Weekly Goals and Accomplishments 1/30 - 2/6 - 2/12Follow

#1 Feb 06 2015 at 7:58 AM Rating: Excellent
We had botched software deployment and I worked 11 hours yesterday. I need a weekend.

Going to follow some of the other patterns people have and split this out in weekend vs week:

Weekend:

1. Lancer 27-30 and unlock DRG
2. Do the ST run to finish my weekly quest
3. Set up my next batch of gear for spirit bonding

Over the whole week:
1. Get a bard drop in WoD
2. Finish my WAR book, dammit
3. Spirit bond parties!
4. Buy another piece of max melded artisan's gear

I got to 2000 lights last night, so I am Smiley: lol I also finished Sylph quests, so I am done with that terrible place and those thunder-throwing flying cabbages. Also, that final sylph quest? I don't want to know that people have chocobo costumes lying around in Eorzea.

My goals:

Cap poetics. Shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Do ST and CT to finish the weekly quest.
I'xal quests! On the bright side, I should be able to use them to push my remaining 4 crafting jobs to 50 pretty easily.
Work on gathering the bits to go to the next step beyond Nexus, including dungeons.

What I may think about doing (if I go crazy):
I may, just may, start gathering atma for my Thyrus. Not sure yet.

Weekend Goals:

1. At 1064 / 2000 light. Keep pushing. All bombard cores and sacred spring waters purchased. Need to buy 1 or 2 crafting materials and then all I have is dungeons.

2. Need my WoD drop for the week. Gearing my tank and black mage in WoD, and using poetics on tank from this point forward, since all I need from bard to be BiS is A. 2500 more allied seals to upgrade my boots, B. T12 bard pants, and C. the augmented poetic bow / yoichi. T13 bow is super BiS but I don't see me getting there for a little bit.

3. With any free time run the dungeons for zodiac drops and do hunts when the getting is good.

4. Now that all sacred spring water has been purchased, it is back to spending soldiery on gearing my lowest level jobs. Dragoon, White Mage, and Scholar need to get to level 110, and the bunches of unused oil and sands in my inventory should ensure that over the next month or so that happens.

5. Watch walking dead mid-season premiere.

Next Week Goals:

1. Monday - Beat T11 and work on T12.

2. Wednesday - Beat T10 and T11 and hopefully get my tomestone.

3. Other than that, cap poetics, get my weekly carboncoat, and get my WoD drop. Run dungeons for zodiac and keep building light.

Direct goals:

- 1525 more soldiery to finish Nexus path.
- 7 more dungeons to do (Aurum Vale, Dzemael Darkhold, Stone Vigil Hard, Halatali Hard, Snowcloak, Lost City of Amdapor and Sastasha Hard).

Indirect goals:

- Weaver to 3-star by means of 5x HQ Vanya for a book and 10x tool items.
- Fill up retainers with stuff to sell for some gil income again.
- Start the new Hildi things, i'm still stuck at the Coliseum fight right now.
- Mine and Harvest for materials. Maybe fish a little too :)

I'm lumping my goals into the whole week, since I can be unpredictably busy IRL, but split out by character/server instead.

Verdha:
  1. Rank up Raindrop to 16, with some spiritbonding at the same time.
  2. Push on poetics, try to cap those quickly over the weekend probably in one massive Snowcloak spam. I really want to upgrade MNK now that WHM is high enough (i114) that most Alex maps aren't too hard to solo.
  3. Hammer Blacksmith (pun intended) through the Costa leves to push to at least 40.
  4. Run WoD the first time, and start back on a few ST runs to build up some sands again.
  5. Try to slip in a quick few Kobold tribe missions.

Waenlona:
  1. Attend the wedding to which she was delightedly surprised to be invited. Of course it will probably be much more formal than she is comfortable with, but that's par for the course for life on land, it seems.
  2. Unlock SCH, and reset ACN +attributes to MND. See if she can talk Eric into letting her study in the FC restricted library. Of course she also now has plans for a library/research room of her own... I guess that means she's finally accepted that the FC is her new "ship".
  3. Advance rank in the Maelstrom. This includes running Halitali again, this time on SCH, to get the hunting list (more) complete.
  4. Work on advancing CNJ, with the eventual goal of unlocking WHM and getting it to SCH levels. Almost certainly not going to level THAT much this week, but that's the end goal.
  5. Take some time out to improve her Fishing.

And for both of them, running some duties with their respective FC members would definitely be on the top of my Fun list. But that depends on who needs what.

