***EDIT: (Feb 18, 2011) We replaced our router and have not had any problems for the last two days.***
***EDIT: (Feb 25, 2011) The new Motorola router has absolutely fixed this problem.***
I plan to edit this post as I pull specific fixes out of the threads (listed below) and try them. First I will put a few options here, then I will work through them and report on success.
#1 - Forward Ports 55296-55551
Minna Hawke wrote:
Yep, I can confirm that forwarding ports 55296–55551 fixes the problem. Thank you for the tip, Shin Noir. :)
Since we have multiple computers and auto-assign IPs, perhaps it is possible that my forwarded ports have been somehow reset. First step is to verify this.
EDIT: Verified. This is not causing 30002 Error.
#2 - Verify my modem, router and house's wiring sufficient

Assuming your computer is connected via ethernet and nothing else is conencted to your router and you're having the same issue with either computer, next suggestion would be to take the computer to someone else's house, preferably with a different router/modem and try it hardwired there with a different cable.
If that works, then that tells us that the problem is either your router, your modem, your wiring (either inside or outside of your house). If that doesn't work, then the issue is with the computer itself (either configuration or hardware).

This is a very good idea. Fairly easily accomplished and divides your troubleshooting in half.
EDIT: I will try this next. (Feb 10, 2011)

#3 - Second computer on your network
First I plan to download Spybot Search & Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html) on all our PCs to clean up Adware and such.

Yes. I took all systems and computers off the network, including PS3, XBox, iPhone, and all other computers. Even with only the one computer running and not running any other programs, it d/cs, same manner
EDIT: This seems to be part my problem as I disconnect far less frequently when I am the only device on the network. I wonder, Sarizaddi, if there is a chance of some other PC using your connection?
I do still disconnect at times, but not nearly as often. (Feb. 15th, 2011)
#4 - More on Packet Loss
Dzian wrote:
Have you tried using a ping plotter or traceart? maybe trace the connection along its route and find out exactly where the packet loss occurs. Get your friends to do the same and compare results... it became apparant once people started comparing ping tests that most peoples problems were packet loss at the same ip address and thus the cause of peoples problems was found.
For this, a test at http://www.pingtest.net/ may be in order. So far, trying to run this program results in "packet loss could not be calculated", which does not bode well.
EDIT: No packets were lost in this test.
#5 - Change UPnP settings
While you need UPnP set to "Automatic" for the downloader to work, you could optionally turn this off for everyday gameplay.

I may have found a fix for this issue. I also have been suffering from this issue for weeks. After reading and trying several of the suggestions to no avail, I started trying new things. The last try was this. I opened the FFXIV Config, then opened the General Tab. I changed the UPnP Port Mapping from Automatic to Do Not Use. After this I have not DCed all night.

- Hawk Talon
In my limited understanding, this isolates your PC from sharing, but only while the updater is active.
EDIT: This did not work.
#6 - Corrupted Character Data
I find this to be a very unlikely solution. I think the error is clearly related to sending/recieving data, but perhaps corrupted data is interfering.

I found the problem and solution.
In a random chance of misfortune, the saved character settings get corrupted. It could be your macros, keyboard settings, anything that is saved under the user folder can be the cause of this. The result is the server hickups on your character when it tries to read that corrupted piece, booting you with the 30002 error.
To fix it:
1) Go to Documents -> My Games -> Final Fantasy XIV -> user
2) Delete all the folders inside.
3) Restart the game.
You should have no problems unless something in those files gets messed up again.

This fix is also mentioned on the Lodestone posts about Error 30002. Someone suggested copying your "user" folder to another location. Then when you log-in some kind of charachter info cache is cleared, and you can simply replace the "user" folder and not lose your macros. I will certainly keep a backup of this info if I get to this step without finding a fix.
EDIT: Not the problem.
#Last - Change my ISP
Dzian wrote:
for me the problem was simply my isp (which was Tiscali) after a little research on the internet i found my fault to be tiscali's port blocking, and traffic shaping procedures during the "peak" hours. and with a little more research on the EVE community forums i found i was one of hundreds of people with the same problem and the same isp so i changed and had no more problems since.
EDIT: Would I really change my ISP for FFXIV? Would my wife let me? Stay tuned.
While there are a number of fixes suggested within these threads, many agree that there is a very long list of things that COULD cause this error.

If it is possible, please fix this Error game-side. If anyone has additional suggestions, please add them here.

I've decided not to delete these Edit Dates any more. Might as well have some record of exactly how long and often I've been work on this.
