Getting D/C consistently...Follow

#1 Nov 18 2015 at 7:36 PM Rating: Decent
It seems to happen way too frequently for months now that I'm playing and I notice bad lag, things happening more than a second after I click. big deal lag is part of gaming. But I keep getting d/c all the time. which is very frustrating especially when queing on duty finder. It has happened as late as midnight, so I don't think too many peeps online is the problem...does ff14 just have ****** servers, or is it a problem on my end...I'm paying per month on a game that often I cant even play. dafuq. help is appreciated

Specs:
I'm on couerl server playing on my ps4 wirelessly.
My internet is ATT, I have a steady 7.5 dl speed and 1.5 or something upload (wirelessly)

Can you give your PS4 a wired connection to rule out your wireless just being ****?

not feasible. if it helps, all the other games I play wirelessly on ps4 and pc are mostly lag-free, and I watch hd streaming np. I can't even login the data center now I get error 2002. took 3 tries

It's probably your ISP not routing to their servers properly, was a huge problem early 2.0 with level3.net and so on not playing nice with verizon. Only issues i've had on PS4 and PC is the game randomly freezing.

It probably IS your ISP f'ing you here, but before you call them you want to make sure you're right.

http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/72704-Windows-Disconnection-Error-Code-2002

That's a link to a thread on how to troubleshoot connection issues. It's specifically for Windows so skip the bits where it's asking you to do things like msconfig. Focus on the router settings. Make sure your own equipment isn't blocking or throttling things it shouldn't be.

After that you're probably going to have to call AT&T and ask them to help. You said your other games were "mostly lag free," so you might have an issue on the line somewhere. FFXIV is more sensitive to lag and network issues than most products designed for the Internet.

ty for the quick replies I really appreciate it. I am on ps4 as mentioned above, so I don't think changing any ps4 settings would help...im about to call ATT and see if they can do anything. game face on!

so i called ATT, they said the only thing they can do is upgrade my internet speed from 6mbps to whatever. I have more than 7 as it is, and I don't believe this is the problem. I'm going to ask if I can test a fast speed for free to see if it works. otherwise I don't know what to do

7mbps is 875KB/sec which is ... not amazing. But unamazing as it is, it's enough to play online games without seconds of latency.

You might try running some speedtests between wherever you are and Montreal (where the FFXIV servers are) to see if you can find the bottleneck somewhere in between, and then go to AT&T with that information.

I'm running on AT&T's 6mbps service because that's the fastest they offer here. It's not a problem at all.

Soooo called SE, very helpful actually. The guy gave me portforwarding stf to do and it seemed to help a little, but not much. Called back, he did a trace route from ff servers to my ip address, and found that some info is being lost somewhere between a range of 2 ip addresses. Called ATT, not helpful. Told someone that barely spoke English the problem and she said after a long wait they made "changes" and she didn't want the range of ip numbers. The game played once again slightly less laggy, but I get d/c...Called back asking to give some other man that didn't speak good English and he basically tells me that doing something with ip numbers is out of that departments capabilities and I would have to sign up for 12.99 a month for 12 ******* months to get the technical service. **** ATT!!!! I don't know what to do but try and bother them more...

are u sure all your router settings are correct for wireless. I know u said hard wire connection isn't feasible but I would atleast do a trial one to see if a wi-fi connection setting problem

Yeah I ditched AT&T a long time ago mostly because their technical support is useless. And that was before technical support was a separate subscription fee, that's a **** move for sure.

I'd really love to rule out your wireless connection as contributory here. Do you have a laptop or a cell phone you can connect to the wifi router and then run a speedtest between yourself and Montreal? You'd want to run such a test several times at different times of the day to get an accurate picture of what's going on.