You know what's really weird? For both characters, I picked the GC based on the in-game speeches and so on, exactly as we are asked to do in the cutscenes. For Verdha, it was a no-brainer -- the Order of the Twin Adder made the best speech, invoked the right aspects, pronounced the best policies, and the others were just shallow waffling fools. But for Waenlona, it was also a no-brainer -- the Maelstrom was massively inspiring, as opposed to the insipid Twin Adder and profit-motive Immortal Flames. And in each case I made no conscious effort to hear those speeches through the ears of what each character would feel, it's just that playing each one puts my head in a different space, and I heard each speech in a totally different way the second time through. That of course is why playing two different characters is more than twice as much fun as playing one.

You're describing the exact reason why I'm an alt-a-holic. Different characters for different perspectives.

I took it a step further and have each character approach the game differently with different levels of intensity. I started to burn out on PvE, so I let Lin slide to the back burner and had Hyrist take the front as the PvP character. A choice I do not regret in the least. It's so fun being tanky and disruptive. (And I've got a burst people don't suspect too, it's nice to be able to finish people off occasionally.) Hyrist defiantly has a much different playstyle than I do on Lin.

Goals this week!

For the FC/Alliance:

??? Announcements and FC developments (spoilers!)
Get some casual RPs in on multiple characters to establish a presence. I'm going to see if I can't gather the people not raiding Tuesday into some casual RPs on the side.

Gameplay:

Lin's coming out of mothballs this week to pick up some 'Poetics' (What we affectionately call Allagan Tomestones of ****.) and some pieces of gear from WoD. Also, she's the one I get seasonal gear on so gotta do the valentione's quests.

Hyrist - Grinding away at PvP rank. I say a grind but I don't mean it. I'm having the time of my life in PvP Right now and it's kind of an obsession. Which is good cause I need the drive to get to rank 40.

Eric - I've got a long term goal of getting Eric geared to go to WoD, so it's ST for me for tomes and upgrades.

Tashil - CAKE! Er- um. She's to be my Crafter/Gatherer for everything besides Alchemy and Cullinarian. I need to plan my route for her to start in on this, and I do believe it begins at getting Puglist high enough level to get a grand company. Then hoping that there's no other walls to start on Ixal quests. (This one will be fun, I'm going to try to avoid combat as much as I can.)

You'll need enough of the Main Scenario Quests to get into the GC, of course, and that includes Ifrit and several dungeons. If I'm online when those (or any non-solo combat quests) come up, Wayne Waenlona would love to come along to heal for Scrappy Cat. I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to get an all-FC party so she could do those IC. Then we could have cake afterwards.

While I wholly respect the gameplay decision, as a completionist, that sort of playstyle would be very difficult for me to adopt.

I would become extremely frustrated every time my battle oriented character needed anything that my crafter could make, but I set it up so I could only craft on one individual, and had to log out and log in and deliver to the fc chest everytime i needed to transfer anything, or I had to split up my activity across many characters so their individual progress would slow. I have a hard enough time managing one toon's inventory...

I used to have multiple characters on PSO and PSU, but your toon was restricted to one job only, so you needed multiple individuals if you wanted multiple jobs. But on FFXIV, the game itself is designed so that a multi-character sort of activity is highly restrictive to progress.

But I'm the guy who is in final coil and have no idea what I'm doing there because I haven't ever watched a cutscene Smiley: tongue

That said, I have no right to tell others how to play, to each his own, and power to all play types!

I (personally) see the FFXIV universe as allowing, if not encouraging, this all-on-one approach In Character -- one need merely note the multiple class requirements for unlocking jobs to consider that therefore multi-classing is built into the canon lore. It's a very small stretch to take it that one of the characteristics of our characters in Eorzea is to be able to hold down multiple jobs at once.

Blame the Echo, if you want to consider it unique to Playable Characters, or simply cut the NPCs as much slack as PCs in their self-description. As you know, Verdha mains MNK, goes around everywhere as MNK, and queues for DF as MNK. But she can also heal very effectively -- her iLvL on WHM/SCH is actually 114, as opposed to only 112 for MNK -- and merely chooses not to do so. She self-identifies as MNK. If anyone sees her, she looks like a MNK. If anyone asks her, she says she's a MNK. She even quacks like a MNK. But that doesn't mean she isn't good at other things, with several well geared crafting 50s, and if you catch her in certain places she's clearly a top level Fisher too.

