No chat activity in-game? Follow

I have returned after a very long break from the game (6+ months) and it seems eerily quiet. The only shouts are gold spammers. Literally for the last 2 hours nothing in the starting city. Now, I get the starting cities should be less populated but nothing??? Its disapointing as I want to get back into the game but it just seems empty. Is it just me? Adamantoise server btw

Mor Dhona is really the hub, with Limsa probably being a close second. Depends where you are. But why does there always need to be chatter? 99% of the time I shout a question in most areas, I get a couple of responses.

MMORPG.
Lots of Players talking means it's lively, NPCs on a scripted route and doing scripted Emotes doesn't always equate to an MMO being lively :p It just feels dead even when you have tons of craft bots and people standing around when no one is chatting.

The game isn't new anymore, and people have their linkshells and FCs. There's really no need to shout out to strangers.

Although, shouts do still happen... was in Cortheas yesterday to do a leve for my animus quest, and someone shouted about needing help with the Four Winds FATE, so I hopped on my choco and rode out there. A handful of other players did the same, and we took down the FATE with about a minute on the clock... at which point we all thanked each other and went about on our ways.

So, yeah, there is some productivity in shouting, but your best bet is to find a good linkshell... then, getting to know people in linkshells will help you find a good (and fitting) Free Company.

If you do need to shout though, just go to Revenant's Toll or any city's market districts. You'll always find lots of people during primetime hours. They're just not talking in /shout like they were at launch.... which I'm VERY happy about. Personally, I miss the old days of XI, when talking in /shout was considered rude.

Weekends usually have a lot of chatter in various areas on Gilgamesh. During weekdays especially in the afternoon is dead though.

It's not especially hard to strike up a conversation either.

That's just the way it is in FFXIV for whatever reason. Tons of chatter in FC/LS/Parties but general chat is usually dead. It's got nothing to do with player population, obviously.

FFXI is super old, everyone in in an LS yet i bet you still see a million shouts every 5mins in every major city/area. I bet if FFXIV removed duty finder youd see a million shouts every 5 mins in FFXIV too

Try starting a conversation. I've seen a few shout chats on my travels. People will talk when given the opportunity and there's something to talk about.

Well, exactly, it's the only reason you see shouts in XI...the same 2 people spamming for one event. I think this person means just general chatter with conversations going on.
