i think mabie a good way to fix playability is to have some job classes that branch off
if your a pug you could become a thf, mnk,or nin. after completing a required quest.
if you want to become a pld/dk you need to level glad and the respective magic class.
rdm would be like glad and both magic classes.

I like it.

Kind of like the specialised jobs in neverwinter nights ^^.

You should post your suggestion directly to the ffxiv team via their support site -> suggestion box.

You can already do this, in essence, in game. You just don't get the class name.

GLA 20, THM 20, CON 20.

Take your gladiator. Add some of the stat debuffs from THM (18), a nuke/shock spikes (CON), or Styrgian Spikes (THM), Bio (THM), Elemental DoTs (CON) and you have... a DRK.

Take different skills... and you get a PLD. The idea behind the armory system is that there is no need for advanced jobs because you can take the abilities from jobs you have leveled and create your own job, of sorts.

After rereading that it comes off a little more critical than I meant for it to be. To add something constructive, perhaps they could add "advanced classes" that are, essentially blank trait wise but have a few extra spell/skill ability/etc. points to spend and they could have their own unique traits to learn as well. How about that for a fairly easy to add compromise?

i'd quite like to see a greater variey of abilities. maybe add some kind of choice. for example at rank x you can learn either ability1 or ability2 and which you choose sends you down a differnet path.

as an example take pugilist. lets say at rank 10 i have a choice i can learn some kind of karate chop thing or maybe a kung-fu punch. but which i choose send me down a different path towards either a karate master or kung fu master kind of thing. both still a pugilist class but with very different skills.

the down side though as goes with most other games is that somewhere people are gonna run all the numbers and equate that kung-fu is 1.4% better than karate and thus every pug would be kung-fu only.

still doesnt stop me disliking the idea though.

what i loved with the first mmo (ffxi) was unlocking new jobs to play . and yeah if you unlocked a new advanced class it would have it's own skill set to mix and mach. could you imagine a pug with Utsusemi: Ichi plus evasion skills. or a glad that could dual wield wich besides pugilist is missing from the game. same thing with the classic summons.
ive mixed and mached skills from a bunch of different jobs in essence i play a pug/arch/lnc/mrd but at the end of the the day im still a pugilist.
