Hello! So I'm coming back to FFXIV, and I'm bringing a friend to try out. We're very much into RP.. are there RP Free Companies, or is it usually just restricted to Linkshells?

I'm in a roleplay Free Company on Balmung named Dark Embers. We're an LGBTQIA friendly RP free company that does adventure plotlines as well as casual. We have a fairly comprehensive raid system that helps out players needing assistance while maintianing a static that pushes content. We're a warm bunch with many of us loving a our puns a bit overly much.

If you'd like to check us out, our website is as follows:

http://dark-embers.enjin.com/

On the site I am Lin Celistine, one of the Dark Ember's Officers and storytellers. If you wanna join, have you and your friend apply and we'll be glad to get to know you some more!

Now that I'm done pitching myself, allow me to give you the Roleplayer's resource on FFXIV

http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/

Balmung and Gilgamesh are roleplay servers, Balumung having history with it since 1.0, but being a fairly difficult server to get into due to only having windows open from about 4:30 - 7:30 AM EST.

Hydaelyn Role-Players Coalition is a nice one-stop resource for roleplayes. Role Player Free Companies and Linkshells often list their websites there. There is a wiki that catalogs player characters if they so wish to create an entry. And there is often warm welcomes and deep roleplay discussions (even if they do not always agree) about lore, character development, and general FFXIV things.

I hope this is helpful for you and your friend and I look forward to see you, in application, the server or just around the RPC!

Oh? No that was never the case.

New characters can be made on Legacy Servers, it was that Legacy Characters could never transfer to non-Legacy servers, until about six months after release. Such situations have now resolved and it's mainly a matter of sever population and availability. The term "Legacy" at this point is just a remembrance of what was.

That said, Balmung isn't easy to get into due to the fact that it's a highly active, highly populated server; one of the top five if I remember correctly.

You can transfer and roll there if you get in during the typical windows, which is usually right after a maintenance or in the wee hours of the morning.

RPC has changed hands, and it is now being ran by FreelanceWizard, but it's still very much the same. Just that the previous owner did not have the time to manage it. Other than that, it's grown in some ways and shifted in others as some of the older players have less availability, or have moved on from the game.

I'm here if you have any more questions, about the server, RPC, or my Free Company. (Side note, I forgot to mention we even have an Alliance linkshell for those who wish to join us for raiding or roleplaying without the full on dedication to the free company itself.)

If I may.. are there servers specific to RP? I know it's like that in the SW MMO.

Not in any official capacity, you'll likely find some light pockets of RP activity across many servers. However the RPC particularly focus on Balmung and Gilgamesh in particular, Balmung as the classic unofficial RP server, while Gilgamesh serves as an alternative for those who, when the game was new, did not want to roll on a Legacy Server for fear of an already established economy.

Of course I'm heavily biased towards Balmung for obvious reasons. I can't speak for Gilgamesh from a personal perspective, you'd have to ask someone in the RPC about that. I'd rather not give you information based off hearsay.

If I may ask. Do you and your friend already have an idea of what sort of character and class you wish to play?

I'll prolly be starting as a miqote.. prolly a conjurer. He's still undecided.. he says there's so many fun looking things to play! lol.. but I think he's leaning towards offensive magic stoof.

*eyes light up*

We are most defiantly looking for healers! Not just in roleplay, but for group play in game as well.

As far as offensive mages go. Black Mages are for large burst, and Summoners are for Damage over Time. Summoners also share the same levels/class with Scholar which is a healer if he wants the flexibility.

And Miqo'te is a popular race! We've got a good number in our group.

Balmung, in general, seems to be a heavy role play server. Its fairly common to see folks engaging one another in character just about everywhere. Add to that, I'm in Hyrist's RP/Endgame shell. They're good people. I'm also part of crystalline-rp.net, though they're more RP centric. Dark Embers would be a good shell to both have progression AND RPs mixed into once nice bundle. Kind of like a fast food value meal, only one that doesn't kill you (unless you order a Titan EXtra Large).

Balmung doesn't have restrictions on new players, per se, but at peak hours the server does close off character creation. Best time to make a new character on our server is off US peak hours, when the server isn't as populated. It'll be late into the night depending on time zone, but I assure you, it'll be worth it. There's occasionally some (rarely) RP talk in dungeons (when people bother to speak), but i havent encountered anything even slightly like that in this game. Outside of the miqo'tes who run the cat brothel in the mist on my server ofcourse.

I saw a lot of this in XI, heck, i was even a part of one in XI, but XIV just isnt the place for it really. People arent overly social in here. Entire towns are just quiet or filled with a shout for whatever Tier of stuff they need. The people on my friendlist have mostly been people i knew from XI, or people that befriended me after i helped them with something and i felt it would be rude to reject them. None have been from random conversations...

I think XIV just hasnt reached that level yet. Maybe once everyone is done with endgame, there's no frequent updates anymore and people have grown bored will the social aspects and roleplay bloom up to keep things interesting. Right now, whenever you say something roleplay'ey you either get ignored or get commented on :/

I'm currently on Balmung and it's definitely active in terms of RP. I don't partake in it myself, but do see it happening around me all the time in starter towns and Mor Dhona. The server is incredibly populated which I enjoy and which should help finding an RP FC.

As was mentioned above, logging on between 3-6am EST seems to be the time to try and create a character. Good luck!

It's better to get up than wait up from my experiences. Meanwhile I'd say roll on a server just to get a feel for the game and not to be too frustrated.

If you have some means of contact, it might be possible that some groups (including Dark Embers) may be able to alert you when the server opens. A lot of us need to create Alts so I'm sure a few of us are willing to be up to check.

Sent a rather large reply ^^; I might take copies of that to see if we can update our 'About Us' page in our FC cause... yeah we show off some of what we could have to offer more.
