I'm surprised we don't have a Frontlines topic yet. Soooooooooo fun!!! And now that the queue issue is fixed, I love it even more. I'm almost capped on Soldiery via Frontlines alone and have enough myth for my next atma book, and I haven't even made a dent on the one I'm working on right now!

But yeah, I'll start off with a question for everyone. Do you have a Grand Company that just dominates any matches you're in when you're around? For me, it's always the Maelstrom that wins 90% of the time. It's becoming expected in my FC and LSes for me to shout "CURSE YOU MAELSTROM!!!" whenever I get out of a match. It's almost enough to make a guy defect...but I love my Immortal Flames too much lol.

Feel free to post your experiences/war stories/awesome moments here, I bet there's plenty of them!

It's been fairly random, as usual the side that communicates is the side that wins... unless everyone is communicating, but this is the internet so the odds of that happening are slim ^.~

Supposedly in my server group the Adders are the ones that dominate. But the two I did last night were a Maelstrom win and a Flames win. So I dunno.

Either way I had fun. Very happy that the pvp unique skills are available to everyone there. Do wish the CD's were a bit lower. Full Swing done at the right time let's me pound a clothier down in 3 GCD's, but then I'm left chasing another half dozen targets for three minutes without actually being able to kill anything.

But that's a minor issue really. There tends to be enough people that it's not a big problem.

I've only tried it once on the first day of the patch, but it seemed like it was Operation Kill the Healer First the entire time. My party wasn't much help to me though since bards would happily chase me to the ends of the earth unchallenged while the party complained that I wasn't healing them enough.

I didn't expect to be an expert the first time in, but felt if even one monk started wailing on a bard, she'd probably freak out and leave me alone. At least then I'd be getting somewhere. I'll have to see if I can find a guide for tricks and tips, or at least a good "save my butt!" macro Smiley: lol

Yeah, doing pvp in this game as a healer is like painting yourself with target reticules. I got tired of it pretty fast.

And yep, people will inevitably ***** about you not doing a good job, nevermind the fact that a lot of the time you will be completely stunlocked from full HP to death and not be able to do anything.

First rule of fight club: Kill the guy in the dress.
Second rule of fight club: See rule #1.

I love being a healer....anywhere but PvP.

The successful runs I've had, the healers hang way back. Really the healers that aren't alone are really hard to kill, considering the other players will stun or bind you as you get close to the healer (assuming the other players aren't just looking for huge dmg numbers and kills at the end). Stay near the 3 main bases and with your group. If your group wants to run off one by one to die while trying to take something, let them go die. Unless the majority of the group communicates that they are going after a target you should hang back.

As a healer in pvp, my window of action is very small before I die.
On the other hand, I get the same rewards as everyone else on my team regardless of how much i actually contribute to the cause.

Not much room to complain on the face of it.

Well that was fun for a while. I did a few rounds today though and the strategy seemed to be "bring as many WHMs as you can for heals and holy spam so no one can possibly kill your team." That's not so much fun for everyone else...

I lost every match today because opposing teams would ride into a base with 4 or 5 WHMs. How can you compete with that?

You can't. One healer sucks. 8 are unstoppable.

As healer numbers grow, the ability for the enemy to kill them becomes much harder. Regen/Medica II stacking, Aqlodquim/Lustrate/multiple auto-healing pets, combined with decent CC in Repose/Holy and Miasma snare means healers are the ultimate large-scale pvp class.

Something will have to change, because right now the side that brings more healers, to the exclusion of all else, is the side that wins. I'm guessing role caps would be the best idea. No more than 1/3 of the pvp group can consist of the same kind of role, or something.

It's rediculously unballanced yeah.

It doesnt matter how many DPS you bring, all that matters is the amount of healers. Even 3 healers over 2 make your team the stronger one.

They should limit the amount of healers/tanks/dps back to set numbers, or this rediculousness wont ever stop :/

Bad thing about frontlines is that the morale stat is ignored, so pvp gear is completely worthless...in pvp. All it is good for now is den and glamours. Too bad glamours don't work in frontlines...which is a shame now that they have actual given us a way to get our hands on some of it without selling our souls.

That's the only thing I have to say that is negative about it though. The tome reward is insane, the ques are not a problem anymore, and the battles are just plain fun. I guess I don't so much like that when I que as a bard, I end having to change to a healer or we won't even have 1 sometimes, but that is kinda just a minor annoyance if anything.

