest or you will never get level 20. You just freeze at 19 until you finish it, and soloing the quest is not an option. However, there will always be others working on the quest, and if a group kills quest mobs, everyone who has the quest gets credit, there is no fighting over who gets a quest drop.

Which subclass quest were you unable to solo? That's news to me. No one I talked to in-game said so, and the only quest that pure-solo player have complained on the beta boards have been the access quest, everything else they did solo.
#23 Nov 07 2004 at 12:04 AM Rating: Decent
As a templar, for my sub class quest i was forced to enter a instance alone that while tough, was doable. Although for the armor quests I do agree that you need to be in a group to do more then the first part, at least for heavy/medium armor qeynos users.

You must solo the Templar quest - no one else can enter the zone with you... (Unless, maybe someone else doing the templar quest.)

Note to Templars. You might be able to sneak past the first bank of mobs... But that last group is a killer.

As far as all class halmark quest, your are sopose to be able to solo them. If it is impossible, then there is a problem with the encounters or how you are handling it and a new approach is needed. During beta, there were some changes that effected some class halmark quest, but those were mistakes. It has been stated by Devs that all class advancement quest should be able to be soloed.
You will be able to solo to max level if you wish. It is harder and you will not have great gear (unless you buy it), but you can do it.

You can solo to 50 -- almost --. The limitation is that certain access quests, armor quests and class quests require a group to complete. So, you will have to group at specific times to do specific tasks. I soloed to twenty with a cleric, averaging a level a day, except two days when I grouped and gained two levels both days.

If you have a partner, duos can do almost everything. I figure a group of three will have unrestricted access.
