Time for me to put on the "I was right!" smiley here.

Smiley: schooled

Seriously though that's what was practically screamed at us from the cutscenes just prior to Leviathan. I never expected anything else after hearing that Thancred was only a fake!bard and was really a scoundrel naughty kid "rogue", and seeing how Yugiri used dual wield daggers.

Apparently Ninja is all about combinations of abilities together.. some positional gameplay, but not like monk-level positional gameplay.

It looks like Rogue is the class and Ninja the job. Nothing gun-ular yet.

If that's the case, why show Rogue in what looks like Artifact Armor with a relic weapon along with Ninja? I'm wondering if they'll be jobs off the same base class with how both have armor/weapons?

Good question. My initial guess was Rogue --> NIN and/or THF. But if the Rogue is in AF, then maybe they are keeping THF as a separate job a secret until later? Smiley: eek

Maybe! My initial thought was that the Rogue wasn't in AF at all but just new high-level rogue-y gear. But it's certainly possible that they mean this to be a completely different job, or that they mean both jobs to grow from the same class.

I'm lost in translation here.

Are there two new jobs (Rogue and Ninja)?

Or is Rogue just going to be the lame starter class that never gets used again once you unlock Ninja?

Because I really wanted to be a classic Final Fantasy Thief, but Ninja - not so much.

I don't get why they didn't clarify this. (Is Ninja just a Rogue with a few bonus job skills? Are they separate?)

I turned off the stream so hopefully you guys can sum it up later. These guys really don't know how to do a live stream. Very boring.

Never mind. Seems like Rogue is indeed the starter class with the job being Ninja.

Thieves getting #BTFO. Sigh, thanks Yoshi.

I know the feels... soon as i saw rogue i yelled so loud my annoyed my roommate 2 rooms down and then i saw the ninja and was like fml really......

They said they had no plans to add a thief type class.
To go on to say thief's had becomes rogues so that kind of makes it sounds like no thief's ever...

Thief being such a class job really makes me hope they just dont do away with it.

Bard and thief we're my mains in 11 with bard basically not being anything like 11 and thief's being so long off or never happening im honestly not sure if i can keep playing FF14.
I just don't have a love for any of the jobs like i did those 2

The announcement is hardly surprising (if you read all those cut scenes and lore from the main quest!). I still want my Dancer to come with the dual-wield class ;P

I am a bit more surprised how tactful Yoshida talked about in-game marriage thing. As a business (gaming or not), senior staff members and executives have to thread carefully in touching socially sensitive issues. The problem is not personal beliefs in the issues involve, but senior managerial staff and executives have to do things to prevent drawing fire from the public, shareholders and opportunistic activists and politicians that may affect the reputation of the business or getting sued. Anyway, I think Yoshida answered that the marriage question reasonably, and he is clearly aware of the implications how he may be interpreted.

In this video it definitely looks like THF AF, I'll secretly hope THF is a Job until I get my heart shattered. http://kotaku.com/final-fantasy-xiv-soon-to-be-plagued-by-rogues-and-ninj-1588916235

Yoshi said that Thieves morphed into Rogues over time. Maybe in the future THF will indeed become a job. I also knew the class would be Rogue or Bandit. Just like all the other jobs are lost "arts" and "fighting styles" of the past a THF job would fit perfectly to lore. No matter I'm happy to have my dual wielding class THF type class and Ninja looks hawt!!!!

Yoshi already Said thief are called Rogues (so no thief for us ever) because Thief sounds too petty to be part of a the (good natured) Grand Comapny... in otherwrds anything that sounds like a badguy will never exist in this game because Gran Companies are for good lol guess that means no Assassins, shoplifters, bank robber, dark Knights etc etc

I honestly don't understand why it matters what exactly we call it.

Thief, Rogue, same thing. Well, okay... if someone spells Thief wrong, then it is just I before E rule. If someone spells Rogue wrong, then you get to make fun of them for wanting to play with lipstick.

Otherwise, I really don't see why it matters that much what we call it, Thief or Rogue. They're still an agile fast dual-wielding class that would probably have some sort of steal ability and other similar things.

Does it really matter that much? I'm excited just to see a dual-wield class at all. Always felt that was missing from the game, along with daggers, shortswords, and the like.

Oh wait. There are daggers. But they are tank weapons, lol.

Nobody cares whether it's called Rogue or Thief, the thing is that Rogue is a CLASS... the job we'll playing is ninja.

Not everyone is into the whole ninjutsu ninja thing. I wanted thief...

Don't get/equip the Soul Gem?

Last I checked, I can take my Lv41 Paladin and take off his soul gem and be a Lv41 Gladiator if I didn't want the PLD-related stuff.

Might not be optimal, per se, but at least you'd have a greater range of cross-class abilities you can equip, right?

SCH and SMN both branch from ACN. There's no saying THF and NIN won't both branch from ROG (sp?).

This is true as well. I could see where they'd make the Ninja different from the Thief (or they could call it something else if they don't wanna call it that).

I don't wanna have this discussion... you know you can't play this game competitively without your job equipped (inb4 one or two VERY VERY specific situations)
