This a compilation of the available info regarding 30002 Error. This error causes players to lose connection every 20 minutes or so and is specific to FFXIV.

***EDIT: (Feb 18, 2011) We replaced our router and have not had any problems for the last two days.***

***EDIT: (Feb 25, 2011) The new Motorola router has absolutely fixed this problem.***

I plan to edit this post as I pull specific fixes out of the threads (listed below) and try them. First I will put a few options here, then I will work through them and report on success.

#1 - Forward Ports 55296-55551
Minna Hawke wrote:
Yep, I can confirm that forwarding ports 55296–55551 fixes the problem. Thank you for the tip, Shin Noir. :)

Since we have multiple computers and auto-assign IPs, perhaps it is possible that my forwarded ports have been somehow reset. First step is to verify this.

EDIT: Verified. This is not causing 30002 Error.

#2 - Verify my modem, router and house's wiring sufficient
Mikhalia the Picky wrote:
Assuming your computer is connected via ethernet and nothing else is conencted to your router and you're having the same issue with either computer, next suggestion would be to take the computer to someone else's house, preferably with a different router/modem and try it hardwired there with a different cable.

If that works, then that tells us that the problem is either your router, your modem, your wiring (either inside or outside of your house). If that doesn't work, then the issue is with the computer itself (either configuration or hardware).

This is a very good idea. Fairly easily accomplished and divides your troubleshooting in half.

EDIT: I will try this next. (Feb 10, 2011)

***EDIT: (Feb 18, 2011) We replaced our router and have not had any problems for the last two days.***

#3 - Second computer on your network
First I plan to download Spybot Search & Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html) on all our PCs to clean up Adware and such.
Sarizaddi wrote:
Yes. I took all systems and computers off the network, including PS3, XBox, iPhone, and all other computers. Even with only the one computer running and not running any other programs, it d/cs, same manner

EDIT: This seems to be part my problem as I disconnect far less frequently when I am the only device on the network. I wonder, Sarizaddi, if there is a chance of some other PC using your connection?

I do still disconnect at times, but not nearly as often. (Feb. 15th, 2011)

#4 - More on Packet Loss
Dzian wrote:
Have you tried using a ping plotter or traceart? maybe trace the connection along its route and find out exactly where the packet loss occurs. Get your friends to do the same and compare results... it became apparant once people started comparing ping tests that most peoples problems were packet loss at the same ip address and thus the cause of peoples problems was found.

For this, a test at http://www.pingtest.net/ may be in order. So far, trying to run this program results in "packet loss could not be calculated", which does not bode well.

EDIT: No packets were lost in this test.

#5 - Change UPnP settings
While you need UPnP set to "Automatic" for the downloader to work, you could optionally turn this off for everyday gameplay.

jeffmikl wrote:
I may have found a fix for this issue. I also have been suffering from this issue for weeks. After reading and trying several of the suggestions to no avail, I started trying new things. The last try was this. I opened the FFXIV Config, then opened the General Tab. I changed the UPnP Port Mapping from Automatic to Do Not Use. After this I have not DCed all night.

- Hawk Talon

In my limited understanding, this isolates your PC from sharing, but only while the updater is active.

EDIT: This did not work.

#6 - Corrupted Character Data
I find this to be a very unlikely solution. I think the error is clearly related to sending/recieving data, but perhaps corrupted data is interfering.

LyleVertigo wrote:
I found the problem and solution.

In a random chance of misfortune, the saved character settings get corrupted. It could be your macros, keyboard settings, anything that is saved under the user folder can be the cause of this. The result is the server hickups on your character when it tries to read that corrupted piece, booting you with the 30002 error.

To fix it:
1) Go to Documents -> My Games -> Final Fantasy XIV -> user
2) Delete all the folders inside.
3) Restart the game.

You should have no problems unless something in those files gets messed up again.

This fix is also mentioned on the Lodestone posts about Error 30002. Someone suggested copying your "user" folder to another location. Then when you log-in some kind of charachter info cache is cleared, and you can simply replace the "user" folder and not lose your macros. I will certainly keep a backup of this info if I get to this step without finding a fix.

EDIT: Not the problem.

#Last - Change my ISP
Dzian wrote:
for me the problem was simply my isp (which was Tiscali) after a little research on the internet i found my fault to be tiscali's port blocking, and traffic shaping procedures during the "peak" hours. and with a little more research on the EVE community forums i found i was one of hundreds of people with the same problem and the same isp so i changed and had no more problems since.

