I mean now that w have non relic weapons that glow... do you think SE will do something new to upcoming relic upgrades to make them stand out in looks from the other weapons now that theyre not he only weapons that glow?

In future upgrades, perhaps. Maybe they can add some glitter to the glow, or maybe make it change to rainbow colors? Maybe make the entire thing transparent, as if it's made of magic or not quite in this dimension any more.

I think weapons suffer from a "cool overdose" factor in XIV. iLvl 60 or 70 weapons already look way more epic than some higher iLvl weapons. Thankfully we have glamours to compensate for that, but I'd kind of like people to SEE a weapon I've worked hard on, and not just have a random drop from a HM dungeon over it.

exactly/.. I mean even in XI we didnt have glowing weapons (thank god.. i wish this game didnt have em either) but the level of detail and designs on the relic weapons far outshine what every other weapon looked like... they looks unique enough on their own without some fancy "glow" o set them apart

Thats because instead of using completely different models a lot of weapons simply had a pallet swap. Relic weapons were some of the only weapons to not have their models shared with anyhing else, or at least they dont look like they do. This was a nice trick to give us a much larger variety of weapons. It takes time to build a model from scratch. Ffxiv already has many diferent model of weapons but we have fewer of them added each patch because of the time it takes to build new models.

I do believe we will eventually get new model relics but when that will be is anyones guess.

Unless I misread it, I'm pretty sure I read that Yoshi's plan is to have the current relics end their upgrade paths just before the expansion at which time I would assume the "next generation" of relics will be introduced.

I hope not I wouldnt want to put all the work into a relic just for it to "stop" and we start allover again on a new generation of relic? Why not just continue the existing relic and turn IT into the start of the new generation of relic?

UNLESS this new generation of relic will be so hard to get/time consuming that not everyone and their mama will be running around with one until theyr eat LEAST two years old... but i know XIV isnt gonna take that hard core approach (though theyr egetting pretty close to it when the new crafting tools... If i did the math right It would cost 50mil to buy all the demimateria needed to get the il70 tool for ALL crafts lol

Nearly everything you've worked on has been or is about to be replaced by better things when you get right down to it. As I've said many times, this game is like a hamster wheel. It's a never ending progression where you work on getting better gear so you can work on getting the next set of better gear.

That said, it's also why I'm cooling to the idea of working on my relic weapons too much. It's a lot of work for something I will likely put aside someday. Some of those alternative weapons look a lot more appealing to me because of that.

Well yeah i know old weapons/armor gets replace by new weapons/armor thats how MMOs work... but those armor/weapons in question are usually drops... not a weapon thats obtained from a quest line thats been ongoining for a year+ thats just gonna stop and.. the end.. that would be dumb. At least if youre gonna do that make the final quest offer a reward that made all that work worth it... like as jumpstart on the next relic weapon quest... a crap load of gil.... something

I wish each upgrade looked different so you could tell them apart.
