I've been moving around and leveling several different classes to try and get a feel for what I like. I finally decided on working towards a Black Mage. I am currently level 25 on my Thaumaturge, and have noticed that every single quest reward I have ever been offered has been Strength or Mind. Also noticed while playing Archer or any other class they are always these two stats. So my question is this, is this intended, and I am required to buy gear for classes outside these two stats while leveling, or is something wrong?

Gear you get leveling up isn't too significant. Just focus on leveling up and take what you can get from quest rewards and dungeons for now. Later on you get more specific gear catered to your class.

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.

In the case of THM and BLM, the stats you really want to focus on later on are INT and I think critical hit rate. But mostly INT.

Exactly right Intelligence is what A BLM should focus on..
MND is for WHM
Strength would be useless for a mage really...

Most low level clothes offered through quest usually give you a choice either between DD or mage clothes.. Mage gear usually has both stats: mnd and int. It is not always the case but I found it to be true pretty often. Most of the guild quest for THM should offer gear for you and dont forget to do them.. They re what give you your spells and some decent gear.

Most dungeon gear will be better than quest gear and so will grand company gear.

It depends on the type of quest. Side quests and the main quest will give you varied rewards, but class quests will give you the reward suited to your future job. Try taking on the quests in the thurmaturges guild to get some quest rewards with INT.

I have done as you suggested every 5 levels. Even the class quest rewards are giving me mind gear.

Most pre-50 caster gear has both INT and MND on it. The only exceptions I can think of are some weapons and accessories.

Most (not all) low level quests also offer an Allagan coin reward which you can sell to an NPC for gil. If none of the rewards are suitable for your class, you can always get the cash prize and put it towards something you'd rather use instead.

But most low level mage gear has both INT and MND on it. Extra MND doesn't hurt a BLM so it's no big deal if it's also there with INT.