It's no different from real people that way. I work as a computer programmer, but I self-identify primarily as a musician, and I've successfully raced formula cars, instructed at motorcycle track days and undertaken major motorcycle trips, done major automotive and motorcycle maintenance and rebuilds, raced (and built) sailboats, competed at and instructed dog obedience training, hiked many miles of moorland, fished extensively, square-danced at a fairly high level, am a passable amateur off-spinner in cricket, and worked as a pub bartender and also as a corporate carpenter/handyman. And I have played tabletop and computer RPGs since they each began. But when someone asks what I do, the answer is I play synthesizer; I dress like a rock musician, my hair is long, and I hang out in all the musician-y places. If I was an NPC, that's what you'd see and nothing else; my quest would involve posting band stickers at several places in the three cities. So I am willing to allow FFXIV's NPCs a depth of character and multiple talents too.

So for me, for both my "regular" character and my heavy RP character, I see nothing inconsistent with them both being really good at multiple jobs. It's all in how you choose to play.

No no, you're completely right in all matters of frustration.

But for me, crafting may not always be for my own characters, it may be for someone else.

You'd be suprise how quick it was to get Hyrist up to respectable PVE status even running a PvP character. Even in PvP I'm out of the 'gimp' stage and have nearly a hundred kills under my belt for about a week's worth of play.

Crafting will be the real time investment, except for me it will be more of a casual pursuit, it won't be a real asset to my characters until Heavensward, I'm just setting up the ground work for it at this point.

I also get the advantage of the 'first time leveling' quests all the way up the chain for each character leveled. I like the story, and the quests are easy to come by. Also, for a crafting class that will be working to craft my own gear, the rewards from those quest become straight gil in my pocket used to the advantage of crafting.

By the time I get up to really useful levels, I'll be one of a about five competent crafters in our FC/Alliance group.

Also, when you think about it, I'll have Four Separate inventory set ups, with separate armory chests and separate retainers. All working to my advantage. As I'm an officer of my FC, I have full access to the chest space for exchanges, if need even arises to use that rather than trade between friend's characters, which may actually be preferable at times.

There's also the customized UI for each character, for each approach to the game. My tank on Hyrist plays nothing like my Tank on Lin. The skillsets ,the macros, the positioning is different for each making each feel like their own game, instead of one game I may burn out on because the To-do list is too huge and I'm maxed out on inventory/armory space.

Instead, I play who I feel like playing, not sweat being the top notch at any of them, and have a lot of fun and profit in the meanwhile. (each has their own method to make gil, though I imagine Tas will be the most profitable of the group.

It's a touch eccentric, but it keeps the game fresh for me. And, as I'm using these characters for roleplaying purposes anyways, it becomes effective and efficient use of space I'm already taking up. (Not that it's costing me any more... Woo Legacy)

Got lancer to 30 and unlocked dragoon! Also got the BRD belt in WoD. Good start to the week so far.

Good start for me too: On Verdha, got Blacksmith to 37, and spammed a bunch of the old expert dungeons to get my poetics a roulette or two away from cap already. And I've discovered it almost rains as hard and as much in Costa del Sol as it does in Camp Drybone -- someone in the dev team I'm sure had fun doing that!

Got NIN belt in WoD just before the hotfix maintenance... didn't get to finish because of trolls.

Did get WoD and ST done to finish off my weekly... and naturally THAT WoD run dropped every piece of NIN gear you could ever hope for (no seriously, it dropped head, gloves, and body). Whatever, weekly done.

BLM is edging toward 50.. I expect it to be there by the end of the week.

Got NIN poetics body. Next piece for NIN will be feet then I'll be done buying things for that job. If I've math'd correctly, I should be able to do that after the next reset after capping.

Started NIN animus because I hate myself. Got 3 books done this week. Just finished the third a few minutes ago. I know people bag on this step but I actually really like it compared to, say, atma. It's nice to be able to just hammer the stupid thing out without having to rely too much on RNG. And now that they've made it so the FATEs don't take seventeen years to pop, it's really pretty straightforward. I'm averaging a book per day when I have the soldiery to buy them. By the end of next week I hope to have another 3 done.. 4 if the soldiery rains from the heavens.

Got Kobolds to rank 3. Amal'ja are about halfway to rank 4. Going to kind of slow roll the Kobolds this week so I can use them to help level BLM.

We took some of the newbies in the FC through Turn 1-4 last night. Cleared all of them on the first try, even though half the group hadn't done them before and many of them were going in blind. We even did the bouncy silliness of Turn 3. This gave everyone a chance to watch through the cutscenes as intended, and to knock out map achievements and such.

