you think SE will ever riase the crafting level cap or bringout higher level IL crafting gear? honestly thats the one thing I hope they never change especially with all that gil put into melding materia to the current gear it would suck to see that all go to waste just to have to do it again on a new set of gear... if they do anything I hope they only keep coming out with new recipes, headgear and primary tools only

I think it's safe that it won't change until they raise the level cap for the expansion. We don't know when they will release the expansion yet though, so it's going to be a long while. We can expect some news at the fan festival events this fall. It's only natural that they would increase the level for crafting classes at the same time they would the battle classes.

i doubt theyll increases crafting level cap i mean FFXI eventually raised job level but crafting levels always stayed the same, and since crafting isnt a "huge focus" in this game (supposedly) that gives me more reason to believe they wouldnt or shouldnt raise the cap.

That's because crafting wasn't it's own actual classes like it is in ARR. I can pretty much guarantee you they'll increase all class caps at the same time. It's just common sense when the armory system is built the way it is.

Also, keep in mind that XI's cap was 100. It was 100 even when the level cap was lower. Completely different system that is not even really comparable to what we have here.

also on the subject of level cap increases do you think theyll increases the level caps for ANYTHING at all? I mean I honestly dont see a point when your gear "levels up" i.e il70 il90 il100 il110 etc etc, theres really no point in a level cap increases when gear works that way (which wasnt the case in FFXI until AFTER the final level cap was raised hit i.e lvl 100), rather redundant to raise the level cap when gear at 50 already makes you far stronger than someone who just hit 50 in their AF gear despite the fact that youre the same level

Is it necessary? Probably not. Will it happen? Almost guaranteed. WoW is the same way with gear progression, it's almost entirely vertical progression, yet they keep increasing the cap. It's a safe bet to say that will happen here as well. Also keep in mind, there is a pretty severe penalty to accuracy and overall damage when engaging mobs more than 3-4 levels above you, so if they increase the cap, you'll notice a vast difference between level 50 and level XX players, far more than what gear alone does.

I suspect that when they do, one of two things will happen:

1. They'll adjust the star system, so that current starred items will no longer be started, and new items will be added that are 1-3 stars
or
2. They'll add something else beside stars to indicate the new "very tough" recipes. Hearts? Spades?

They could just add MORE stars, but they'll start to run out of real estate and it can get kind of confusing since they're only a visual representative. Maybe four star items, but not five or six.

The crafting level cap in FFXI was raised to 110 with other crafts able to be raised to 70 before spending mastery points.
