Because, like, all that money will go DIRECTLY into development of AESOME new content.
Like, for example, a tinfoil hat for your chocobo.
That comes with a "LEET" sticker for just $5 extra.

It's charging for something that's 100% non-essential, with a way to do it for completely free. Meh.

I believe they mentioned housing would not be shared awhile ago, as well.

It's a nice that they're making it sound like it's not that much, like it's "10 per person" or "20 per person".

No, it's not. It's 20 bucks or even 40 bucks for a white chocobo and a dress >.>

Carefully hidden under a thin veil of "If you love her enough you should pay for it or she'll hate you", which hits us gamers for critical damage every single time.

I can guarantee you a lot of people are going to pay for the extra content. Especially since you both get a mount and a fancy glamour outfit.

A lot of ladies I know are dropping $20 with no plans to actually get married. They just want the dress!

(I kind of skipped out on my own RL wedding planning and we did justice of the peace while I was wearing a $60 dress off the clearance rack. This content was not made for people like me, haha.)

There are a lot of people who are going crazy planning their weddings and such. It's adorable to see the XIV Facebook stream right now.

As far as housing they said they had the ability and would look into it..

Nonessential to you and maybe how you play the game but not too some others. Not everyone plays the game the same and before FFXIV was launched they said there were going to be many ways to play this game other than just combat... Some people collect minions so putting them in the store hurts the way they play the game, Some people collect mounts.. Just because the stuff put in the store doesn't affect the way you get through coil doesn't mean it does not affect the way others play the game? Some people like to craft and do vanity stuff. Putting that stuff in the store with other loot hurts the way they play the game.
Why do people do coil? for the loot. Same thing.

More stuff is going pay faster than anyone thought..

Tes and I met during FFXI and were looking to get married in this game so this does affect the way we play the game..
Tesee wanted the mount, I think the real problem is they are starting to show off all this stuff like the mount and then going latter you now have to pay for it, Why did they didn't they say it was going to cost money when announced?,, It is cheap way of doing business by getting people hopes up and then go well its going to cost you money.. Why didn't they say it right off the bat it was going to cost money.

We also wanted to share the house we split. What is so tuff about allowing her to give me access to the choco stable, mender, garden etc. the ability is already there.

1) You can still get married, for free!
2) You can get the minion without paying a dime. Just go as a guest to someone's wedding who did pay.

Here are the two general ones I watch:

There are also server specific groups for every server.

Opted for the 40 dollar wedding just because. More than likely it’ll be just me and my RL wife there, but we really wanted to go all out… And I knew my wife would be a sucker for the wedding dresses.

In FFXI I was a mithra so we never got the option to marry. I had to do all I could to make it up to her this time around.

For us it is just about the fun of doing this together.

The family that plays together...

Can't hate on that one bit.

Also, I totally get the whole paying for it thing. As someone who wouldn't marry another character in a game, I also envy the mounts and stuff. I choose not to get married and with the excessive stuff costing a fee, I'm not butt hurt because getting married isn't the only prerequisite for the cool stuff.

That SE is charging extra for premium versions of eternal bonding isn't too surprising. It just seems to be the way the game's been heading. I'm still not a fan, but it's nothing new.

Although it does seem noteworthy that from what I've been reading, some of the items included in the premium packages can actually be traded to other players. And also exclusive dyes that can supposedly be bought from the store and traded in game? If these are both true, then as far as I know this is the first instance where you can directly buy something from the cash shop and sell it for in game currency. This seems significant because it would mean that rather than cash shop users simply gaining access to cash shop exclusive items, they can potentially gain an advantage in absolutely everything in game related to the economy, from aesthetic items like housing, furniture, and in game minions to items that could aid the player in progressing at a faster rate like a full set of the best crafted equipment with high level materia melds. Not that this is an entirely new concept, there's other games that allow players to get ahead in game through the cash shop (GW2 and Warframe are some recent examples) but I know there's a decent portion of people who'd prefer that cash shop is not directly linked to the game economy, especially in a pay to play game.

I think this was actually an honest programming mistake on SE's part. What they wanted was for one party to be able to purchase the in game items, then give their to-be-intended the matching one, sort of like an engagement bracelet. Unfortunately, they failed to account for people quickly determining that they could exploit this by selling the in game item to others for gil. The EASY solution to that is to limit the maximum sold per account to 2 for some period of time. But there's no perfect solution.

I'm wondering if that was addressed in last night's maintenance.

There are people shout selling that you can be bonded to them for a price. The person I asked last night wanted 100 million Gil. This could be a problem.

For that much gil I'll plunk down the $20 myself. Smiley: dubious

I think that any game that has a following as big as FFXIV would be crazy not to offer some premium things for a fee. As long as they don't affect gameplay in any way (the only thing I can think of right now that do are retainers) then I'm all for it.

Still the only thing I have purchased from there aside from my two extra retainers is a $1 pot of metallic red dye.