I'm feeling really good about our chances in Turn 5. Some of the folks in our group last night barely met the iLvl requirements for Turn 4, and yet we pulled it off nicely. (I died a few times on healer but that was kind of my fault.)

This is exactly what I need. I've been trying to break into coil, but every group in the universe seems to only be interested in you if you're already i850 and have been doing Turn 95 for the last seventeen years minimum. It's super frustrating.

Well finally beat Hullbreaker isle 29 tries for relic, unbelievable.. Then I beat Quan in one try..
Well then I find out another well thought out thing by SE not.. Very few have leveled desyth on Alchemy. So guess what? no crafting of the turn in item... Everyone obviously leveled GSM and then when on to the best for mastercraft etc. There are no materials to craft the item and there has not been any.. Now I am at the point do I want to level relic that maybe at the end of it life? is it worth spending millions on it?

Spent a little time farming coil 4...

Did some melding of artisan off hands.. Another great thing.. Not even to the last spot and it is 11 percent.. Spent hours spirit binding this week only to have every single one fail... Love your range SE.. Things should not be this left up to range, it plays to big of a part in this.

These are the weekends that make you think twice about playing.. Finally had a full weekend to play and accomplished nothing. Stuck on a quest because there are no crafting materials after spending the day (Actually a week) running a dungeon. Next you spend almost a whole day spirit bonding only to have none of the materia stick. Yea I made a few dollars selling the ones I dont need. Blah.

1. Ended the weekend at 1370 / 2000 light. 85.125 / day, still on track to have it by 2/16, in 8 days. May be slower, Mondays and Wednesdays I slow my pace due to coil, and weekends I pick up the slack.

2. Got incredibly lucky on my 5th or 6th attempt of WoD, was the only bard, bard coat dropped, picked it up with a need of 96. (The WoD chest + FCOB gloves) = (130 poetic gloves + my melded kirimu) + 1 dex. So I adjusted.

3. I'm counting dungeons now. 2 drops out of 32 total attempts so far. AK and Brayflox HM out of the way.

4. Lots of soldiery this weekend. It pours in literally. Love having all the extra sands and oils actually do something now. Wish I could trade in the 10 UATs I have lying around... Anyway, brought Dragoon, White Mage, and Scholar all up to level 105 this weekend. Getting there. Also boosted the blacksmith to be on par with the leatherworker. It's already making me money crafting the artisan's offhands... I'm doing the dailies for oaknots to make the cost negligible, but for now, buying those sealants... there is something unnerving about being in the real position to mess up and break a million gil worth of materials, and also something very satisfying knowing when the hq succeeds I'm looking at a 1-2 million gil profit.

5. Watched on Sunday. Was a very good episode. Lost a main character, but fortunately one that everyone kind of figured was destined to go.

We tried to boot a Coil static off the ground a few months ago, but we just didn't have the numbers to concistantly have 8 people available. Our current batch of XI returnees + others we've acquired are all interested, though, and we were able to do all of 1-4 entirely within the FC. It's nice too, because any gear that drops is going to someone you like Smiley: tongue

I had forgotten how annoying some of these could be. On the bright side, they are easy on CUL and that means I just swap back to the jobs I want to level when I turn them in.

Incidentally, I recommend people do that to the 40+ jobs they have if they're doing the other beast tribe quests.

Cap poetics. Shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I'xal quests! On the bright side, I should be able to use them to push my remaining 4 crafting jobs to 50 pretty easily.

I had forgotten how annoying some of these could be. On the bright side, they are easy on CUL and that means I just swap back to the jobs I want to level when I turn them in.

.

Yea they made the only two that were any challenge easier. CUL makes them really easy..
There is no challenge here. I do these everyday for sealants and they get boring fast.
They are a way to get crafting supplies cheap and easy though...
They are also awsume for those still leveling crafting especially those jobs that are harder to do...

We took some of the newbies in the FC through Turn 1-4 last night. Cleared all of them on thSmiley: tonguefirst try, even though half the group hadn't done them before and many of them were going in blind.

Hyrist is up to Rank 22 in PvP with a good shot at Rank 23 tonight.

Got Eric through a run of Sircus Tower and picked up my Boots of healing. That pretty much seals the deal with him getting gear out of those dungeons though. I need Tomes to upgrade the weapon and jewlery drops from regular dungeons, so it's likely hold on ST until ilvl90+

No WoD Drop for Lin though. Two OOC interviews and an IC interview for the Free Company on top of the normal RP events kept me busy. Doubt I will get one tonight with the other LS stuff going on.