EDIT: Would I really change my ISP for FFXIV? Would my wife let me? Stay tuned.

While there are a number of fixes suggested within these threads, many agree that there is a very long list of things that COULD cause this error.

This thread assumes a hard-wired connection. Trouble shooting wireless is a separate issue.

Error 30002 is not caused by wireless connections. It may be a contributing factor, but not the root cause.

Disabling your Firewall completely has also been mentioned. I have disabled mine. Although, this could be the problem rather than the solution.

Edited, Feb 7th 2011 12:56pm by RufuSwho

EDIT: I think I'll turn the Windows Firewall back on now. FFXIVboot.exe is on the accepted list.

In a separate line of thought:

Uryuu wrote:
Most likely your issue is being caused by dropped information packets on your end.

This can be caused by a variety of issues, but they can generally be categorized into one of two larger generalizations.

1. Your router, modem, and/or connection are insufficient.
2. Downloads, uploads, or other forms of traffic are interrupting the flow of information.

Since the issue has just recently come up, possibility #1 is unlikely (but I'll work on that above.)

Possibility #2 here would have to be some recent change in my home network. Did I acquire a virus? Adding a thought to #3 above.

EDIT:

1. My router, modem and/or connection was sufficient until the update in January.
2. I have turned all other programs and processes on every computer (including mine) in our house off.

Wait it out?

Same thing happened to me last week for about three days. Every night at around the same time the game would start to randomly disconnect. I just logged out of game when this happened and didn't start playing again until the next day.

During the day it was fine, only at night did any problems come up.

The only thing I can tell you is to wait it out. That's what I did and now I'm back to playing disconnect free.

mannyfresher wrote:

It deserves some consideration that for these two users the problem went away. Perhaps a second computer or some other factor was temporarily effecting data transfer. What kind of problem above would be start suddenly and then go away?

■ If you are unable to connect
By trying the steps below, you may be able to fix the problem.

* Power cycle the connectivity device
Sometimes, resetting the bad data stored in the connectivity device will allow you to connect normally. Turn off the power on the modem, router, hub, etc., wait several minutes, turn the power on again, and check whether or not the problem is fixed.

* Update the firmware of the connectivity device
With some devices, you may be unable to connect properly using a certain version of the firmware. We recommend updating to the newest version.

- Please check with the device’s manufacturer regarding the method of updating the firmware. Even if you are running the newest version, overwriting it may fix the problem.

* Connect the PC directly to the modem
To determine the source of the problem, temporarily disconnect any device that splits the connection, such as a hub, connect, and test whether or not the problem has been solved.

- The connection type may be changed to broadband. Please ask your provider about which settings to use.

* Firewall settings/deactivation
Please delete or deactivate any programs that you judge to be unnecessary and check whether or not the problem has been fixed. At this time, if you are using security software or firewall software, you can try (at your own risk) adjusting the settings so that “ffxivboot.exe” is allowed to bypass the software, deactivating the software, or uninstalling it.

- How to terminate all running applications

*How to Shut Down Background Programs
Click on the Windows Start Button. For users of Click the "Run" button (or the "Search programs and files" text box for Windows 7 users) once the Start Menu is displayed. In the text box that comes up, type in "msconfig" and then click the "OK" button. The "System Configuration Utility" dialogue box should then be displayed. Click the General tab, and then click "Selective Startup." Uncheck the "Load startup items" checkbox, and then restart your computer. Once your computer has finished restarting, please try logging into FINAL FANTASY XIV again. After conducting this test, please be sure to return your "Load startup items" setting to its original configuration.

*Users with Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 will have to add an exception for FINAL FANTASY XIV in their Windows Firewall settings.

・Confirm Internet Connection
Please confirm that no maintenance is being performed and no connectivity problems are being experienced by your internet service provider.

・Confirm Internet Security
Please confirm with your internet service provider that no network security services are being performed by them. Depending on the type of security service being provided, your communication ports may be blocked and regular internet access may be hindered.

EDIT: Followed these steps. Because my problem is not connecting, but rather staying connected, many of these do not apply. I have done them all one by one regardless of this.

My ISP, AT&T, is not all interested in the fact that I have a connectivity issue with one specific game. They ask if my connection is working right now. I say yes. Then they say it is not their problem.

I submitted a ticket because this is really getting the better of me. Sometimes I can log in and stay logged in for hours, other times no matter how many times I try logging back in, I keep getting booted every 5 minutes. So frustrating.

So I ended up doing this first because it seemed so easy. Did not disconnect all night after that.

