I've reached around Churning Mists and its annoying quests and the writing is still terrible. The whole story is feeling like sidequest of some sort as of now. Class quests are generally dull as well (I've seen DRK, DRG, MNK and PLD, and all failed to impress me). Ravana, despite being a fun fight, made no sense in the context of the story, especially because the dragon believes he'll uphold his promise of not bothering the dragons because the plot says so. Oh, well, okay.

The flight mechanic is interesting, too bad you get it when most of the usefulness of the area has disappeared. Also the new "stronger monsters" are just an annoyance that renders moving on foot a chore, especially if you're looking for currents.

The new dungeons up to now are again corridors, and most of the boss fights are still memorization+avoid moves.

I replayed FFXI about a year ago and I pretty much had to alt tab to ffxiclopedia every 30 seconds Smiley: lol

But.. I'll always love that game.

Will always have a place in my heart but I can't ignore all the flaws (which were far too many).

Just recently signed up to Montoya's quests, some that I left and forgot about for my 2nd job. The quests give hints where to go but don't have markers, it's still some what better but still a touch of XI which is nice. Good thing is you don't have to do these quests to progress in anyway, for me they are just a bit of quick extra exp for my 2nd 60.

**** doesn't hit the fan in the story until after you unlock The Vault (level 57.) Everything else is kind of build up until then.

You think that flight is only useful once you've finished the quests in that zone, but they keep popping up like mushrooms later on, and flight is nigh on essential once you start grinding out your daily Hunts for gear, or if you want to level any of your gathering classes in those zones.

Every time I need to go through an ARR zone, I instinctively hop on my chocobo and immediately jump... only to sadly realize I can't fly in those areas. Smiley: frown
