The action bar is really hard to use on a controller. I flip rows accidentally all the time and finding stuff is harder as I can't auto-sort my skills like in XI and any FF game for that matter.

Menus like in XI would be nice since they work with a d-pad a lot better and are faster as you could skip a page ahead by pressing right or left.

Seriously though the action bar just doesn't have that FF-feel that I've gotten used to in about 15+ FF titles.

I applaud them for trying out something new but as it stands the controller is really bad for using this interface and don't get me started on the layout of equipment screen...

I agree !! FF12 battle system was in open world, but it was way more cool than FFXIV rubbish battle system.
I liked FF12 battle UI personally.

I thought since FFXIV game went to bar ? It was always -to select commands, think of next.

That's what I mean XII had the same UI style as every FF game from the 80s until XIV came along. It clearly works with a controller so I don't understand why the PC users are getting the new UI while we controller users are stuck with something that was designed for pc and controls horribly with the controller.

It makes no sense at all.

I can't even speak about the state of the UI for the PC users since I don't know anything about it but don't think you're getting the bad deal here. It's not working on the controller either.

You know what I'd like? A radial menu for skills that's controlled with the analog sticks.

What they really need to do is make a UI for controller use and one for PC. Also would be a huge benefit if that made it customizable. If they do that, then you could pretty much cater to any player's UI preference. Using a controller on this game seems to hinder me more than anything. I played FFXI and absolutely loved using a controller, but I can't say the same for FFXIV. If the UI was different and we had auto-attack, then I would enjoy using a controller. But, we don't have either of them at this moment.

I don't really care for the idea of a radial menu for skills. I wouldn't be able to run around or look, because the menu is taking that spot. But, you should be able to have the choice between things like that. I would really like it if they allowed users to create their own UI, like in some other MMO's. SE could create a couple and then players could build off of that and create their own. I think that would be a good thing. I'm sure that you could be able to do the same for the PS3. Since the game systems are more pc like as time goes on.

would be nice if the skill "bar" could be made into a 3X3 square. I think that would make it easier to use the controller.

I so hate the Skill Bar. I ALWAYS was a fan of the menu system. And it doesn't really feel like a FF without them. Especially when fighting this beomes very apparent to me. The Skill Bar is so cumbersome to use, I'm having to constantly look down at the arrows/numbers to find what I want.

To aviod having to stop attacking and look down, I try very hard to fit all the "essential" skills on the number 1 bar. I don't even think I've ever put anything on Bar #3 and very rarely on Bar #2.

SE should really switch to a menu system...atleast for fighting. Or atleast give us a choice. To me having a Skill Bar makes me feel like I'm playing a totally different genre of game.

I also plan to get FFXIV on PS3 and I can't imagine trying to use it on a controller.

Edit: Some will say that I can always use macros. However, when this game doesn't challenge a person enough in battles and the "1" Button is a huge part of it. I find myself not caring about macros or even looking up ALL the /macro commands to add them all.

First off I want to say I ONLY use a contoller most of the time, and the only thing I can't do comfortably is use items (I must reach for the 'U' on keyboard). That being said, <Item><Menu><Custom><Do you need it?><Yes please!>. I'd love to have a choice of about 10+ different menu skins. I'd like to see classic menus, and the ability to customize the background colour the way you could with classic menus. SE, just copy and paste the XI menu skins for now to give people an option, and add other menu skins as time progresses.

Playing any game that requires the use of controller, keyboard, AND mouse is lame.

Ultimately, the UI should have the flexibility to allow the game to be comfortably and effectively played with a single device. What's it going to be like for PS3 users in its current format?

The action bar is fine, but it's limited, in that to toggle back and forth between enemy and party member you need use a macro in addition to the action bar, or totally displace the action bar with integrated target and action macros. In addition to this, the overall macro UI in this game is 20 steps back from even ffxi PS2, not to mention how horribly it compares to windower macro capability. I don't understand why it takes 10 seconds for a gear swap macro to execute. I don't want to see every item as it's removed or replaced - I just want it done, and done immediately.

I need to use a keyboard or mouse to use an item. Can't we come up with controller capability? What they did with the text window, to me, is worse than it was before. The only way I know how to scroll back thru the text window is with a mouse. That in itself is bad enough. I should be able to do that with a controller, like I could in ffxi. Now, with the patch, I need to click on the window tab with the mouse to be able to scroll back. I guess I don't see what the improvement is there?

If they were to implement a FF classic battle system menu, which I'd LOVE, it should ONLY display equipped skills in order to avoid browsing through a time raping list.

Like Secret of Mana?

I like the 3X3 idea, but have the cursor "bounce" to the center after choosing your ability, either that or have a "memory" setting.

Two clicks down, then you'd switch over to a new tile.