Either the 30002 Error gave up, or the easiest fix on the list worked.

EDIT: This did not work permanently.

Got the 30002 Error a couple more times last night. So the UPnP fix in the Config is not the final answer.

I get the Error at the exact moment my wife Logs On to her laptop, and at the exact moment she Logs Off.

For her laptop, she had Homegroup Sharing turned on as part of the Startup Applications. We turned that off but have not yet tried to see if it still causes FFXIV to Error at startup.

FFXIV is clearly sensitive to changes in your network. On-going usage such as streaming seems acceptable. Changes in what devices are accessing the network seem to cause the Error.

I have a half dozen internet devices in my house and I can't keep my whole family from logging on/off of these devices everytime I want to play FFXIV.

I would prefer it if FFXIV would play nice with others.

Nope.

Tried Logging on and off the second PC (laptop) and nothing happened. Then I got 30002 Error about 15 minutes later with no changes to our local network. Still just randomly disconnecting.

FFXIV remains the only program that has trouble.

The amount of time I have spent troubleshooting FFXIV grows by the day.

Further complicating this troubleshooting process is the fact that you have to wait to see if it Errors out. It is not a change-and-see-if-it-works problem. It tends to wait until I activate a quest to disconnect.

Phone support from SE is only during business hours.

SE has the attitude that this is not their problem. Their servers are up and running. I simply don't disconnect with any other hardware or program. This is an issue exclusive to FFXIV.

Note: This is happening to both computers in the house. It never happened to either of us until Dec.28, and now it is so bad that we literally can not complete a single leve or guildleve. It has literally made the game unplayable.

Any new developments on this...? This problem just started for me last Thursday, and it's still not better yet. I've tried every single suggestion that I could follow, and nothing is working. No one has mentioned an issue that sounds exactly like mine yet though:

I log in, and within a couple of minutes (usually right away), I R0... but I can still chat with people for about 10 minutes before it kicks me with the 30002 error. I noticed these problems have been ongoing for a while now, but weird that it'd just start happening to me out of no where... Luckily, I can play the game by tethering my cell phone internet, but it's still a pain in the arse.

I can't even do anything thus far as port forwarding etc. because I'm on university net. I'm not gonna call demanding ports be opened (although the ones listed are the ones I already had them open at the beginning of the semester last Fall) until I see something that for sure works to fix the problem. This is unbelievably irritating.

There is no fix for this. Other people may have a problem with one of the items above, so running down the checklists provided here may help. However, it is possible that you will complete all of these items and still have a problem.

I remain online for very long periods of time when no other PC are connected in my house. I do still error at times, but not nearly as often as when my wife's laptop is sharing our router. It is not possible to tell my wife she cannot use the internet.

I will need a second line run to the house if I want to play FFXIV uninteruppted.

SE, please make changes to FFXIV that allow it to run continuously and simultaneously with other PCs on a shared network.

Well, the problem started over a week after the last update for me, so I don't see how it could be related to something they changed in the game.. D: Frustrating, though... Guess I'm lucky I can tether cell phone internet to my computer, but it's still rather annoying.

Please submit a ticket to SE.

It is our only hope of getting some help from their side. While our networks or configuration my be suspect, as you say, the problem popped up for many people at the same time, without any changes to our network usage.

One poster guessed that recent changes to improve UI speed have made the servers more unstable.

SE will only work on this this if a decent volume of users submit a ticket through the official channels.

According to the support department, the Error that they get calls on the most is 30002 AT LOGIN.

The random, but constant, disconnects during play are a separate issue. When writing a ticket to SE, it would be best to describe that you are gettting 30002 during play and not at login.

We recently replaced our router, had our ISP come and test our network and hardwired some of the other devices in our house. Now I just need some playtime to see if any of this fixed the problem.

We replaced our router.

Specifically, we had a AT&T 2-Wire 2701HG-B modem/router. These things have been around for a long time. The AT&T tech guy that came out replaced it with a "business" modem, as he called it. Not sure the specific make and model.

We were able to resume our normal activity, my PC wired, the rest of the house wireless. My wife streamed netlix, son was on the 360, played all night with no problems. If this works all weekend then I will update the thread title with FIXED.

In the end, we upgraded our network hardware because of FFXIV. Also, FFXIV worked fine until recently. I think the latest changes in the efforts to speed up the UI caused a loss of server stability. Just a guess though.

I hope this thread saves some other people time troubleshooting this problem.

Still working. Not a single disconnect.

