New Frontlines Information in Live LetterFollow

#1 Jun 12 2014 at 11:33 AM Rating: Excellent
Frontlines is the opening subject, happening here.

Highlights so far:
- Format is 24 vs. 24 vs. 24
- Battles to take less than 30 mins
- Similar rewards to Wolves' Den, but with mounts and soldiery added
- Players can change jobs at outposts

Sounds interesting! I like the idea of a large-scale battle that doesn't take a ton of time. I also like that players will be able to change jobs, which should add a bit of complexity.

Yessir.

Doubt this will be the case, but if they were smart, they'd allow you to do this while queue'd up for other dungeons.

Seems like the devs are pretty committed to making PvP a major feature of this game.

I've never been a fan of arena PvP, especially when the prevailing strategy is just having black mages cast sleep while everyone else spams stun.

I may give Frontlines a serious try, though. Being part of a larger group over a much larger battlefield would seem to alter the dynamics of battle enough so it's not so one-dimensional... especially if players can change jobs once they're inside.

I hope they have more than 1 map. It would be cool if it was sorta like AV with 3 teams instead of 2, but I don't want the same scenery and objectives for every match. I've said it before, if Yoshi is going to do PvP, he had better do it right this time. Wolve's Den is terrible. Nevertheless I'm really looking forward to this until I'm given a reason not too. I absolutely love crushing other players and taking a break from scripted fights.

72 people? It can take 20 minutes just to get the 8 people for a normal match. Are they just praying that Frontlines will be so popular that everyone will be doing them all the time? I don't see any mention of fixing the insanely broken PVP system so I can't imagine that many people will be playing at once after the first few days.

Relax, 72 people is only the max capacity. They've already stated that the Duty Finder flexes depending on those in queue. It can go as 8 x 8 x 8 or 16 x 16 x 16. It does this adjustment automatically so there's little strain on the player to hop in and enjoy the content.

Quote:
Q4: Are there any role restrictions for Frontline?

A4: There are no role restrictions, and it will be possible to change your class or job at outposts.

I additionally liked this, even if it's minimal... might fry some PC's lol

Quote:
Q28: Will NPCs or monsters participate in Frontline?

A28: In addition to players, monsters will also be present in Frontline, and they will affect the battle but only slightly.

And the final bit of good info

Quote:
Q49: When is patch 2.3 going to be released?

A49: We're currently planning for Tuesday, July 8, 2014.

Hopefully things are more dynamic than the inevitable zerg vs. zerg vs. zerg that plagued GW2 and Rift in Conquest.

I'm sorry but i find some of their information contradicting. They say that the rewards are similar to those of wolves den, which means pvp exp and pvp marks, HOWEVER, they also said that MORALE will not play a role in frontline. So...............you will give us pvp rewards, but you just turned our pvp gear into vanity gear??????? And here I had been working on getting my PVP rank up to get some gear in preparation for frontline groups. Calling frontline a pvp event is odd if your not going use the pvp stat morale.

You can still use the PvP gear in Wolves' Den where Morale will still count.

But Frontlines is supposed to be easy for those new to PvP to get into, and not a gankfest where those who were playing PvP before get to faceroll every noob they meet because only they have the 1337 gearz. It's going to be a fair fight where everyone's item level is set the same so it's all about skill and not the equipment. If you want it to be about equipment, that's what Wolves' Den is for.

If we are able to use our PVP skills and abilities, then those new to PVP will still pretty much get 'faceroll'ed or 'gank'ed. Not saying that it won't be more fair, but i'm rank 17 and if i fight my rank 1 GF in PVP, gear will make no difference as i will still have all the enhancements on my PVP skills due to my rank. Granted equipment does help but if that is the case, why not sync our PVP gear, not remove the very stat that makes it PVP gear to begin with. Not picking a fight but, if PVP gear is only for the small-scale PVP battles and not the large scale PVP battles, then to me that seems kinda stupid. I'm just upset that i put time into getting my PVP gear to PVP in, and now that SE is bringing something new to PVP were more people will join in on,i don't get to enjoy the equipment i've worked hard for.

EDIT: also, you said that PVP in wolves den is mostly about gear, well, that's not true. PVP gear only plays a roll in the lvl 50 matches. before that, your PVP gear is pretty much the same as PVE. Perhaps if they used the same lvl selection as wolves den then that would be ok, where lvl 30 and 40 matches are for those new to PVP and where the PVP gear makes no difference, but the lvl 50 allows those of us who have PVP gear to really cut loose. If they did that for frontline i would be ok with that.

It defiantly has my attention and interest. Kinda wanting to give this a shot. I love high-mobility classes and using them in a PvP setting really will be interesting to me.

I'm honestly surprised about 24v24v24. I don't recall hearing Yoshi-P speak about having 72 players in the arena simultaneously. I was always under the impression that the maximum size would be 24 people (like in the CT).

This seems like a fun way to get one's hands on the new ilvl90 pvp sets :D

I think the game could use a little more competition between city-states and grand companies. A system like conquest.

Also... If makes me miss Hamlet from 1.2. It was enjoyable to play with DoH and DoL in the party.

Problem is, split by GC it's not something a FC can group up for and do together. Not unless everyone is in the same GC.

Aren't FC's allied to a specific GC though? Even though individuals are not, the FC is. There can be something done with that too.
