On our final descent into Heavensward, we can now see the icy glow of the city. Landing gear is about to be deployed. Despite the captain's pleas to turn off your electronic devices, you are playing ARR right up to the release. So what are you doing?

My weekend Goals:

1. Cap poetics. At 450 just about. This is actually a challenge to cap now. I need the black mage bracelet (upgraded to 130) and the 120 ring to get 129, which is the farthest I can make it without the t10 ring and/or the zeta/dreadwyrm staff.

2. Farm coil and horses.

Next week's goals.

1. Try my best to cap poetics. I honestly don't know what to get, so I might just start trying to cap them at this point, save a twine and a tomestone and at least 1300 poetics for the machinist 130 weapon, and spend the 700 in between on meele and heals (i.e all the other jobs idc about.)

2. Farm coil and horses when I can.

3. Collect my winnings from the triad tournament. Decide whether 200k on a turtle is worth it.

I'm busy most of this weekend, so won't be on much.

My big goal before HW, though, is to get rogue/ninja to 50. I really enjoy playing as bard, but I'm liking rogue so far and am undecided about which might be my primary DPS job going forward. My main job will still be paladin, but throughout ARR I've found great harmony in keeping a DPS job current behind my tank.

I think I'll really love the changes to bard, and I do have fun playing the job. That said, I also get the feeling that I'm just not a very good bard. I don't run a parser, but I feel like my DPS is always low and I'm not really sure why. I'm thinking maybe I'll just click more naturally with a different job. I've already got lancer at 50... and while it's a fun job, I never felt too connected with its lore. I'm really liking the rogue story though, and I also enjoy fighting with swords/daggers. I also like getting up in the enemy's grill.

We'll see, though. But my rogue is level 25, and getting to 50 while completing my poetic roulette on paladin is the goal.

I feel that way with ninja, and I felt that way transitioning from black mage to bard. I've got a rotation set now on the bard and I can balance the muscle memory.

Valk's 4 steps to bard DPS. If you read only 1 thing, read #1.

#1. Face your target whenever you can. Click to focus your aim on the target (not focus target, but the one where you lock on) and strafe into mechanics or aoe whenever possible. Autoattacks account for at least 50-60% of your overall dps, and if you aren't facing the target you are losing out. Use Barrage at a point somewhere just after you apply dots, and use it just after you drop Hawk's Eye, Raging Strikes, and Blood for Blood, and as long as you are facing the target you will do a massive amount of burst damage (x3 autoattacks boosted like crazy, so if I time it right I burst above 1000 damage/sec for a bit).

#2a. For single targets, always lead into Straight Shot first, then Internal Release (if up), then Windbite, then Venomous Bite. Do this and they should all fall off in order. When the ticker on straight shot gets down to 5, start into straight shot, windbite, then venomous Bite. Maintaining Dots counts for a lot of DPS as well (I'd estimate a good 25%). If I proc a straight shot, I usually wait on my dots to be almost ready for refreshing, and time it so I can use straight shot before the proc falls off and then apply dots right after.

#2b. Remember that if you are dotting multiple targets, just straight shot once, then windbite+venomous bite target 1, then windbite+venomous bite target 2, and so forth. Get straight shot back up when its timer ticks down. Doesn't matter what enemy you target, the crit boost buff goes to you for all enemies you hit afterward.

#3 Important to know that every dot tick can trigger a crit, and having internal release and straight shot up during dots greatly increases your chance of critting and triggering a bloodletter proc, which is an off global cooldown instant 150 potency attack (as opposed to the 150 potency heavy shot which is on the global cooldown). For this reason, fire off bloodletter as soon as you see it proc. If you have dots ticking, you could get one immediately afterward (i've seen it proc something like 4 times in a row before, all instant for 500-700 damage or so). Weave bloodletter it in between heavy shots as your dots are ticking down for maximum effect. And when Misery's End is up (enemy under 20% health) use it when you got it. It is 190 potency and hits hard.