I personally enjoy frontlines. Got about 10 victories under my belt, 90 more for the horse, lol. Stacked about 14k wolf marks and hit rank 19, and I dont really play it that much. It is a great way to cap myth and soldiery, especially now since all you have to do is mark "join party in progress" and you get in guaranteed within 5 minutes (sometimes instantly, even on dps).

Good stuff overall. Nice addition.

Fought a very organized team. Tanks harassed mages, BLM focused on CC, the two healers stayed behind and covered each other as well as the party. Very well organized, executed like they had done it many times before. It was impossible for me to get an in without being collapsed upon, and even if we did get someone down, the healers were quick to raise. It was fairly incredible.

Would love to have a group like that myself but... diving our free company on Grand Company Lines made it kinda impossible.

The worst tactic other than healer stacking at the moment is an all healer party up at Heli and they all stand by the stairs and wait for large groups and punt them off for mass kills. It's pretty cheap and needs to change.

*EDIT* Last time it happened, we were able to fake rush and have both healers waste the knockback and them we charged in and kept them silenced and locked in place. The others came over and managed to push most of us off that couldn't get our backs to the rocks in time.

FYI Seeing a lot of people that don't realize there are separate actions and bonus stats for PVP that are still in effect for Frontlines, considering a lot of people are doing this that didn't do PVP consider this a friendly reminder. (Had a fellow BRD ask me how the hell I did a knockback, which led to a conversation and more than half of the Alliance having no clue what I was talking about)

I have a question for pvpers playing on a gamepad.

Up until now I've only had PvE abilities on the two cross bars I use. With the addition of these news abilities, and consequently a 3rd cross bar, I'm finding that where once I could instinctively hit any ability without giving it any thought, I'm getting thrown off by having a whole other cross bar to cycle through. So how have you handled adding the litany of PvP abilities to your cross bar, without letting it affect the speed which you cycle through and activate your skills?

It makes me wish PvP had its own cross bar, not shared with open world or dungeon PvE, that way my instincts aren't thrown off.

I haven't been back to try this event, but it sounds like it's getting pretty good reviews. I didn't care for the PvP that I did get to try in XIV(mostly due to combat system issues), but it's nice to see that they have been able to find a way for PvP to be engaging outside of the standard arenas.

Maybe try making a new gear set with it? I know that allows you to change skill positions based on class/job. Not sure if it would work on gamepad though.

Anything that I need to cast while running (scathe, lethargy) I assign to the buttons.

As a blm in pvp, I always have Fire III, Fire I, Blizzard III, and Macro for Swiftcast flare on the R + buttons.

The R + directional pad I have my long cast sleep, manawall, the aoe pvp spell, and fire II.

On the L + buttons I have the pvp instant cast sleep, the pvp non-elemental targeted attack, scathe, and lethargy. (scathe and lethargy are awesome in pvp!)

On the L + directional pad I have the limit break, the pvp skill that allows me to cast for a time without interruption, my cure spell, and my pvp skill that removes debuffs.

I set sprint as an all job skill, on PS4 it is on hotbar 8 (i think) and I get there by holding L trigger, then pressing R trigger and one of the buttons.

Sorry I dont know the names of the pvp skills, I memorize them by the icons and what they do.

Agreed, I don't know the work around for game pad... but on PC I just set two more vertical bars to the side of my horizontal usual 3. I have them on invisible and then only used the bottom slots so it's like horizontal extensions to the other bars. I can't imagine doing it with more than one class. Guess I'll have to read up on some pvp guides.

Use the extended crossbar controller option. It makes it so when you are holding R2, and then also hold L2, it brings up page 2 of your crossbar without having to hit R1 a couple times to switch bars. It's pretty slick, and once you get the hand of it, you'll never need to use the R1 button in combat ever again. I place all of my CD's on page 2 now, then just splice them in effortlessly between skills on page one, just by holding both shoulder buttons down. Works just as good in PVP.

Frontline was a lot of fun. I did it repeatedly until I maxed out my tomes. My best game I gave 51k damage, with no heals from anyone. My worst game? Where is everyone? oops found the enemy and died.

Also, a few times, the enemy would stay right outside our spawn site and mow us down. Unfair.

Other than that, loads of fun. I highly recommend it, and that's coming from someone who stayed away from pvp before this.

Cheers!
