I'm happy it's here, but anyone else noticing some weird...stuttering (not bad but you can tell something stutters kinda) at times in the 2.x areas compared to 3.x areas? Probably just my card but it's weird with camera spin at night.

I haven't noticed anything like that yet, in the 2.0 areas. I'll go check in a few and spin my camera around, but it might be something particular to your card, like you say.

Only stuttering I'm getting is on names. They flicker pretty bad, some NPC's take on actual players names. Not sure if that's DX11 or Crossfire. Though I think someone in FC without crossfire mentioned it...so...ya.

Getting audio stutters while loading in heavy congestion areas. I'll update if it's happening elsewhere.

Seems quite a few people are reporting graphical bugs with DX11 turned on. Might be needing a couple patches or GPU driver updates.

Yeah, weird shadow issues in some spots, had to turn off real time reflections to get it to go away. Going to try updating my drivers later to see. Tried on both Windows 10 and 8.1 and seems to be universal.

I've had no graphical bugs on my GTX 770, but my keyboard has been fritzing out in heavily congested areas.

My DX11 performance looks great! I'm running a new gtx 970 card with the latest drivers.

I don't notice any difference to the game with the DX11 client, personally. Nothing better, nothing worse. :/

Are the differences only applied to the Heavensward areas? (in which case I might not have anything in my head really to compare with)

You have to go manually turn on some of the new features, which are set to Off in the graphics system settings by default. I noticed a HUGE difference in floor textures when I turned on "Enable real time reflections." Cement looks like cement, carpet looks like carpet, and super shiny things look super shiny and reflect faint mirror images of the scenery above when you turn the camera. Polished marble actually looks like polished marble now! There's an overall contrast improvement in most bright or dark areas, too.

Sadly, for reasons I can't comprehend, as of now you can't use multimonitor support (like eyefinity, for example) with the DX11 client.

Is there a way to upgrade to DX11 from 9c, I'm running the game flawlessly with my GTX 670 ? The sound sputters when I'm in laughably huge fate areas. The Thanalan fates in the 40s was insane yesterday , so many people! Smiley: smile

Not to mention the alt-tab doesn't work all that great. Half the time it puts it into windowed mode and just keeps appearing on top of everything. After a couple tries it finally minimizes properly. I'm assuming with DX9 it probably works fine, but it's just a minor nuisance at this point. That and the flickering/changing names...Overall though, the eye candy from the massive maps has been nothing short of amazing. People wanted large areas to explore, and boy did we get them.

Before you log in fully, go to Configs and switch it to DX11 client. It should change the Play button to "DX11."

If your video card doesn't support it, I assume the option is grayed out. But I think 670 does.

That's odd, I did it a few times last night on Machinist. It's not the same as before, I think you have to click the item with X (or whatever your button is) then select need/greed/pass. It definitely does work though.

I also have to add that using an IME to type in Japanese has the effect of losing fullscreen for a second when you start typing, luckily it never happened in situations where a quick reply was needed (this again seems to be a DX11 only bug).

Well the NA Balmung server is going through the long list of errors today I thought it was because I switched to DX11 after the 1st time I was booted. Five hours later same errors so I think the world is full. This is the only time I hate my token the game shuts down and I have to enter everything again. Paid early access don't look so good when you cant play.Smiley: smile

Thank goodness for that. All too easy to hit that key accidentally in the heat of battle.

The entirety of Aether data center is a mess right now. All the other data centers are fine, but Aether is wobbly, primarily because of Balmung but also because of Gilgamesh.

I feel sorry for people on those servers, but there is a reason I pulled my legacy character off Balmung server. I know it's the RP server, but there are active role play groups on other servers and everyone and their uncle cramming onto Balmung over the last two years hasn't helped it at all.

It's really not that bad, and once things settle down, they're some of the most vibrant servers to be on. I'm not saying that other servers aren't as active/populated, but even at 3am, there's something going on. I don't even participate in RP but find it entertaining seeing it just about everywhere you go. It even keeps all the starter towns quite busy at all times.

It's biggest downfall (Balmung), we suck to no end at completing hardcore end-game content for some reason. It's pitiful the amount of successful groups that beat T13 prior to nerfs.

Even if you were to declare another Roleplay Server, the Hyedalyn Role-players Coalition would likely not move, which is the primary root of the RP group and the source of Balmung's RP growth for the majority.

Balumng has been the unofficial home of RP on the game ever since it was the Besaid server before the mergers, so this wasn't a sudden influx. It's been a steady growth just like any other focus group - and, honestly, it's been a boon for the server as a whole - save for the congestion.

But you figure all the server events, the largest of the FCs, the majority of the housing occupants are all Rpers. They're severely invested in Balmung and it likely won't be going anywhere. It'd actually be better to offer free transfers off for other players and officially declare Balmung what it's been pretty much for it's whole history - the RP hub of FFXIV.

I'm on Cactuar, which is on the Aether datacenter, and have expereinced a little bit of congestion getting in, but it's really not that bad. I don't mind having both Gilgamesh and Balmung in our server cluster, as both huge populations means there's always reasonable queue times for duty finder. Once the hype settles down, things will go back to normal, and we won't even notice.

Try changing the current settings of:
Disable rendering of objects when not visible (Occlusion Culling)
Use low-detail models on distant objects (LOD)

You should also disable FXAA Anti-Aliasing if you have it enabled. It is not true anti-aliasing and merely blurs the pixels between. It may make the game look slightly less sharpened but it is not the correct implementation of Anti-Aliasing you would expect.
