I think there should be a crafter/gathering "end game"Follow

I've been thinking lately that if crafting and gathering are going to kept self contained that they should give us our own form of end game. A goal for us to set our eyes on. I have been stewing on how they might implement such an end game, what would it entail?

I thought back on a game I used to play, Phantasy Star Universe, that would have their own form of events a bit dissimilar to XIV. It would have the standards of course like christmas etc, however to layer on the lore it would have events unique to that world where they players could challenge themselves to greater risk greater reward temporary quests. They would also tie events into the story. Such as when mounting against a massive offensive against the enemy of that game they had series of quests carrying out various objective as such as securing areas to gather supplies, espionage missions, and defending key strategic points. Ultimately they servers success in there missions wouldn't effect the story but they gave everything significantly more weight.

That's all well and good but how does that tie in with crafting in xiv? Well I was thinking we are refereed to as "The Builders of the Realm" as crafters at times why not make that title true. Here's an example: Ice heart just destroyed the steps of faith! Ishgard needs help restoring this critical defense! They need blacksmiths to help restore their ranks weapons lost during the fight and the defensive weapondry. Armorers well for armor and metal of course! Alchemist to restore the magical shields. etc etc you get the idea.

Other examples can be, The alliance is mounting a joint offensive. Let's restore Idylshire(sp), the players actually provide the butt load of crystals we throw at primals such as leviathan(Gatherer)

Square can plan on updates based around these peaks in the story they write. Where story breaks between updates to allow this to happen. Events such as Iddylshire(sp again) restoration can have goals if reach will give it things like an aethernet and their own market boards. Rewards being scrips, maybe new recipes can be unlocked through these events. Helping restore XYZ caused the discipline to experiment into creating ABC, People who missed the event can get them later as mastercraft tomes, giving our new recipes more context.

Anyways that's my idea, thoughts?

It is interesting and SE has already done similar in both FFXI and FFXIV - For some reason Yoshida didn't want to revamp Hamlet Defense, which involved essentially what you described, Gatherers and Crafter participating in a large scale battle. In XI, it was 'Campaign Ops' where a crafter could take up some and "fortify" the towers by supplying the crystals or materials requested.

Yeah campaign inspired me a lot as it was one of my favorite things to happen in XI. It just needs to be more then, hey thanks for that item here's some scrips. Something to build towards that players who are not crafters can see and understand our contribution. Hamlet defense sounds fun.