#4. When not reapplying dots or buffing yourself, spam Heavy shot. Weave flaming arrow, blunt arrow, and repelling shot in between shots if you can (maybe 5% DPS increase there, can also weave between dot applications, but are all situational). If you have bloodletter or Misery's End up, use it immediately (see #4) then go back to heavy shot until you need to reapply dots (usually when straight shot ticks to 5, then straight shot, windbite, venomous bite).

But #1 is definitely the most important. When I learned to lock on to my target to face it, and lock off only when I need to run fast, my DPS jumped 100 per second easily.

Thanks for that! Honestly, I've barely even been using barrage, so that's a huge mistake right there.

About this:

Quote:
Use Barrage at a point somewhere just after you apply dots, and use it just after you drop Hawk's Eye, Raging Strikes, and Blood for Blood

Do you use all of those abilities at once? Or do you spread them out a bit? Or use them all at once to start off, and then just use them as they come up?

Everything else on your list, I do pretty well. I need to work in repelling shot (which I tend to not use), but otherwise I'm good with managing DOTs/straight shot. And I'm good with facing the mob. Something tells me that once I take barrage more seriously, that could make the difference I've been looking for.

My opener looks like this:

#1 !!! Lock on to target (and focus target enemy, or tank, whatever is needed for mechanics)

Quelling strikes, Blood for Blood and a Flaming Arrow starter (if I know when the tank is pulling)

If I don't know when the tank is pulling I go:

Blood For Blood
Bloodletter -> Straight Shot -> Internal Release -> Windbite -> Venomous Bite
Then:
Hawk's Eye -> Raging Strikes -> Barrage
Then:
Spam heavy shot + use bloodletter procs until 5 seconds on straight shot
Then:
Straight Shot -> Windbite -> Venomous Bite
Then:
Spam heavy shot + use bloodletter procs until 5 seconds on straight shot

Rinse and repeat. I weave flaming arrow and blunt shot and repelling shot when I can, if I am able, and reapply buffs as necessary, but often i try to time internal release with the dots, and raging+hawk's+b4b right before barrage for maximum effect. And never use barrage just before the enemy is going to become invulnerable. You need at least 10 seconds on it for maximum effect.

Barrage is the main reason for the crazy bard opener everyone talks about. You figure in the dex boost from hawks eye + the 20% boost from raging strikes + the 25% boost from blood for blood, and every few seconds for ten seconds you unleash 3 autoattacks simultaneously dealing 400-500 a piece, plus at the same time you are hitting with two boosted dots for 100-200 a tic a piece, and a heavy shot or bloodletter hitting for 500-700, you will see your enmity bar shoot up so high that you will pull hate off of tanks who haven't managed to land rage of halone just yet.

Just 3 weeks out! Time to get those last things done and prepared before the expansion hits.

I finally got my last job unlocked (Warrior) on Thursday, so that was a huge goal out of the way. Now for the remaining...

Goals For This Week:
1. Get Ramuh and Shiva Extreme done. All other extreme primals are done.

2. Do T1 one more time so I can get map completion; there's just a little sliver left.
a. I haven't done T6-8 or 10-13 yet, and I don't really care to; I've already seen the storyline on Youtube.

3. Bard and Monk are at 50, and all remaining DoW/DoM jobs are at 30. Start with Dragoon and raise it to 50 first so I can unlock the last Bard cross-class skill at 34. From there, raise Summoner to 50 if I have the time so that I get two jobs to 50 at the same time. After that, do my best.

4. Fisher is at 50, Miner at 33, and Botanist at 22. All DoH classes are at 16. I'll raise these as much as I can while at work or at home when I need a break from fighting.

5. Got my Poetics bow the week before, and will continue to work on upgrading the other gear for my Bard (i118 currently).

6. Improve my Bard playing skills!!!

That's it. Once the expansion hits, I will take a hiatus from most 2.0 content for awhile to concentrate on 3.0 content, especially raising Bard, Monk, and Dragoon to 60 (I assume there will be some new cross-class skills).