The router that was given to us is a Motorola router.

http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/US-EN/Consumer-Product-and-Services/DSL-Modems-and-Gateways/3347-02-10ENT-Netopia-ADSL2plus-3-D-Reach-Extreme-Router-US-EN

This seems to be it.

I would contact your ISP and tell them you are getting constant disconnects. Request a replacement router.

(We also upgraded our speed from 3 Mbps to 6 Mbps. The speed upgrade did NOT fix the problem. We got the higher speed before the router and still disconnected.)

Read my first post in this thread; I explained the problem I'm having there. Changing modems etc. isn't possible because I'm on uni net. I guess I'm just SOL, because I already had them forward the applicable ports etc. and that had nothing to do with it.

Luckily I can still connect to the game with cell phone internet, but it's gonna be problematic later when the game has some endgame stuff to offer. :( If someone calls or texts me while I'm connected with cell phone internet tethering, I disconnect.

So if FFXIV is picky with shared connections I can see how it would have a fit on a University network. I wonder what actual hardware they use. I think the game did get pickier just recently. The oldest posts here are of 30002 at login. It's strange that you can chat for so long after R0, but I have no idea what that indicates.

Since you have little control over the hardware, my solution is no help. Maybe someone else on campus plays FFXIV. You could compare notes and see if the problem is specific to your dorm. Call IT and say you have an intermittent connection. They seem to take that phrase seriously, since that is their job specifically. I doubt they will replace hardware, but it's worth a shot.

Goodluck sir.

i had started getting this error, when the game first came out. it was also the first time my on-board lan(realtek-RTL8111C) didn't take to well to a specified game. i've had issues with it before but it was broad and not specific.

i purchased a Intel Lan card and Ive had no connection issue's, ive also recovered from DC's with the card which is sweet when you doing a leve.

After one week of play I started to get error 30002, I created another character and played a bit and went back to my main. I was able to stay connected for 3 hours then got error 30002 again T_T.

I have already followed the directions/advice on SE's support website and nothing had worked for me as well. It seem from my search that this error message 30002 was also a problem in the beta.

After having no issues since release, it begun happening to me around 3 days ago. One day it was fine, the next it was like this sort of deal.

I have finally solved my issue with random R0 and Error 30002. It was some settings on the actual network interface card for the computer I have running FFXIV. I have tried virtually everything on this thread and even more, but nothing worked until I changed the following three settings.

These are the settings, and what they are set to for stopping Error 30002.

Quote:
Flow Control = Disabled
Interrupt Moderation = Disabled
Priority & VLAN = Disabled

To get to these settings, they are usually located in the Advanced tab of your Networking Controller in Device Manager.

1. Right Click My Computer or just Computer
2. Select Manage
3. Click on Device Manager
4. Expand the Network adapters list
5. Double Click on the network adapter listed (if you have more than one and not sure which one, just do this to all of them EXCEPT for wireless network cards)
6. Click on the Advanced tab
7. Select Flow Control and set the Value to Disabled
8. Select Interrupt Moderation and set the Value to Disabled
9. Select Priority & VLAN and set the Value to Disabled
10. Click OK
11. Reboot!

If these settings work for you, please post what network card you have. I have the:
NVIDIA onboard NIC from the chipset nForce 570 Ultra MCP

So i encountered this too and i have good/bad news for you ppl if this is still an issue. It is on your end. I couldn't log back in after random d/c so i turned my phone's wifi on and it connected easily. Tried connecting again over my normal router and it had the same problem. And yes, the game normally does run over my normal router, something must have changed during mid-game... Like more ppl on my normal service since i'm in an apartment.. Whatever the case may be, this makes me feel like it is not a ff14 side problem...

Was this error ever confirmed to be fixable? I can't enter the game world on my only character without getting it now. My account has been active for not even two days and the game is already unplayable. Pretty mad. :(

I am also recieving this error on attempt to log in. For the following reason I am 100% convinced that my 30002 error is on SE's end.

I was over at a friends house this weekend, on friday he bought the game to play it with me. We played all day friday together. When we wake up the next day (sat) he logs in just fine, while I'm hit with this 30002 error and cannot log in. I then say "Hey let me try and log in on your computer since you can get on just fine on your account". I then try and log in on my account, on his computer. I still get hit will the 30002 error. He then procceds to log back in on his account on his computer just fine.

How can this (in my case at least) NOT be on SE's side?

P.S. It is now sunday evening and I still get this error. I'm calling SE tomorrow and giving them an earful.
