New jobs! New big zones! Lvl cap raise to 60! New original FF XIV primal! New beast tribes! New FC Airships! KOTR! New playable race!
Lots of good info coming from fanfest right now.

New Expansion due out next year. I believe it said spring 2015. There will be more info about new jobs next week during the london fan fest.

Edit: playable race, not races.

I hope the new jobs are thief (i know its not gonna happen) and Samurai, hmm I wonder if KOTR will be a weapon or Summon, and lastly i hope these FC airships are flyable otherwise I dont see the point lol

It said "New Massive Zones". Also The new city-state Ishgard. And it is huge.
Also, the FC airships are built by the FC. I'd imagine they will fly.

Know how Yosida is taking...let's say artistic liberties with the FF mythos and such, KoTR will be a group of NPCs we only care about for part of the expansion then never hear from them again.

FC airships will likely be "Flyable" in the sense that it's a glorified cutscene where you can select options on where to go - He stated they can't do "airship flight" akin to or even better than FFXI in XIV ARR.

He did, just in terms of airships he said technical limitations of the engine doesn't allow it without some kind of revamp..so maybe they figured it out.

This stood out to me the most. I know that SE has been recycling much of the lore of the FF universe, but I really wouldn't mind seeing some more original content for Eorzea. I think we all understand that they're limited in what they can do given the direction they've been forced(mostly) to take, but I would really like to see them expand in this area.

I guess it's always nice to have confirmation that zones, races, jobs and things like that are coming. I'm actually looking forward to hearing about something maybe we didn't expect...

Honestly, this news makes not want to play. With any progress I make becoming invalid in a few months, I'm not feeling particularly motivated.

I'm just curious... what is it that would keep you playing?

If the system remains as is, there's always bigger and better to move on to. The motivation should always be that you enjoy playing the game. There may be any of several reasons why you enjoy it, but if you only enjoy it for progress you make contributing to an ultimate goal; this wasn't the game for you anyway. If the system were to move away from constant progression that scales as more is added to the game, people would eventually get to that ultimate goal, grow bored and probably quit.

ARR has been on the progression path for quite a while now. It shouldn't be a surprise anymore that gear and items you earn now may not be as sought after some weeks or months later. If that's your main motivation to play than I don't really blame you for questioning your decision to play ARR, but it's not likely to change unless SE decides to stop developing content for the game well into the future.

You can add new stuff without making everything prior to it...worthless. XI ran for 8 years without negating every single content prior to a new update. It's along the lines of: "Why should I do anything when next update will just negate all of my work? Especially an expansion? It's called expansion pack, not Recession of "Makeallyourprogress worthless" Pack.

Thankfully though, 3.0 is the start of new designs and revamps, so hopefully they move away from WoW and more towards...well, trying to actually be something better than a half-assed WoW clone in areas.

While it's hard to believe what Yoshida says a lot of the times, he himself said he wants to do revamps on systems, including battle/armory system. He did say though it will NOT be an overhaul (which is needed) but it will be something to basically accommodate new classes/jobs because he realizes they designed themselves into a corner.

Clearly, some of the idiotic among the posters haven't thought through what a level cap increase means. There is a huge difference between small incremental updates every couple months that slowly raise the bar and and the massive change that comes with ten more levels.

New levels, means more grinding out the levels, followed by new gear. That means anything you do on a level 50 that generates EXP is a waste. That's EXP that in a few months could be used to help level up. It also means that any gear you get now will instantly be obsolete. Level 60 hits and your best stuff becomes old news. If you've already played through the storyline content and are on the gearmill, you might as well not even play, because none it will matter once the level cap raises.

This is one of the biggest problems with upward instead of sideways progression. But you know what? Go right ahead and defend the hell out SE and stupidly question my motivations, but don't come here ******** about these issues once the expansion drops and you finally get a clue. I already beat you to it.

#19DuoMaxwellxx, Posted: Oct 18 2014 at 5:23 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Its called experience, games have had expansion packs since as long as they have exist on PC, what did Doom and Duke nukem expansion packs do? Add a million more maps enemies and weapons but the core game was unchanged... in the case with Doom you still couldnt jump, aim up and down etc etc, same with FFXIs and WoW expansions, the core gameplay is exactly the same as igt was at launch, expansions only added more areas, bosses and stuff of that nature, exact same game just more areas to explore and things t kill, you didnt have to learn how to play the game all over again with any of the expansions, expansions merely just do the exact same things the bi/tri monthly updates do just on a much larger/grander scale. In otherwords if soeone didnt like ARR before the expansion isnt gonna do anything to change those people minds...

Point blank: This is the wrong mentality to have.

If going through content is being equated to 'work' then people are not enjoying it regardless of whether their reward lasts a week, a month or 10 years. If you're looking at playing a game as 'work' then progression isn't for you. Again, it's a constant climb rather than making progress toward an ultimate goal. I'm not trying to convince people to quit, but you have to understand that you're on the treadmill. If you don't enjoy walking without going anywhere then you should probably step off or try to find new motivation to continue.

Turin, with all due respect, did you not see this coming? I've known since beta that once the level cap rises, the lvl 50 ixxx gear will become irrelevant. If this was going to be a make or break for you, you could have saved yourself a year's worth of wasted time, rather than knee jerk reacting to news that hasn't come as a surprise to anyone who has played MMO's before.

The gear may become irrelevant when the expansion lands, in 6 months or whatever time, but it is completely relevant now in order to complete the content we actually have. If that isn't good enough, then perhaps your decision to stop playing is the right one for you. For me, I will continue gearing up at my admittedly slow pace, and then enjoy the fact that when the cap rises I can rapidly increase in ilvl to challenge the new content that gear is designed for.

You can add new stuff without making everything prior to it...worthless. XI ran for 8 years without negating every single content prior to a new update.

I see you're still butthurt. You should get over it, honestly. Stop acting like a child lol. You'd have a much better time getting rid of that butthurt :) P.S I didn't say that's what I wanted, thus proving you're absolutely butthurt for no reason.

If you've been paying attention, everything FFXIV has to offer still has some use to it. Even the lowest level FATEs can be used to improve your relic weapon. I don't think any content has been cast aside or made obsolete. Sure every update offers more weapons and more gear to collect, but that's what MMO players want. There's no point in collecting gear if there's never anything new to go after with it. And even the old gear can live on as glamor pieces if you were particularly fond of it or used to boost your retainers.

Yes, but it matters now. The expansion is still probably six months away. Just because all the level 50 gear will be obsolete eventually doesn't make it worthless. Even if you won't need it tomorrow you still need it today.
