XI is on sale at SteamFollow

#1 Jun 20 2014 at 12:24 PM Rating: Good
You can get the Ultimate Collection of FFXI, including the latest expansion Seekers of Adoulin, on sale right now.

For the XI folks who quit when Abyssea came out, I encourage you to try Adoulin. It has some of the things we loved about ToAU, including a variety of content that drops great gear, gear that can be purchased with incremental progress, and massive server wide boss fights called Wildskeeper Rieves.

For anyone who never played XI but likes XIV, you can give XI a shot. The graphics are obviously nothing like XIV, but the menu based gameplay feels like class FF and it scratches a different itch than XIV does.

I gotta ask, how is this game still 26$ on sale? I realize the content is massive at this point, but to anyone with an account already, that means you have to resub, so you're looking at 35$+ just to try this?

I do want to try it again sometime, but I feel 10$-15$ would be more than reasonable. The Abyssea collection would often go on sale for 9.99$, and that included everything prior to it with CoP, RotZ, etc.

edit: Actually, found some old links on google where it would drop to 4.99$ for the Ultimate Abyssea...

It's because Adoulin content is still being released. Once they finish out Adoulin, the collection will probably drop a lot lower in price (like Abyssea did once it was done.)

Anyone else playing XI until 2.4 drops? I bought a new account a few weeks ago and put in quite a few hours. The game still holds up nicely and there's a lot in terms of quality and detail that XIV needs to pick up from it. This game is such a damn nostalgia bomb.

I'm honestly considering it. It might be something I should ask the XI forum, but how hard would it be to penetrate the game with a new character these days?

I sold my character years ago because I just felt like after playing for so long that I'd be done with it, but it could be something fun to do over the lazy summer days. I haven't touched the game since before Abyssea.

Catwho, you mentioning in the other thread that Thief has a native Dual Wield trait now was enough to get me curious honestly, lol. And I'm sure that's the least of the changes/additions.

One thing I want to know is how necessary it would be to complete Zilart, CoP, etc. and older content. I wouldn't really have any interest in redoing it

With Trusts (NPC party members, you can have 3 summoned at a time) you can solo almost everything in the game barring end game content.

There are a lot of QoL changes. Waypoints work like Aetherytes now. You can port from a WP to any other WP in the world for 500-1000 gil. Map vendors sell most maps now. EXP is a lot faster now with Records of Eminence and zone book quests. A lot has changed.

I've been thinking about reinstalling this lately. But I know I don't have time to play so I'd just be wasting a subscription cost. Maybe in the fall it might be worth it. Do they delete characters? I've been unsubbed for 2-3 years. Is my character likely gone and I'll need to start over?

While I have crazy amounts of nostalgia for FFXI, and still consider it the most fun I've ever had in an MMO, I cringe a little every time I think about actually trying to play it again. After so many years of more modern MMOs I'm not sure I could go back. Especially since my character is still sitting at 75 and I'd have to go back and level sub jobs first before I could even really start playing again. Combine that with the fact that I don't know anyone who still plays, and my old server doesn't even exist any more, and my incentive to start playing again is pretty much nil.

Amazon also has the digital download on sale for $10.49 (along with some other Final Fantasy titles), though I don't know for how long. It's not a Steam code, but I thought I should mention this sale in this thread anyway.

http://www.amazon.com/FANTASY-Ultimate-Collection-Seekers-Download/dp/B00AWEMODK/ref=lp_7266959011_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1403653207&sr=1-3

And yes, it is the Ultimate Collection.

I haven't played FF11 since last year. Did I miss out on collecting Trust NPCs, or are there ways to collect them still?

They're actually about to have a "summer of alter egos" event so you can catch the ones you missed before.

Do you have a link so I can read up more on how to catch the ones I missed? Mostly looking for information about how to acquire the characters that were only available for Repeat Login Campaigns and such.

I found information for the standard NPCs, but I'm having trouble finding info about the others.

You'll find the info on playonline.com as well as all of the rest of the news. This game has been getting monthly updates since the beginning of the year so you can read up on all the changes there.

If XIV collapses before 2.3 Catwho, we know who to blame Smiley: lol

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.
