Please don't fail leves on d/cFollow

Yesterday I'm running along trying to get to my group of targets, when BAM DX10 error and I'm kicked out of fullscreen. (Note: this is a FFXIV error - I've been dealing with it forever and updating drivers, etc has only reduced the frequency of the issue).

Log back in and the leve has failed. I didn't even get a chance to kill a single mob.

I know this has been around since beta, and is intended to prevent players from exploiting by disconnecting. Which would be fine, if the game was more stable. Right now it's just causing me to waste a lot of time, lose opportunities to gain levels, and for a casual player it could be even worse. If you only can play one or two days a week, and you end up dc'ing for one reason or another, you're just out of luck.

For now, SE should remove the failure on disconnect until they get the rest of the game working.

I'm not - I'm on Windows 7 and fully-updated.

I could see blaming Windows if it happened with any other of the 20+ games I play on this OS. But it doesn't...

I have had four failed leves because I got disconnected. They really need to fix this. I've had to kill just one mob on most of the leves and I would have completed it. But because of d/c I fail. I have missed out on good gear and money because of this. Hell, I did a level 20 leve on my 13 lancer. Had to kill cactaurs to get some item. I just need one more item and guess what? Yeah, I d/c and fail. That would have been a really incredible accomplishment for me. Yet again, it is ripped out of my hands.

I'm sure they will fix this if enough people talk about it.

same here, i think that need to be address, failure cause of d/c is just unacceptable, losing any quest base on d/c is unacceptable and ppl should not be penalize.

we have a 30 min timer for the quest it seems like if we can still get back on within that time limit the quest should still be active

^ Nope. You d/c, you fail.
And as often as this game crashes for no apparent reason, they ought to fix it such that you don't fail (at the very least) upon logging back in within the time limit. The timer SHOULD continue the countdown once you log back in, but I know that's wishful thinking.

I agree that that auto-failing a leve due to a Disconnect is too harsh. IMHO it's stupid and it punishes players unecessarily when "sh-t happens." I've auto-failed a few leves due to either the game crashing, my ISP having a hiccup, or power outages.

As long as the there is time left on the timer, a player should be allowed to continue the leve. It doesn't take me more than a couple of minutes to log back into FF14. And sometimes, it feels like I wasted a bunch of time when I spent 10-15 minutes running to the camp to initiate the leve (and it may be my last and 8th one for the day) to only have it auto-fail due to any number of the aforementioned random reasons why I may have disconnected.

Please SE, reconsider that your attempts to reduce exploits only hurts your playerbase in the end.

This is the 3rd time it happened to me during a battle leve. I was on my final mob and "Server Lobby Error" "Error code 3001" and I was DC. This is rediculous! Leve quest is my real fun and I am tired of this nonesense. 3rd time for the same Server Error during Leve Quest!!!!!!!

I agree that solo the timer should pause when you DC and you can resume on log-in in a party the leve should reactivate when you join the party again but the timer should keep going as there are still people to actively pursue the leve targets. However that being said failure on DC isn't as huge an issue as some other things, as you can already retry failed leves and turn them in after the next reset without it counting to your total for that reset.

Three times. I suspect it was the FFXIV program failing to hold hands with the server because I didn't notice a gap in listening to Pandora.

"R0" refers to your receiving rate reaching 0, which generally happens of watching your R rate steadily decline. When other players stop moving and your R rate drops, you're likely about to lose connection from the game server. It appears under your sending rate (S).

Oh ok lol. Shouldn've realized that lol. Yeah, I've had that issue quite a few times. I was having that issue last night. Apparently I wasn't the only one. Because, a few people on my LS was talking about having the same issue.

I totally agree. I have only been playing close to 2 weeks now and have already lost at least 5 leves due to disconnecting at the beginning of a leve or after killing one mob. I don't understand why it works like this at all.

As far as exploiting if not done this way, I don't see how anyone could possibly exploit if they came back from a dc and could finish their leve.

Agree with OP.
I am a casual player, but when I actually do play, I can Grind, or Synth for hours w/o any problems, but for some reason, as soon as I try a battleleve, 1/4 of them are doomed to get me disconnected, not sure if it is just me or not, but I hate the feeling of starting a Leve, running towards the mobs, only to get a FFXIV has stopped working, Like I said, It only happens during Battle leves. Its a bit ridiculous to have to wait till next reset to try the leve again.

This had happened to me once, dcing while doing a leve on Bloodshore, and the reward was MRD guildmarks. When I can back the plate on the leve had an red X mark on it. I was kinda pissed off like most of everyone here, so I finished all my leves logged off for the night at Bloodshore.

Here the kicker though: when I came back a day later on reset, I looked at my leves again. The leve I was doing when I dced, no longer had an X mark plate next to it.

Has anyone else experienced this?

This is normal, you can retry failed leves after the reset. They also do not count to your leve count for the reset you retry it on. It has been like that since I got into open beta.

Edit: Spelling fail.

Prior to the recent upgrade I very rarely d/c but since the upgrade this has become quite problematic. I went to bed last night very disgruntled after it kicked me out. Still having problems getting back on-line, hope this will not be a permanant problem!
