With some trickery you could breeze through all non Raid content and most earlier Hard Mode dungeons solo as DPS on a maxed out 60 DPS. The trickey ones are:

-Hullbreaker (due to mechanics)
-Lost City of Amdapor (Gobbue will do till bout 1% your HP which can kill you, but if you have a regen effect on a heal of some kind on you it's possible to survive)
Tamtara Hard (Mechanics)
-Satasha Hard Mode (mechanics)
-Titan HM/EX (Mechanics)

and so on. Don't think anyone complied a large list yet..but pretty much all old content you could do solo if not duo, just some that was hardcoded with mechanics that require multiple people can be tricky.

so basically what youre saying is something like me as a lvl 60 dps doing something like carrying 2 il90 50 DPSs through a place amdapor keep, turns 1-4 or Ifrit, garuda, titan hard isnt gonna happen without at LEAST having someone to heal?

Titan story/HM can't be solo'd not because of heals, but because as soon as the "last person" (or only person) alive gets put in rock jail, you lose. Thus it needs a minimum of two people. Ex needs a minimum of 3 people.

apparently chimera for relic quest cant be soloed by a level 60 dps w/o a healer either.... makes me wonder why they made undersized party now.. i just "knew" everything outside of maybe coil and Extreme avatars would be a joke to carry ppl through as a level 60 with undersized parties.

By the way would I be right if i guess that ppl who just start playing today would be level 60 by the time or before they finish the realm reborn storyline? because I have two new friends that have just started the 2. part of the story (not even done with it yet) and theyre already halfway to level 52.... yet they have 100 more quests left to complete a realm reborn and move onto heavenward... surely by then theyd be 60 right?

54 seems to be where most people land after finishing ARR - depends on whether they've bothered with all the optional dungeons. A lot of 50 content doesn't give exp right now.

well even at 54 if you add the heavenwards main quests too they should be able to hit 60 without any excess grinding in between main missions like we had too, right?

Do the gaols in story mode let you go eventually or something?

If you push the phases enough, does he even get a chance to gaol you?

Nope. Just need enough dps to kill the heart and last phase before he has a chance to goal you.

Well, there really wasn't a lot of "excess grinding" for me for Heavensward. There were stupid endless moogle quests, and having to gear up from dungeons after 55, but it never felt like a real grind to me. I took it slow, though.

But yes, getting to 54 from ARR content lets you do the absolute minimum in HW to get the first to 60, so you can save the remaining quests for the second class to 60.

Yoshi did say himself, in exact words:

"Allowing players to gain exp in 50 dungeons would be too efficient and no one would utilize the heavensward content."

Since I mean, you could get to 57 minimum by grinding North Thanalan FATEs.

And the only reason to stop there was because Vault grinding was really good.

This is the kind of thing that happens when there's no beta phase. Their internal testing just can't account for what a bazillion players will do.

57 in thanalan fates? Tell me why anyone who needs 6 million exp to level would put themselves through fates that give 12-20k per fate to level up... when running an HW dungeon 2-3 times would be faster?

NT is full of bots, though. Why grind a dungeon when you can just afk and come back to a fully leveled character?*

*I do not condone this and want all the botters banned.

Let's say the average yield from a FATE is 16k (splitting the difference between your two figures) and it takes 5 minutes to both travel to and complete the FATE. Btw that number is probably high for most FATEs with a decent FATE party. Your FATEs would yield about 192k exp per hour.

Now a dungeon gives you roughly 300k exp and takes about half an hour to do NOT including queue times. So that's 150k exp per hour.

Why indeed.

EDIT: How I math?

Huh? 300k for 30 minutes = 600k per hour.

You're right... not sure what I was thinking there. In any case that calculation doesn't take queue times into account.

Clearly I can't be trusted to math today.
