I'm 52 Machinist at the moment. Been playing pretty consistently, but maybe not as efficiently as others. I dunno, expansion is pretty fun so far. Machinist gets a lot of procs/cds so it's a busy dps job. Good stuff.

I'm only level 35 MCH and I find it's already over the top it terms of abilities and what not. You're CONSTANTLY doing something, I don't even want to see what happens as I progress to 60. I imagine most of them will become useless as things go, but it's still pretty crazy in terms of things you proc and buff/debuff. MNK has a few off GCD abilities you can spam here and there, but MCH seems to always have something ready to go.

As for leveling, I think dungeon spamming seems to be the best way to level. I did Sohm Al twice yesterday back to back (good old 9002 at the last boss the first time through) and it got me from half way 53 into 54. I can imagine later dungeons give just as much if not more EXP.

SInce last Friday (I had to work all weekend), so really only managed to play about 1-2 hours a day from Fri-Tuesday, couldn't even log in Sunday night. Then last night I put in a solid 4 hours. From that I'm 54 MNK and 35 MCH, I don't feel it's moved along slowly at all. So realistically, if someone had a full weekend off and dedicated 3 days to it, ya I could easily see 60 and far into the story with a ton of side quests done.

Wow, really? It took us a few tries but Ravanna did not seem that difficult once you figured out the gimmicks. All the Swarmians, even the casuals like Lahurah, have been clearing it no problem.

Are people really just that bad?

Yeah, generally... Its on a sort of a bell curve that is tilted to the left. From my experiences, maybe only 10% of the people I run across are really good at instanced battles in FFXIV. The majority are ok, but have trouble picking things up, and the rest are Tataru. I've been pleased with our FC though, the ones I have run with have done really great!

I had the revelation today that Tataru represents the "crafting 50 only" folks that got to Ishgard and couldn't do anything else but sit in the tavern, drink, and make clothes for people. And THAT is why you have to finish 2.55 to get into Ishgard, dammit. Smiley: motz

So far I've not had a failed run, had 5 wipes in 4 wins, one thing I noticed is healers who are on the ball can really make the difference. Now before a certain poster rips that a part I would state - my experience. This does not mean I am talking about others experience or people I've never met, spoke to or done any DFs/Hunts/Towers with. Hopefully that one poster can take the hint.

Maybe I've just had really bad luck in my df groups on that battle. The rest of my df's have all proceeded very smoothly.

There was even a dungeon where one of the bosses morphed into the T7 lamia and casted petrifaction, then morphed into the T8 boss and used his attacks. Again, very smooth. Only trouble besides Ravana HM I've had so far is on Bismark EX. Didn't do enough damage to the carapace. Item level still too low. Will try again when I get 180 chest and pants.

Yeah, largely people are bad at the content in this game and will blame lag and so on so forth. Once you run into a good group, it's smooth as butter and feels amazing to go in and knock **** out because the synergy between people is amazing. But when you run into the bad groups..largely, it's people who don't want to learn the mechanics. which is fine..but..that's mostly why the Japanese for example use Party Finder for practice and Duty finder for clears. I love when people learn quick..but despise when they refuse to learn -_-

And yes, some people simply refuse to learn the mechanics because despite what one may want to believe, "if you get the tether, take it to the tower" and you still refuse to do it after the 6th tether..you're refusing to learn the mechanic. >.>

I am level 52 right now - got some exp from doing the first new dungeon 2-3 times and some side quests. If anything, I would rather not level too fast. I kind on the same boat with Catwho in this: it is best to enjoy the current moment with all the new scenery, quests, and lore. The moment level cap is hit and all the new missions and quests complete, one loses the innocence, and the game will turn to a boring item grind (which is not specifically what I wanted). I goofed around that two-legged bug beastmen enclave yesterday, and the 6-7 bugs used me as their musket shooting target, and I had to home point, but it was fun :P

That said, I did manage to see a number level 60s in action. Literally, an "A" mob in the old world got burned down in less than 30 seconds by like 12 people (with me barely doing anything as a level 52). I will give you that is fast and efficient, but some how I feel the pre-3.0 "A" mobs were a bit more fun.

As for exp rate, it can be indeed astonishing at time (even boss fight roulette gives quite decent exp). But then, I am intentionally not taking advantage of this "benefit" for my own benefit! Enjoy when things last as it is more fun when you still know you have things you haven't tried in a game world with limited content.

