I posted this same thread in the Lodestone bug report section, but that place confuses me. It is sitting in the 'Insufficient Information' forum right now. For some reason I don't have permission anymore to reply or start new threads, even though I made that thread 2 days ago and I'm logged in with my security token there. Maybe one of you can help me with this situation. I originally filled out a ticket as well but got a canned response from SE about it. This is what I wrote:
I bought a Cavalry Drake from the Amal'Jaa beastman tribe before I left the game almost a year ago. I learned the item and was riding the drake around as part of my normal mount collection. Now that I've come back to the game recently, it is no longer in my mount guide. Can you tell me what happened or restore this missing mount? If not, can I get the gil to purchase it again? I even have pictures of my character riding the mount before I unsubscribed last time. Thanks!
As I said, I spent the gil to buy the mount after getting the rep from the tribe, and I learned the horn and was riding it around before I unsubbed last year. I still have the rep to buy it again, but I don't want to spend the money and I already bought it once.

Before I put my foot in my mouth, I looked at your profile and I can acknowledge that it's not in the database. At this point, I would consiter the mount lost and say buy it again.
There's a reason for me to say this - you are allowed a single item restore in your account record, if it is lost for any reason you get to chose ONE item in your game history to restore. At this point, the server likely has no record of you purchasing your mount, and there would be nothing a GM Could do to verify it was once there a year ago. They just don't have records that far back.
At this point, I'd say, save the restoration, fork over the gil (or wait till you can afford it easily), and buy it back. I don't feel as if it would be worth that one use to restore it.
I wish the policies were less strict on the matter, but given the circumstances, I imagine the GM's hands are tied just as much as yours.

Thanks for the advice. Now I'm kind of doubting that I bought it. I was certain that I had, but any screenshots of me on that mount seem to be during those dailies, where they give you one to ride and set fire to things. Maybe I didn't want to spend the gil in the first place because I was underwhelmed by the mount? It's so long ago that I'm unsure! Oh well, doesn't bother me too much i guess.
I had this happen with minions but not mounts where after SE made the switch to where the demon tofu drops and the blue bird drop rate change, I lost them from my profile and had to rebuy them only to be told that I already have them and had to contact a GM about it (took 3 weeks for the fix to happen on my account.) What you describe could very well be just during the dailies you rode them and not actually bought them since running a quick search regarding your issue I don't really see anything aside some people who were talking about their 1.x mounts (Gobbue/Company Chocobo.) It's easy to gloss over or forget because you can pull up a Screensot from 2 years ago and not completely remember all the details about it and swear up and down you had x but it was just because of an event more than likely.
So it being insufficient info makes sense because that could be a number things (you're slightly disconnecting from the game so not all of your icons are loading thus can't actually highlite the mount and so on.) Gil is very easy to make, so honestly I would say buy it and if you can't use the mount whistle item..then well, you definitely have it and they can look into your account..otherwise you truthfully wouldn't want to waste your 1 time restore on something like this.