New FC and the beginnings of a new static. I'm on Ultros again and those things happened within 36 hours. Oh and T10 down.

Shiva EX and Odin both down... byebye quests.

Nearly there with my WAR. Probably be cutting it pretty close, but I should hit 50 before HW. Currently 36.

I think within the next week or two I should be able to down both T11 and T12. Might be too late for T13 but you never know.

Verdha's collecting Lights and working on crafting jobs, chocobo challenge log (3/4 of the way to rank 19), Kobold beast quests, and collecting Poetics for the Augmented Ironworks WHM weapon (carbontwine already in hand).

Waenlona will start on Archer to unlock BLM, then push BLM up some between the long term SCH activities of collecting Soldiery/Poetics (for gear and Relic books), unlocking CT, and advancing the Main Scenario quests. And RP of course.

Well, that's the plan anyway... Smiley: wink

And Kekerana is going to try to get online sometime when the friends I'm trying to connect with on that server are likely to be online too, but those opportunities are few and far between with my RL schedule.

Got PLD and NIN to 50 over the past 2 weeks. That puts Brd, War, Pld, Nin, and Sch at 50 (Smn by default, but I committed stat-wise to Sch). Going into the expansion, I'm going to prep my main classes for the push to 60.

Brd has been my main as well. However, Sch is the class that I get the praise on. Some people have a knack for certain play styles I guess. Going forward, I may make it my main in HW. But the dmg that Nin puts out is very good. We'll see, I guess.

Either way, the plan is to farm and spend poetics until HW launches. I took a long break from the game, and I need to catch up on the right side as far as gear goes. Only 100-110 for my main 5. Run WoD to complete the demon sets for Nin and Sch.

Reposted from the other thread:

Three weeks left gives me a fairly comfortable pace of 5 levels a week for MNK, completely doable.

For this week I would like to:

1. Get MNK 35-40
2. Get another left side piece upgraded on bard
3. Actually get a chocobo to a breeding level - I think I'm 3 levels away

I'm at Momocon for the weekend so gaming will be limited, but maybe I'll finish out CT and ST for my twine.

I just came back to XIV after being gone for a month due to my PS3 biting the dust. Thankfully, my wife picked me up a PS4 and XIV, so I'm just about back up and running.

My immediate goals are to get my macros and gear sets redone. Since I had no way to transfer the data, I have to start both of those from scratch.

Once I'm set with those, my next goal is to get WHM to 50. I main DRG, and have WAR to 50 for the times my LS or FC need someone to tank. I want to get WHM to 50 so I can play healer in a pinch.

After that, I want to finish the main storyline. Even before my PS3 crash, my playtime was somewhat limited; I just unlocked the Shiva fight and need to get it finished.

If I have any free time after all that I've got dailies to do and a relic to work on.

Unexpected goal achieved - We helped a FC mate pick up her beach house this morning. She owes me 3.5 million gil now, but is the proud owner of a house in Ward 5, Plot 53 of Mist.

Got really lucky - the seller was moving to Gilgamesh and relinquished the lot for 2 million gil.

1. Decided to stop spending poetics. I'm at 650 now, after this week's cap I'll be at 1550. I've been at 2000 soldiery for a while. Prepping for that heavensward rollover where they almost always convert. Going to bum rush machinist from 30-60 and at 50 I'm going to get the 130 ironworks weapon. That's a pretty good plan I think.

2. Farming coil ever now and then when I see a group. Did t11 a few times last night, got tank gloves and neck, didn't really need them. Its the dreadwyrm blm gear I need. I'm sick and tired of having 600 accuracy because every single poetics piece (except for chest) appears to have accuracy tagged on it.

3. Got my 20k winnings and my 3 crap platinum draws. So now I'm at 225k points. Decided turtle not worth it. Going to keep saving until they release something that is worth it.
