Well her eis my little story.

For the 10th+ time since the game was released I failed to notice the icon that showed loot, and noticed only when the log scrolled by 10 items i wanted that I threw away because my inventory was full.

Can you please implement a more obvious popup or colored text in the chat log reminding us that in 1 or 2 minutes our Loot List will be purged and all that loot will be lost?

Thanks for the consideration, I know countless people have fell victim to this situation where they are either too busy or just failed to notice that they had loot and a full inventory, and Lost items that they dearly needed or had spent hours farming for.

LOL

Reminds me a system situation at work. A month earlier our sys techs had introduced an extra confirmation yes/no feature to finalising system activities.

Keep in mind for this story general human nature and the 'domestic blindness' issue where you become so used to something you just don't see it.... aka 'familiarity breeds contempt'.

So sitting next to a co-worker one day "Oh bugger! you know we really should be asked whether we want to proceed or finalise before the system actions our activities..."
"What's up?"
"I just realised I've made a mistake, but the activity has already gone through..."
"...there is that part where it asks whether you want to finalise yes or no..."
"Well .... yeah ... I suppose ... but you know, you just automatically press enter to get past that point because it's just always there."

The reason why I mention the story above is - no, I don't think we need to have additional notifications about items being temporarily held in the loot list. We already have a kinda flashing mini treasure chest that appears in the status/buff area.

If you request a pop up to remind you of when the list will be purged (which I don't think would work anyway because loot list items are lost if the number listed is greater than 10 anyway) then other players will be complaining about getting these notifications popping up mid monster fight and unduly distracting and annoying them... ^^

The problem is not that we don't have sufficient notification of items in the loot list - the problem is (as you yourself have aluded) that you're just failing to notice/are too busy to take time to notice. The resolution is that you find some way to take more notice of what's currently on your status bar.

Alternatively, if SE were to actually make a change so that the loot list reminder was more 'in your face' then I would suggest instead of just another visual notification as you've suggested (because another visual notification is just as likely to be 'not noticed' as the current one) perhaps an optional sound notification instead - like a regular chiming sound. It must be noted though, that a number of players would find this annoying, so it preferrably should (if at all implemented) be something able to be opted in or out of, perhaps in the configuration menu.

PS - I really don't see an update on this matter being a priority update though - possibly one of those little quirks that the devs will consider in the longer term.

Was just thinking this through further. Apart from the loot notification - could it be possible to (again on an opt-out basis through the configuration menu) attach varying audible bells, whistles and chimes to various buff/debuffs currently on your character? It wouldn't have to affect connection with the server would it? I mean it could be something that - if you opt for - you own PC could bear all the processing burden for...

It would also be useful as a communication device for people who have some degree of visual impairment.

I'm not a programming person in any sort of way, so if anyone with programming experience would like to add their thoughts on this ....? 8)

How about, say, a handy content-sensitive menu that can be brought up with a single button press that allows you to see things like Treasure...

Oh wait, that's FFXI... and we wouldn't DARE want to use something that works perfectly well, we'd rather have a menu of emotes DOT DOT DOT AWKWARD SILENCE

We have that. It's called the Interactions menu, and it can be accessed just as quickly and easily as the command menu in FFXI. >_>

Some people are colorblind to shades of red and green the exact colors of that icon and its easy for the eyes to blot it out.

In my case I moved it to a corner i dont look at much because my gear is always damaged and i dont like looking at a gear damage icon. If the icon COuld be made to grow in size and have a countdown timer letting you knwow loot will be gone in x seconds you might notice it better then that little treasure chest.

You mentioned it blinks but only for a second when loot gets added then it doesnt blink anymore.

So you missed the icon, the change in log text saying that XXXX is in your loot list, and the loot list option in the main menu?

The treasure chest icon that pops is enough for me. Don't really need anything else done atm to lemme know I have loot. I would rather them work on something else till the game is honed.

You know that you can separate chat logs so that your battle log and ls/pt/say/shout chat are separate, correct?
