So basically a prologue to Stormblood. The premise is cool and I like that the Judg- I mean Garleans are returning. Gotta say I'm glad the dragon stuff is being put to bed. Estinian's arc was cool but on the whole I found the Heavensward plot to be a giant bore.

And LOL @ the translation team totally spoilering Papalymo's death with a damn title. I didn't really care about that character anyway, so whatever. Dumb move though. I also didn't care about Haurchefaunt but apparently he's really popular for some reason.

I liked the Dragonsong War as a story arc. I thought that was really well done. My big disappointment with Heavensward's writing was the warriors of darkness. Man did that plot ever fall flat on its face.

It was this big tease at the very tail end of the expansion trailer, then it gets hinted at again at the end of the main 3.0 story, and then total silence for 3 patches... Then we wrap the whole thing up in a single patch cycle... Wut? What happened? Did they just forget? The Nidhogg story is cool and all but wtf happened here?

Anyway hopefully their writers aren't taking ambien for Stormblood and can keep their plot lines intact this time.

Totally agree. I'm a big fan of the story, but the WoD arc was just weird. So much potential, wasted.

I actually like the original title more so than the localization title since even then you technically didn't "witness" anything since we all know they'll pull the "it's just a dream/they're asleep!" ******** by the 2nd 4.0 story quest lol.

My gripe with Warriors of Darkness for example is they had the makings of making a Divine Might style content setup because not only are they technically a reflection of "you" but they WERE "you" in XIV 1.0, which is the world they're from, essentially when you look between the lines (haven't read the NA lore book yet though.)

So while people trash on XI's quest setup, at least when the plot holes happen it was for an obvious reason (tied to content or later resolved) - the consistency of XIV's story telling is just all over. Yes it's obvious they use different writers and such, but so did XI yet it still stayed consistent excluding the mini-add ons since the main writer left XI right before Zilart.

I don't mind the self-contained storylines, but it makes XIV's world not even feel like a world. There's quite a lot loose ends that are purposefully being done so in order to get Stormblood some weight. For example some of the best story telling in XIV (1.x/early 2.x) she hasn't written for in awhile and it shows. Story is ok but, we hear about this whole dragonsong's war, then war of the magi and how Dun Scaith is this whole magical safe haven blah blah and its just wrapped up neatly like we wake up one day, take a ****, eat breakfast, set out, wrap up thousands of years of conflict and mysteries all before Lunch.

(Yes I know supposedly a lot of the storyline takes place over a couple of weeks and supposedly 2 years but the actual pacing is like it's done within a day.)

Isn't it pretty well established that the Eorzea of today is just the Eorzea of 1.0 but after some time has passed? Including how Dalamud is now in the ground and has Bahamut in it? There's nothing I've seen to indicate it's some kind of different world. Also the WoD said their world was destroyed by light. Not exactly how I'd have described the calamity.

It depends actually, since the binding coil storyline is what technically wraps up 1.x - but it was also "optional" in order to not force people who join specifically at 2.x to go through content they didn't want to, so in terms of canon storyline, it depends if "you" are a legacy warrior of light or not.

But then again, I don't do the storyline in English so I haven't read/heard some of the differences/exclusion to the dialog (the Japanese one is very straight to the point at times or have a few points or were retconned after 2.2 for example when certain soldiers in the garlean army claim to have come from areas only found in Ivalice.)

Whenever they got asked about the binding coil storyline, it always teetered between being canon and not canon. 2.0 is supposedly 5 years after the calamity, but there's no closure or explanation to that unless you do Binding Coil (basically unless your character goes through it) which is why people sort of had an issue with Ali being reintroduced into the story and the differences in dialogue you'll have based on that if it'll be plot changing or not but it ended up not being too major. The reason I say that is because at least in original Japanese interviews, Yoshida has always said the derplander and crew represents us (players) and they end up being the warriors of dark, so they're technically our reflection, but again I didn't read the english lore book, so there may be some differences, like the book's japanese release had character profiles setup differently.

I haven't read the lore book either but I think you're making a connection here that doesn't really exist. The derplander as you call him is sort of the stand-in for the warrior of light in the trailers. But just because the warrior of darkness looks like him doesn't make them the same person.

As for the Bahamut story, that was just an example the ties the 1.x and 2.x worlds together to prove they're the same world. Presumably Dalamud either doesn't exist at all or hasn't fallen out of the sky in all of the other worlds (some maybe, but not all). The fact it did here and now it's buried underground leads me to conclude that the Eorzea of 1.x is the same Eorzea as 2.x and beyond.

Weren't the WoD characters the same ones used in the title scene for 2.0?