53 on Eric on Summoner.

57 on Lin's Dragoon.

Haven't been posting much due to focus on entertaining guests, playing the game, medical appointments and of course discussing all the lore and plot bombs we come across and how it'll impact roleplaying in our Free Company.

Exciting, but busy times.

I'm still working toward my first 60... been super busy all week, so getting from 55 to 56 seemed to take forever. Now, I'm at 57, almost 58... Going to try to hit 59 by the end of today.

I will say this: Spam the Library not because it's the fastest way to 59-60 but because that gear will last you until you farm law tomes. You can also do quests in last area for ADS's offspring, but Library is a lot better option since the last dungeon drops no gear at all. But the ex roullete ones does.

The Library is also super easy and fun. But yes, I'm level 145 thanks to the Library. 142 is the required iLvl for final MSQ fights, or so I have heard.

It is. And depending on your server some people may not have made the level 60 gearset/weapons yet.

I honestly got to 60 with very little effort. Well 59-60 required just a tad, but 51-59 was a breeze. The MSQ and the side quests pretty much carry you all the way through. There's still the challenge log(can get about 300k from this I think) and xp bonus from the roulettes(low level) as well.

Just a shame about the music, one song I absolutely do not like. It's the first and only thing that felt like "PUT THAT THERE" because they didn't have a home for it. Only MY opinion though ;)

I reached 60 at the weekend, totally enjoyed the story line which I concluded last night. I've got flying in every zone and sort of almost finished every side quest (including the ones that have a ton of Pre-Reqs). The ones left should keep me busy for an hour or two and help get my 2nd job higher.
Not bad for pretty much all I've done in the last 7?10? days is XIV outside of work. Luckily enough I managed to batter off the other half a lot of the time who wanted to do stuff. Still have some what of a RL though (plus work mon-fri 9-5)

Have to say though SE really did do a great job on this expansion, they provided a good range of content and a lot of high quality too. Even the pragmatic person I know has been positive (which is really hard).

Hit 60 @ 7am Monday morning (6/22), total sleep time from EA on friday to hjitting 60 : 8 hrs total

As far as which is faster imo 50-60 is, as it took me longer when 2.0 came out to hit 50 (5 days)

I'm at 57, about 1/4 away from 58. It's been going well considering how little I've played in the last week. Hopefully by the end of the week I can hit 60 and finish up MCH (36). Even though I've heard MCH is far behind just about every job, I have faith SE will buff them up a bit like they did with WAR.

Honestly, MCH is only "far behind" with the people trying to play it like a bard. I don't know how many Machinists I've came cross that doesn't even use their ammunition.

MCH is actually perfectly fine, but like double bard, stacking them doesn't really enhance or push dps in any way lol. Astrologian, that's the one that needs attention. If anything, SMN actually gained a bit TOO much DPS from their new rotation which is why it seems like MCH and even WM Bards are "far behind" as they even out DPS BLMs in terms of caster DPS now.

Ya, I can't personally judge it yet since I'm nowhere near 60 with it. Just seems most players are reporting about 20% less dmg then SMN, DRG, MNK. Now a) is the job being played properly, I'd assume some top players would of figured it out by now and b) are those parsers picking up EVERYTHING. I remember when MNK came out, it wasn't calculating any of the dots.

I've only experienced a few dungeons/battlefields with them and they've been underwhelming to say the least. But that can easily be attributed to bad players/bad gear. This has always been the problem with these styles of mmos. You want a tank, you want a tank. Not a meh tank with OK dmg. Same with DPS, you want DPS not well your dmg output is ok, you kind of buff these other guys and apply dots here and there. Jack of all trades is hard to make work unless it does ok dmg and significantly buffs everyone else around them much like BRD in XI.

There's a reason WAR got crapped on when it first came about, it couldn't absorb dmg like PLD, leading to more work on the healers, leading to fails. Sure it could put out a bit more dmg, but who cares if you can't survive the instance.

Yeah, unless it's been fixed the main parser isn't properly getting MCH numbers due to not picking up their "pet" as the pet, like SMN, does a good chunk of overall dps.

60 on WHM
55 on Paladin

Leveling 2nd job is quite taxing (use up all quest + side quest leveling my WHM), I've been spamming dungeon on my Paladin now (at least the queue is fast for tank).
